The part where they finally "found" Sauron because a random character decided to identify as him was pure gold.

Damn, this movie and Covenant made me think of how smart the leader in Sphere was when he told the crew he wasn't sure about the atmosphere so the masks needed to stay on. And ironically I think the air in the ship they were exploring was actually safe.

"Heat death of a franchise." Pure gold.

I guess the writers were just like "hakuna matata" and didn't worry...about making it good.
18
This is insane. How could any part of humanity conspire to make something like this happen!?
15
Not one moment of his videos feels repetitive or padded out. If only people in Hollywood would (and could) listen...

Watching these videos makes me both upset and helps me relax through catharsis. But ultimately, I think it's best to try to see the good instead of focusing only on the bad. There are still good modern movies, and I think there's at least some good everywhere you look in different aspects of life. Hopefully when this wave of wokeness subsides, there will be some small redeeming parts left over from it.
3
Maybe the biggest question isn't how Hollywood can destroy something; maybe it's what allowed it to make masterpieces in the first place?
2
I think it's pretty impressive and mesmerizing how many clips are used and how quickly they're edited together.
2
@anubusx I can see the similarities, and I liked both movies!
2
I wonder if they had really found God or Satan, would there have been anything else to explore after that?
2
I can't wait to see more people pull this apart after the current wave of wokeness ends. Well, this movie and everything else.
2
It's sad to watch these videos and realize just how much things have gone downhill. Before, I never really cared too much about the gender (or other characteristics) of the heroes or villains in movies. Two of my favorite protagonists all time were Ripley from Alien and Sarah Connor. Ultimately I don't think I care a lot about modern entertainment, so I'm not sure how much I get offended compared to other men, but I certainly don't appreciate things changing this way.
2
I could try to make some witty comment, but damn, this is just sad. Like The Drinker said, the original series was just so lighthearted and carefree, and the amount of hate makes this the complete opposite. At least we still have the original, real Scooby-Doo...
2
I can't help but think of all the wasted potential of the new Star Wards movies. I hope good storytelling comes back...
2
@elder-woodsilverstein7716 Yeah, you're right...

I know a lot of people, myself included, like to shit on Hollywood for being an abyss of depravity, in a strange way I feel like this movie gives some amount of redemption. I mean, actors and a director carrying on after nervous breakdowns, heart attacks and seizures while a real war was going on? I could understand soldiers having to do that, but a film crew!?
2
That's a shame. Borderlands as a movie could have been kind of fun.
1
Imagine 15 years ago thinking that superhero movies would get this consistently bland…
1
@anubusx I haven’t actually seen Covenant, though I bet I’d agree 👍
1
The sheer amount of irony makes me both impressed, and truly sad.
1
I kinda really feel like I need to see Nope now.

I remember thinking about how strange this movie was back when it came out. Like, it was hard to get a good read on it. I felt the tone was was off. But now with the realization that it was subtle satire, that makes so much sense!

So my wife and I liked this when we saw it in theaters, but in hindsight I can see the problems with it. However, I think a lot of our experiences are pretty subjective, and our appraisals of movies can come down to just how we're feeling in the moment. Overall I'd say watching this was still a positive experience for me, though of course nothing can compare with the original JP.

I was so damn surprised when I first started to hear this was good. But some part of me almost felt it was fitting, since I thought Shrek Forever After a great addition and the Shrek movies always seemed like they had a lot of heart to me. I kind of felt a similar way about the new Hocus Pocus movie. Like other recent Disney movies, I though Hocus Pocus would be crammed with a message to the detriment of everything else, but I was wrong. It seems that people genuinely cared about the first movie, and it was funny and endearing. Between this and the new Hocus Pocus, I've got a bit more faith in modern movie-making.

I'm so glad this isn't woke and instead just simple and innocent. Sounds like a good time.
1
I've felt some strong emotions watching the videos in the production hell playlist, and for this one I just feel disappointed.
1
I don't know, personally I thought Ruby was pretty funny. Either way, this movie was fantastic 👌
1
I remember coming across an article on Picard back when it came out and deciding adamantly not to watch it. But dang, I think I'll have to watch season 3. The only question is how much I want to investigate the first two seasons. I mean, I do want to understand the setup for the third season to some extent, but I don't want to experience pain.
1
It’s sad to think about just how much cinematic waste there is…
1
Damn, it's irritating seeing how just far Disney can take its new ideology and end up missing the mark.
1
31 may be prime number, but this movie is anything but prime…
1
I gotta stop watching these. It's depressing.
1
I have no doubt Hollywood is abusive, but it's still sad hearing about these more extreme examples.
1
I never played the Resident Evil games nor got into the franchise, though I did see most of the first Milla Jovovich movie. It seems like watching a "modern" adaptation would be the exact opposite of whatever my jam is.
1
Maybe he actually did just misspeak. You never know; maybe he had a grueling schedule and didn't get enough sleep the night before. I hope it was just something like that.
1
I honestly can't even remember if I watched this reboot or not. But I do remember watching the first Jolie movie, several times, and that one was great 👍
1
I'd really hesitate to trust what anyone in Hollywood says, but damn, if even a bit of this was true...damn...
1
Damn, I kinda don't like James Cameron after watching this.
1
I think it's nice how The Critical Drinker can just help me put my finger even more on why the new Star Wars movies were bad.
1
I wonder what it would look like if someone just leaned into the idea of multiple timelines and made a movie about everything kind of converging in a singularity of sorts. I'm thinking of the movie Primer.
1
I guess I'm in the apathy camp myself. I didn't even realize Discovery was still going on until I heard the news that it got cancelled. 😕
1
I know it only makes sense that an adaptation of a comic book about space Vikings would be really out there, but I feel things are just going down hill. And even without wokeness, how many MCU movies can you pump out before stories go stale? Whatever happens though, at least we have the good movies to watch again.
1
I now have to watch this just to see how f'ing crazy it gets, in all its glory!
1
Ah, She--Hulk. I've already heard so, so much about it...
1
I remember seeing the trailer for this show pretty frequently a while ago, and I was very intrigued. I never got around to watching it, but it's sad to know it's just one more wasted opportunity...
1
@SPYROSTSABOURIS I know I might enjoy it, but sadly I’ll never have the time to watch it for the foreseeable future.
1
Dang, if the rumors are true, I think I'll have to see this if for no other reason than to experience the absurdity first-hand. Going down this paranormal/fantasy route, I'm very vaguely reminded of the Metal Slug arcade games.
1
I think if things were toned down, simplified and made more understandable, this could have been a lot better. Maybe even great.
1
Guys, this is actually a good thing. It's more training data for AI to figure out what not to do, so that it can actually make good shows and movies in the future 👍
