I never heard about the lynching of Italians in New Orleans or elsewhere. That is awful but thanks for teaching me what really happened. Do Southern Italians consider themselves white now? I heard it depends which part of the country you are from.

I knew a woman who was more than half native blood but not enough to enroll in a specific tribe. She just missed having the 1/4 needed to enroll. She grew up on the reservation. Her mother was mostly native. Her father was Mexican. I felt bad that she was kept out of the tribe she grew up in.

I would argue that the Civil War was about economics and slavery. The two are intertwined. Slavery was making the South rich. You can't really separate the two issues. Edit: In case you don't understand history. The Confederacy fought AGAINST the USA. You can't logically support both.

@colinchampollion4420 You have to have enough blood from one certain tribe. If you have the same amount of blood from 8 different tribes you could be 100% Native and not belong to any tribe. The woman I knew had to be 1/4 to be a member. She barely missed that amount due to a long time back white ancestor. So she was denied membership. Even though she is more than half native.

Not all Cubans embrace their African heritage.

I looked at a fair amount Ancient Egyptian art and they seemed to have a variety of features and skin shades. Cleopatra was Greek but if we don't know her mother's heritage it seems hard to be sure what she looked like.
11
@colinchampollion4420 They are similar. That is not the point. Let me put it this way. What if your blood was from 8 countries. Norway, Germany, Ireland, Italy, France, Switzerland, Belgium and Denmark. To be a citizen you had to be 1/4 blood. You would be banned from inheriting your mother's house because it could only be used by a citizen. And you are not one.

@zeroturn7091 Taino is a Caribbean tribe so it is not surprising if most Mexicans don't have Taino blood. Most Mexicans do have Native blood (usually from the tribes that traditionally lived in Mexico).
9
@GentlecolonCare Hutus and Tutsis are done fighting. Doesn't excuse anyone European for what we did. If my neighbor is a murderer does that excuse me of my murder? No.
9
I didn't know about tribes keeping it a secret to avoid boarding school. I guess the bigger tribes couldn't hide.

This is the first time I have heard of Queen Charlotte. Some of those paintings look like she might have some African ancestry but who knows?
8
The Moors have some Sub Saharan blood.
6
They might be confused in a thousand years if his picture does not survive.

Of course there were more issues than slavery in the Civil War but slavery was a big part of the war. Slavery was a large part of the economy in the South. You can also tell how important slavery was because before the Civil War there had to be a balance of slave states and "free" states and territories admitted to the USA.

Thanks for sharing your story.
5
Edit: Tainos are a Caribbean Island tribe not a Mexican tribe.

@findingbeautyinthepain8965 Thanks for explaining. It does sound confusing.
5
Great video about searching for identity!
5
@colinchampollion4420 Also, you grew up in that house but you would be banned from living in the land you grew up in unless you can convince someone with enough blood to marry you. If you divorced you would be thrown out again.
4
@colinchampollion4420 Still not the point. The point is you aren't allowed in your homeland.
4
@stormy-le6pb You are telling me that my friend's story is bogus? How rude. Different tribes have different rules. So I am guessing that you are confused.
4
@sky-pv7ff Mexico has various tribes. That won't help my friend live where she grew up.
4
@HeyThreshold Good for you but some other people from Italy in this comment section disagree.
4
@romanicempirium3083 Yes, I heard that the Spanish came up with the term blue blood. The people didn't have to be pure, just pale enough to see the blue veins on their arms. Some people want to stay pure. Some people want to mix. This has been since the beginning of time. Mixing different types of genes is often a good thing. Even humans and other types like Neanderthals mixed.
4
@creoleexplained How was Egypt never a black territory when people from what is now Sudan ruled it for at least a hundred years? Egypt was ruled by various people. Some of which would be considered black. And others which would be considered mixed.

@victoriamaje3879 Both of her comments are here. I noticed that sometimes YouTube won't show a comment I wrote so I write another one. Sometimes I write 3. Then when I come back later usually all 3 are there. But sometimes not. I think YouTube plays games with people. Sometimes they don't allow me to like a video and I look back later and it shows that I liked it. YouTube is weird.

@kukaracacuka You are right that Germans were not Aryans. A certain strange moustached man and his kind invented that. Some Germans, (like my father) are R1b so distant relatives of R1a but not Aryans.
3
Interesting twists. Maybe he was from San Antonio with some Canary Islands roots.
3
@themadlad8540 I hadn't heard that. I thought it was Chicago.
3
@HeyThreshold Also, just to clarify: I believe you that Italians are not as obsessed with color as people in the USA. Just that some people in Italy said they were judged for being darker.
3
Everyone is oppressed but we still have to acknowledge the bad recent abuses. And the current abuses. You can't just gravely mistreat people and pretend it didn't happen.
3
@nytn German Americans as well though mainly the Japanese Americans.
3
@skeletorlikespotatoes7846 Doubtful, Skeletor. That is not proven
2
@skeletorlikespotatoes7846 It does not.
2
@nytn That was a good way to protect themselves.

I am sorry that it didn't go well. Hang in there!

@scottbivins4758 States rights were emphasized more in the beginning of the USA. But the USA was having trouble functioning with each state conducting its own foreign policy and printing its own money etc. That's why states had to give up some of their powers so that the USA continued to exist. I personally think that The South should have been allowed to leave instead of having the Civil War. However, it is very doubtful that either the USA or The Confederate States of America would be as rich and powerful separately as they are together.
2
@johncollins7062 So slavery was making the South rich and was helping make the North rich as well.
2
@johncollins7062 I am talking about the South as a whole. Nowadays the USA as a whole is considered a rich country. Despite the fact that many people in the USA are not rich and we have homeless tent villages in most cities.
2
@johncollins7062 I prefer to read books than watch movies.
2
@johncollins7062 So I "avoid the truth" if I don't watch/read what you suggest? 😂
2
@johncollins7062 I used to feel the same way about emojis. But then I realized that they are useful for conveying emotions with text. Maybe it is time that you stop being so elitist.
2
@johncollins7062 I don't care what your origins are, you are an elitist now.
2
@zoeboy82 Who said that I don't care about origins?
2
@zoeboy82 I didn't mean his ethnic origins. I meant his class origins.
2
@zoeboy82 If you are poor, middle class or rich.
2
Why are they based more on the father? 23 and me at first leaned somewhat towards my mother. Now it leans much too heavily towards my father.
2
Italy had concentration camps.
2
indiojazz They don't use genes they use records. PS. Read the comments before yelling. Your question was already answered.
2
@shebelieves9650 It doesn't change who you are but it can cause legal problems.
