  1. Soros is a subversive. He claims to support "Open Societies" but to him that means open for exploitation by people like him, and highly repressive of anyone who isn't a neoliberal/neocon globalist. He decries the jailing of political dissidents in Russia and China, but supports it in Britain and America (since they jail the sort of dissidents he wants jailed). He advocates against censorship in Hungary, while supporting it in France (ok because it's called "suppressing misinformation" rather than censorship).

  3. It doesn't have to be sustainable and they never said it would be. No one makes comments like this about "oh is Facebook's zero profits in the first X years of its operations sustainable?" because it's a ridiculous question, the intent is to bootstrap the product into widespread adoption and then make it sustainable. And something like 10-15% is sustainable with Anchor's model, which is pretty spectacular to retail savers.

Impressed that you guys didn't just imbibe the utterly naive (or disingenuous) take that the people in charge are acting out of the moral conviction they say they are rather than naked geopolitical power games. Most people in the West have no problem seeing through Russian pretexts (preventing genocide, or fighting Nazis) but can't see that the idea that Western leaders care about national self determination, or sovereignty, or larger countries bullying smaller ones, is ridiculous.

  8. Great point about stability and choosing between fiat and bitcoin. Once stability increases, which will almost certainly happen over time, it will make the choice of bitcoin over fiat for store of value incredibly easy.

  9. Don't agree with the whole "giving money to poor people to use on day to day expenses is good for the economy" view. People don't distinguish between GDP as genuine increase in efficient production and technological improvement versus "more burgers and porn and netflix". Money invested by rich people in high tech business does way more for that long run economic improvement.

  10.  @tatagata6268  Indeed, we get the entire Western media screeching with rage and running wall to wall coverage when a Russian airstrike kills three civilians, but near total silence from the same people over the hundreds of thousands Yemeni children who have died under the US and UK supported Saudi blockade of Yemen that has been going on for years. It's a great insight into the fact that most people have no consistent principles (i.e. "war is bad whoever does it" or "war is acceptable as a tool of foreign policy by any nation" would both be consistent lines to take). Instead it's simply "war is bad when I'm told it's bad by the media, and fine when it's not". The effctiveness of emotional manipulation is amazing, lots of people now HATE Russia and Russians purely because of the media. Even more ironically it's the same sort of people who love to say that they would have been against Japanese internment or McCarthyism or other moral panics.

It was "Israel assassinated senior Iranian military personnel and civilians in the Iranian consulate in Damascus in total violation of international treaty and law, then Iran retaliated by attacking Israeli military targets.

  37. I slightly disagree with the TCP IP comparison. TCP IP doesn't have monetary value, crypto does. Therefore it will never become "invisible" in the same way as internet protocols are. The whole point of the Web3 "user owned" internet is that people will become more aware of what they are using, because they have a monetary stake in it.

  42. You seem to be using the modern "progressive" definition of fairness, where it means equality of outcome. The definition used by every culture in the world for all of history up until the modern period, and still used by about half the population, is fairness as proportionality, not equality. Most people, without ideological brainwashing, see it as fair that those who contribute the most should get the greatest reward, and those who contribute the least should get the least, but that people should compete on as equal a playing field.

  47. I get Mike's point, but the objective capability to do something is different to the will and the public support to do it. The point at which Western governments threaten people's families to get them to hand over their keys is the moment they lose the moral legitimacy that their constant lecturing the rest of the world is based on. It's one thing being total hypocrites against the Russians, but being total hypocrites against your own population? Saying you support freedom and personal liberty and the "rule of law" while using the tactics of totalitarianism against them won't go well.

If you're pro freedom then VCs are allowed to exist, the point about Web3 is that it's better than Web2; retail investors can get in way ahead of where they could before, and the nature of Web3 itself means that even with ownership, it's harder to centralize control and create monopolies.
