My 2007 Fiat is spot welded (of course) but the urethane adhesive sealant is as good as ever.

A right hand drive windscreen will make it easier to fit the one size brake booster.

How hard can it be? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mini_Electric. Range 110 miles from a 32KwH battery. It’s pretty rubbish but shows that small cars don’t have the space for 200 miles worth of batteries.

Come to Devon England. Pot holes everywhere, rough repairs, pointless speed bumps, and narrow lanes that are little more than farm tracks.
2
The British “Naro” car (around 2005) was a tandem two seater that lean steered. The idea was that two narrow track cars take 1/2 the road space on one standard car. They said the switch from normal steering to counter-steering (that all bikes do) was really tough to computer code. They also had to use handlebars because lean steering (like a bike) with a steering wheel is totally confusing to drive.

Fiat have always been good at evolving existing designs. The DNA of the 1980s Uno is still there in today’s Panda and even the 500. Tesla is doing the same at a faster rate.
2
The robot Sandy saw folding T shirts was being directly controlled by a human. The hardware has to be up to these tasks before the software can be created. Tesla is still working on robot hardware but software will arrive in good time.

Renault IS NOT banned in USA. They simply don’t sell to that market because they don’t need to.
2
Reginald Mitchell the Supermarine Spitfire designer said that competent engineers should be able to explain how things work and what they do in simple terms. He refused to employ anyone who could not do this.
2
Aluminium vs steel and carbon are two rest recipes for galvanic corrosion. They will regret not using carbon or glass composites for the entire battery case.
2
Is there any way a material like Nomex could be used to provide thermal insulation (less energy in cold weather) that also acts as a fire blanket?
2
In addition to genuine innovation (think MultiAir), Fiat were always extremely good at modular design and continuing use of older parts designs. Basically if it's not broke... It's worked amazingly well at least since the original Uno of the early 1980s. But it's a massive deadweight for electric cars.
2
Citroen BX from the 1980s had polymer rear hatch and trunk lid along with one piece polymer bumpers. The latter were self coloured so no paint costs.

Sandy is a superstar in his own right. Elon knows the questions will be intelligent, incisive and relevant.
2
My RHD Fiat Panda has the same column and pedals as LHD. A big lever take brake pedal force to the booster pack. Clutch is hydraulic (works either way. Loud pedal is drive by wire. Heater is centrally mounted. However fuse boxes don’t move and heater speed control resistor us near impossible to reach. It would be so easy to put the resistor on a heat sink and to run the wires centrally. Then the fuse box could swap sides easy-as.
2
I was also offered by Alfa Romeo in the 1990s. The snag is any wear in suspension joints really messes it up.
2
When Boomers were kids there was TV and rotary dial telephones. That was it. Who invented the internet? We did. Who invented the desk top computer? We did. Who invented the smart phone? We did. Who made driving affordable ? We did. Who made flying away for holidays affordable? We did. The list goes on

VW in Europe seems to have some idea with EVs. Renault has one or two but nothing spectacular. The ready of them don’t have a clue. Biden s tax refund will benefit all EV makers. But as none of them are cheap few people can afford them. Those that can will pay the extra to get a Tesla. Legacy Auto is going broke.
2
The legacy industry could add a great deal to its vehicles by using electric transmission. It’s been used by railway locomotives for at least 60 years so proven technology. You add a generator and traction motors. You get rid of clutch, gearbox, differential and associated controls. Add some batteries and your engine only needs to meet steady state power demand. Acceleration and braking is supplied and absorbed by the battery. Engine runs at peak efficiency with easy to control emissions.

Sooner or later Elon will hit NHTSA with a legal writ for defamation. He probably thinks they are not yet doing enough damage but when that happens it’s too late. Elon please get your layers on the case. You have the evidence.

Interesting point. 20 years ago I looked inside a crash damaged Audi A4. The design was state of the art in its day that filtered down to todays Golf etc. I was stunned by the amount of bolts holding the Bulkhead/A post/dashboard together. It was solid enough but a huge weight in fasteners alone. Not to mention the factory labour to install everything. My “cheap” little Fiat is 10 years old has a tubular steel fabrication behind the bulkhead which seriously stiffens the A post area. The bare structure hidden by a plastic dash cover retained by relatively few screws.
2
Some self extinguishing additives can be very effective. U.K. building codes require roof tile battens to be fire retardant. Put some sticks into a burning wood stove and the fire will die.
2
The Piaggio MP3 has two narrow track front wheels. It lean steers like a bike but brakes like a quad and has more stability than either. Norman Hossack invented a simple system that uses a rocking lever to lean the machine. The centre pivot is spring suspended so you get independent leaning and suspension.
2
That front brake has a radial mount caliper as have been used on high performance bikes for years.
2
Sandy call out poor deign and implementation for what it is. If that’s rude then perhaps it’s what’s need to get the providers to improve their product. I have never seen him aggressive or rude to people. He’s direct but he’s not disrespectful.
2
Kaizen is more about the systems of manufacturing. The hard designs are set by car model release. Changes happen in bulk at the next face lift.
2
The MG Midget had the instrument (dash) panel integral with the scuttle/bulkhead and A posts. It helped keep things stiff. If the dash metal was cut away to fit a “classic” wood panel, the car would develop a nasty scuttle shake.

