  1. Thank you Georgii for mentioning the BBC trying to be even handed. Their approach to Brexit lifted the veil on their distorted narrative. This war has exposed their near support for Russia. They literally said the Kahovka Dam “collapsed”. It’s an incredible level of deceit.

  7. Ukraine has considerable oil and gas reserves under the eastern oblasts and Sea of Azov. Putin invaded to lock out any competition to Gasprom (he owns it). He blocks any Caspian pipelines to Kazakhstan for same reason.

  8. Prior to the invasion of Ukraine, Russia had certainly bought off many local officials. They failed around Kyiv and got hammered. But they succeeded across the whole south coast. Geography stopped them getting to Odessa. Hopefully those who thought Russia would be good for Ukraine have been fully “converted” away from that idea. Hopefully the upcoming counter attacks will get all necessary help from Ukraine locals.

  13. The Ukraine borders to 1919 went over to River Don and around the Black Sea to Turkey. The language was spoken as far as Caspian Sea. However the Soviets replaced the indigenous people with Muscovite Russians. Ukraine today has no need to extend the war to take these areas because it’s highly likely they will eventually choose to join the successful state on their border. A bit like a post Soviet reunification.

Those in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia who let the Russians through unopposed are an even smaller number. But all of them had wormed themselves into influential positions. Regarding Brexit. There is no way that UK would have led support for Ukraine if Brexit had not happened. UK under Boris Johnson literally embarrassed the EU and especially Germany into making real things happen. Without that, the appeasement beloved of Macon and Merkel would have been centre stage.

On the other hand Ukraine was implied as being less careful with the facts. That has changed but it took a surprisingly long time.

If 15,000 people turned up to pay respects that’s -/1000 (one tenth of one percent). 15,000 is a lot of people but 0.001 of the local population is statistically insignificant. Germany got the blame for “scorched earth” tactics but Stalin’s forces did 10x as much damage to ordinary Russians. Ukraine has got the same treatment and (to an extent) so have the towns invaded by Russian partisans.

  28.  @krasav USA has not won a war since 1945 is untrue. They won the Korean War bug for some reason pulled back to the NK border. USA also won Gulf War 1. After those two, their mistakes have been getting involved in unwinnable fights. Vietnam was always going to fail though the country is now a powerful ally to USA. Gulf War 2 was a knee jerk by a brain cell challenged president backed up by an equally dangerous British Prime Minister. Afghanistan was and always will be uncontrollable. It’s a horrible mess with no reason to exist as an actual country.

He absolutely laid into them for treating Russian propaganda with the same deference as anything coming from Ukraine. The programme host had no clue how to handle him. He was not rude but he absolutely did not mince his words. Sadly I have not seen any significant change from BBC. I am disgusted by their refusal to report anything but bad news for Ukraine.

  44. The 1973 book and TV documentary series “The World at War” by Mark Arnold-Forster largely ignored the brutal reality of the Russian state. Their pre destruction of cities and extreme war crimes against the people were blamed on Germans. The reality Russian’s extreme inhumanity to their own people were ignored. The book also fails to show the importance of the US and British lend lease efforts. Germans were bad guys everyone else were good guys. George Patton commented that we are fighting the wrong enemy was not as nuts as the media and history made it sound. Ukraine proves he was right even if Germany was not a good guy in all this.
