  3. I did find the EU woman publicly announcing their genius plan to just "use 15% less gas until winter" somewhat hilarious. As Alexander says, whatever efficiencies the Europeans find so that they can refill the gas storage facilities, the Russians can just reduce the gas they supply by that amount.

If the evidence is all real then it seems difficult to come up with any other explanation for her behaviour, other than, "oh it's just a coincidence that a Ukrainian intelligence operative moved entered Russia, moved into the same building as Daria, went to the same places, then left the country immediately after she was killed in a car bomb."

  25. Interesting that Newsweek seems to have some sort of connection to The Pentagon. That article from earlier in the year calling out elements of the US establishment for trying to escalate the conflict and pointing out that Russia had acted with restraint was also published there.

  29. I could already see what you were going to say before you said it, that was masterfully laid out. They're now in the position that the Soviet Union was in the late 60s. The Chinese and the Russians have already chosen sides, now the USA are the ones faced with a two front war. Thinks could have turned out so differently if the West had embraced Russia instead of trying to subjugate it.

  31. Do you think this is a clever little comment? As he's explained multiple times before, the Russians did indeed think it was strategically important, and expended significant resources on taking it, thinking it would make a big difference to the ability of the Ukrainians to move men and materiel into the area, but once they took it, it really didn't. Now, knowing that, it isn't necessary to expend excessive resources to hold on to it.

  41. The point you made about there being relatively few Russian attackers seems to be shown by the video of Russian forces celebrating in Lysychansk, where it seems they could only gather a couple of dozen men for a photo in the middle of the town.

I've seen people questioning why the Russians have a relatively small force in Ukraine, but they don't understand that having 1,000,000 badly trained, badly equipped, badly supported, badly supplied and badly led men is a massive liability compared to 200,000 well trained, well equipped, well supplied well led soldiers. And that the 200,000 men will easily defeat the 1,000,000 in detail.

  45. The chips needed for cruise missiles are incredibly simple. Chips from the 1980s were good enough, and the cheapest $2 ARM chip now is hundred times faster than that. Getting the chips they need is literally nothing. There was even an outraged article a few months ago about the fact that AMERICAN chipmakers had exported more than $20 million of chips to Russia since the war began, because the chips are so basic that no one had even bothered to sanction them.

I've literally watched him say for the last couple of weeks that Liman was being effectively defended, but by relatively small numbers of forces (against, actually, relatively small numbers of attackers) and that Russia could possibly decide to withdraw if it came under too heavy attack, since it isn't as strategically important as the Russians had thought when they first took it.

  49. If I were the Russians now I'd reposition these forces to taking the rest of Donetsk, then heavily fortify Donetsk and Lugansk and the South. From then on just aim to focus on one single objective at a time. (probably best to focus all further efforts on taking the rest of the Ukrainian coast.)
