  1. Evolution does not work on the level of individuals, it works on the level of genes. The parents altruistically take care of their children, because they carry their genes, so they sacrifice their own individual interests in order to promote the interests of their genes. We know that's how altruism works in nature since we figured out altruism in social insects. Any analysis of altruism and individualism which omits this crucial part is pretty much useless. It's like trying to explain orbital dynamics without taking gravity into account.
