  10. It was a disgrace that they were ever prosecuted. Malicious prosecution if ever I saw one. Parents cannot be held responsible for the actions of their adult children. They sent £234, which is hardly "funding terrorism", the rest they tried to send was approved by the home office and was still barely enough to buy a couple of cut price rockets.

Jeez, manhood academy taking then on safaris, half the people making excuses and saying that it's not even their fault that they carry knives, that strident woman at the front adding nothing but noise. How can ANYONE possibly argue that this is not an issue that starts at the youngest age in their communities? I don't know what the solution is, but it has to start with education. Maybe empowerment is part of it. Maybe spending is part of it but it's massively naive to simply demand a billion pounds back. Maybe the rest of the nation wants that money spent on services that THEY can benefit from? But the solutions start with decent homes, good parenting, two parent families. This is a truism anywhere in the western world that there is crime. Teach these youngsters to take responsibility, rather than seeing themselves as victims.

  20.  @vanquishable7844  Law must have changed then, because when my partner was a director at one of England's larger property developers 10 years ago, every single person she fired, she had to make out a case report explaining why their job was no longer available OR they were not suitable for it in case they were sued for wrongful dismissal. Still, I'm sure with your extensive training in employment law, you know better right?

How about if I say "It's time for women to hold each other accountable for the majority of child murders that they commit?" You'd rightly be outraged. The LAW opposes rape and murder. Men in prison treat rapists and murders incredibly harshly. There's no place in society where a rapist or murderer would not be a pariah. Children of both sexes are taught that violence is wrong from the earliest age both at school and home. What more do you think "men" should be doing? As for the law being consistent in locking violent men away, that's a complicated subject. I don't entirely disagree, but that's not entirely the law, that's social workers who turn up at court with sob stories. Ironically, due to an excess of compassion - a trait which, I would point out, tends to be associated with WOMEN not men. Face it, women have NEVER and will NEVER be 100% safe alone. Just like you can never be 100% certain that you will not be attacked by a dog while you are out. But it's incredibly rare. Looking at the 1 in a million exception and using that to make broad declarations about society in general is unreasonable. Each of us needs to take sensible steps to ensure our own safety. This woman's horrible murder is a tragedy. I just don't know what else can reasonably be done. If this was YOUR town, would you be willing to sacrifice other services services to place monitored cameras along every inch of footpaths? If it was your son at school, would you be satisfied with him being assigned collective responsibility for all attacks, or taught as a teenager that he is a potential rapist?

  31. Barbara, if this had not been immigrants it would have been single mothers, young British families, or someone else. If as has been suggested, many of these were ILLEGAL immigrants, ending immigration programs would not have stopped them in the first place. That said, I wholeheartedly agree that Britain needs to cease mass immigration when our social services are groaning under the weight of British scroungers. Be nice to sort them out too.

Yes, the climate warmed (not nearly as fast), and yes extreme weather events happened (but not nearly as frequently), but the impact of man on the climate is measurable, predictable, and undeniable, as are the results. Extreme weather is one of them. Your example is like a man sitting in his burning house and saying "my house always gets warmer in summer."

  47.  @realthings5821  I know you think you're being clever, but you're really not. UK scientists went against WHO advice, and Bozo went against the advice of British scientists. The second they started talking about herd immunity it was clear to any remotely intelligent person that it was as ludicrous as Sweden's plan not to lockdown at all. Similarly, when they told me I couldn't go out at all, or to the beach, or far away, or for long walks it was clear that these things were prohibitions designed (belatedly) to simplify the message, not because they decreased our odds of transmission. If I went for a walk of 200 miles but maintained distancing and touched nothing, there was zero risk to me. Now when they say it's okay for schools to reopen, I will NOT be returning to the school I work at part time and whilst the science on schools is constantly evolving and sometimes contradictory, I will NOT be guided by a man whose prime objective is to get the drones working and supporting the corporate machine once more.

Nobody can be FORCED to work in a restaurant or a packing plant. Ultimately ALL employers are looking to automate employees out of the equation so the workers owe them NOTHING in loyalty.

  49.  @YorickReturns  Your pay is relative to the value the employer places upon on it and what you are willing to accept. Migrants work for less so employers pay less. It's true that some labour is constrained by the value of your output, but perhaps that means that the output has been undervalued. For instance, if a tshirt is made by hand for 10 pence, and sold for 20, your labour cannot be charged for more than the time taken to make it. Sme industries, such as food service have a hard cap determined by the cost of the premises and tax and what people are willing to pay for food away from home. Others, such as manufacture, have been undermined by industries that competed each other into extincttion. It wasn't NECESSARY to sell 50 inch TVs for £400 or fridges for £150. These shareholder-answerable companies had to capture ever larger market share. Amazon classic example - makes no profit on selling yet destroyed the market for all their competitors.
