  1. Regarding pronouncing Russian names and places - Just subtitle those. Preferably both in Cyrilic and Latin transliteration. Go for your Stalingrad video, don't worry. Russian is not easy for English speakers. You won't get significantly better quickly. Just go for the vid! BTW - Are you going to learn Japanese before you cover anything from there? ;-) Anyway, since it was mentioned in this vid, in Prokhorovka the "k" is silent. It's there only so the people in the West won't be tempted to make the "h" silent, which it is not. Then, only the first "o" is pronounced as "o", the second and third is closer to a short "ah" sound. More like PrO-ha-rafka than Prok-ho-rovka. That's how it is. Not my fault. ;-)

  2. +TIK - "over 250,000 words of research [on Stalingrad] at the moment, and climbing" - So that's how you make world class documentaries? You mean, hard work and all? Damn... I hoped that skimming through a Wikipedia page and acting all knowledgeable was the ticket. Apparently, I'm not cut out to do this job. ;-)
