If they tried and somehow failed (which I doubt would happen), then you could at least argue that was the case. They didn't even try. Unlike the Soviets, who somehow managed to feed German POWs in a starving country. "Paratroopers shoot German PoWs" That's self defense. Harsh reality of war. In case the Germans were no threat to the paras, it's obviously a war crime. Simples.

@ArtjomKoslow "feed. Simply impossible to do." Nonsense. They had all of Europe under their absolute rule. Food requisition, rationing, all of that. They could do whatever they wanted. Unfortunately, they wanted those people to die. "1 Piece of Bread for 100 PoWs at Best." It's really helpful, when an interlocutor writes such obviously idiotic statement. No need to discuss the issue any more, is there? Anyway, for whoever happens to read this, the survival rate for German POWs in Soviet Union was slightly above that of the civilian population. It's not like Soviets took any special care of them. It's just that everybody was starving, but the POWs were younger and stronger than an average civilian, so they had higher chances of survival.