@StephenMattison66 Please see https://classicsworld.co.uk/guides/how-it-works-citroens-fluid-suspension/ Citroen had a hydraulic pump no bigger than a power steering pump. That feeds a hydraulic accumulator - a simple spring loaded cylinder than maintains pressure in the system. Small pipes go to suspension steering and brakes. The brake pedal is a simple valve. Road springs are nitrogen pressurised spheres which can be pumped up when necessary. Ride height is controlled by the hydraulic legs. Body roll is controlled by spheres acting across the body to keep the car level. Steering is either a fairly typical power rack. The Citroen DIRAVI was fully powered, speed sensitive and automatically self-centrered the steering. Weight of brakes is reduced because high pressure calipers can be made smaller. Less weight at the road wheel gives a big gain for ride quality.

I think he’s asking who is the manufacturer of the foam.

The Left have built up the climate change narrative not to save the plant. They don’t give two Fs about that. The whole point is to control the plebs with high energy costs and “Greenwash” policies. They need the constant jeopardy to keep themselves in business. The likes of Tesla with technology to solve the problem must be stopped lest the true scam is exposed. Low cost nuclear power from Elysium (USA) or Moltex (U.K.) have reactors that literally use up the ultra long life nuke waste that we can’t store. It’s low cost but also low waste and zero CO2. They would instantly solve the CO2 and the waste problems so they have to be stopped with inappropriate regulatory rules they can never meet.

I hope Tesla is soon able to use mega castings for scuttle, door frames (A, B, C posts) and of course the chassis mounts we know from the Model Y.

I used to have a split screen van. But that was before they were cool and it fell apart with tin worm.
1
The Citroen hydro-pneumatic suspension was about as good as it gets. Springs were compressed gas spheres ride height and damping were provided by hydraulic struts. In later models body roll was semi active using the same self levelling methods as the fore-aft system. The same hydraulics powered the steering and brakes. High pressure brakes allowed smaller brakes - less unsprung weight and less cost. All Musk needs to do is use electric power to pump up the hydraulic circuits.

Fiat and Citroen disc brakes (also by Brembo) have always used lug bolts to retain the wheel and brake disc. A pair of special M8 pointed head bolts locate the wheel so you are not fumbling too much to align the lug bolt holes. Steel wheels have holes on the same PCD to align accurately. Alloys have cast in divots like these Tesla wheels.
1
@no_more_free_nicks I have a 2007 Fiat (which is great) but you can see where they failed to fully consider the needs of body shop, engine and electrics. The latter work really well but are clearly required to fit around the “important” stuff.
1
Electronics are the most durable part of any car. However any safety intervention such as emergency steering should be as reliable as emergency braking. There are so many edge cases of what’s already an edge case it’s hard to know how that could work.
1
European car design is controlled to a ridiculous level by the European Union. The result has been heavy ugly cars that all look the same and are so insulated that drivers have no concern for the risks they are taking.
1
My BMW R1200 bike I had an 800 gram (about 2 pounds) 4AH LFP starter battery that replaced a 14 AH AGM lead acid weighing 5kg (12 pounds). It worked just as well but never needed float charging as there is no degradation and minimal charge loss.

Why has the factory not shimmed those passenger side doors?
1
Why is the 4680 not made in LFP or better M3P chemistry?
1
Talking about the wipers, Citroen CX designed in 1970s was a saloon with shallow angle rear window. The glass had a concave curve which used the air stream to sweep water away. No wiper needed.
1
The Ethernet gigabit data system is so fast there is effectively no latency.
1
VW with its huge managerial overhead is the least capable of avoiding paradigm paralysis.
1
It panhandle used vehicle and you risk something big and expensive going belly up. A high spec engine of transmission costs £££$$$ plus another huge wedge to fit the new parts.

Sandy has to hold back of the establishment lackeys at YT will close him down. I hood he copies his videos to an alternative planform because sooner or later he will get the bullet.
1
I’m with Sandy. Any design that needs a special technique is stupid. It’s also daft that you have to keep going back to the app or the dash to re open it.

Apple MacOS is based on Linux. Apple iOS did not evolve directly Psion or Symbian but A LOT of their engineers went to work for Apple. Tesla OS is based on Linux. Apple lost the legal case against Google on intellectual property legal case for the Android user interface. But Apple is still way ahead in usability.

The story goes that some bloke got paid thousands to save match makers a load of money. He simply said to put sandpaper on one side only. Hopefully his service contract was legally watertight.

I’d expect a FSD board to need considerable power but why does it need so much energy at idle? Why can’t it sleep when not needed?
