But it's still right for slow moving EVs - under 20km/h you can't really hear them (not in wind or if you have any hearing problems). And 20 as a speed limit is really too low. Even for cars, not only bikes ;)

DB, when car-capitalism and NIMBYism come together!
1
@Zaydan Naufal I was more thinking of Mustachians.

I just found the perfect Street View place for this video. This is from Salt Lake City, a city with 2 airports. And still it has those emergency landing airstrip crosses like this one https://www.google.de/maps/@40.7780674,-111.9225703,140m/data=!3m1!1e3 (street view direct link is too long, so click once more) Look around! At one corner 2 small houses, Take them together and the street is still wider than those houses combined! Does anyone think the people living there could finance the street? Also funny how each house has 1 regulation tree.

Well, they are called train CARS for a reason.
1
The almighty algo placed something on the side called "Tokyp 3D". Didn't know such a thing existed, google it!
1
@unifaeggi They are rich because they have good transit. And lots of hidden money from outside (tax) criminals.
1
Now that I have seen the inside perspective of one of those monsters, I get the very terryfing feeling that I should be happy traffic death are "only" up 25% in the US.
1
Defiunitely good quality pictures. Reminds me of https://www.youtube.com/c/NIPPONWANDERINGTV which I sometimes watch. Maybe you could do a few similar videos?
1
Doesn't sound like a helmet would help here. A bazooka might, but only temporarily.
1
@jasonarthurs3885 Shinjuku Station has 10 times the number of people using it than the Katy Highway. With probably the same space usage for rails.
1
Put some big cardboard+aluminium foil spikes around your back wheel. It will make cars do a bigger round around you, just from psycology, even if they know it's fake. Except those that see it as an attack on their manliness and intentionally give you hard love, I guess.
1
And now imagine how many hours of work you ahve to put into them to keep it looking like that.
1
My browser crashed when you said "these benefits arent available to you if your city is built wrong". I tell you, programs today are all snooping on what you do!
1
My first thought was "They should have tram lines everywhere, maybe a dozen, running every 5 minutes and only 20% of families own a car. Yeah... One problem is definitely the sprawl, but you could make that negative into a positive, by giving 1/3 of the trams to bike riders. Take your bike for those last 600m! Add a few good bike paths, and you could get around on the whole island and never pay for those expensive metal boxes.

Cancel Culture sigh
1
@NotJustBikes How can a train be late more than 24 hours??? That would never happen in Germany. Here the DB would just cancel the train and it would not appear in the "late" category, and also not driving up the average late time!
1
Do you have nets? I have seen nets used in Japan to prevent animals from getting in, but it looked like quite a hassle to use them.
1
@NotJustBikes Like in "We can't any longer build schools for blacks or whites, so let's create gated communities"?
1
@sirBrouwer You have never seen a Highway at Rush Hour I guess? ;)
1
Sounds like a capitalist is leading the garbage.
1
I guess it's still the result of leaded gas.
1
And it's extremely effective traffic separation, too. But it still blocks the movement.
1
The logical decision would of course be, as a town, you are removing car lanes whereever you can. And after that you look what use the space could be e.g. a bike lane. That way no car lane would be impacted by a bike lane.
1
The most amazing thing is that Switzerland does that train service for... I think 126€ it was per head. Or about what a family pays for car insurance. (Germany was at 42€ per head at the time of the documentary) Now imagine hallf of the US people could get rid of their car and put all that money into trains. You could have Switzerland level public transport without any fares!
1
@lws7394 Doy ou have the source on that? My numbers are from a (several years old) TV documentation. And to not make misunderstandings: It was probably the subsidies, not the total costs, though they didn't say that (I deducted that by the low numbers).
1
One of the most impressive facts about the Japan public transit I ever heard is that Shinjuku has roughly (nobody seems to really know O.o) as many people using it as the whole German train system.
1
I just "watched" this for the 5th time for a bit of background action to better concentrate, and even this time I had to lol at the " prefer my road to have rails"
1
Der Höhepunkt der Jugendsprache ist für mich "Hausfrauenpanzer". Hab ich alter Knacker sofort übernommen.
1
No, it's illegal but it will not get you fined. The same goes for "letting the engine run without reason" btw. (And I am not even counting those who let their climate run for 5 minutes with the car standing and engine running to cool down the car when it was in the summer sun, instead of just driving with windows down for the first five minutes.)
1
You are the first person that described Venice as "peaceful" in the last decades. The city is (before Covid) totally overcrowded, especially if an abomination called criuse ship is there, towering over every single house.
1
@mdhazeldine I was there just a few years later. Maybe you were outside the touristy times? I guess in winter it's not that bad. But in summer holiday time you barely have time to look at any building because you have to watch out for the people to not bump into them - at least on the main "roads." It certainly was the most crowded city place I ever was in besides a Christmas market.
1
The only effective way is to nuke the place and wait until the radiation is gone. Or, alteratevly, wait for a really BIG Tornado or similar.
1
Because they lived in car infeted town too long and got half-deaf, yes. But the main problem here is having a mix of foot and wheel traffic.
1
Maybe use some passive aggressive move here? Print some cards and put them on the cars and bins. "Good news! Nobody was hurt by you blocking the bike lane, so there is no big court invoice coming to you this time!"
1
420.000 is too small for a Tram? The closest town to me (Halberstadt) with tram lines is under 40.000 people. Yes 40K, not 400K! (I just looked it up, horse tram since 1887). 2 lines (feels more) of tram and uhm... 13 bus lines? (including to villages around) So you can still say 40 and I am quite sure more. My birth town is 30K and had a line once but that ended with WWII I think.

"a progressive conservative government" Warning: Critical error: Sentence could not be parsed.

One of the most interesting articles I ever read (actually two) is a comparison between US adn Japanese zoning, here: https://urbankchoze.blogspot.com/2014/04/japanese-zoning.html

@Yelonek1986 Nah, a few nailbands work quite well in protecting you. Roll them out, cross, roll in.
