  3.  @turtlepope7802  How are current datasets biased toward white men? Unless they use incorrect data... Surely a dataset should reflect reality. Saying most nazis were white men is not a stereotype, it's an objective fact. I couldn't care less if CEOs or doctors or architects are portrayed mostly as one demographic, as long as said portrayal reflects reality. And by the way you'll forgive me for being highly attuned to this. I'm from the UK, where the BBC are actively and deliberately making programmes suggesting to children that half the population of Britain was black in medieval or Roman times. Not to mention their now laughable casting choices for English period dramas.

I stopped listening to him some years ago because his show may as well have been renamed Trump Derangement Weekly , but before that actually I really loved his content and got a lot from his wisdom once upon a time - so I have a Sam Harris shaped hole in my intellect that needs to be filled 😏

  12. There is good wisdom out there that you never argue with a woman. It's impossible. What you do is listen, make sure she knows you're listening, say "I understand" and "this is really important to you huh?". Then go and do what you decide is best and she'll respect you a whole lot more.

  20. Yeah... I went to therapy with my now ex-wife. It was okay, but she was obviously not engaging with it. After a month or so she dropped out and I even carried on going alone, trying my best to get whatever benefit I could out of it. In the end it was nothing but a couple of grand down the drain.

  27. I'm British, had 3 kids on a modest income. Oldest is 10 now. We found a way, that's all I can tell you. The fulfilment of a loving family far outweighs the suffering of any financial hardship we have gone through. If we collectively had never lost sight of this fact then we likely wouldn't be in the mess we are.

  31. It's not OK. And I'm a farmer. I long to live in a world where meat is locally, ethically and sustainably produced and consumed and in which meat is a small but valuable and prized part of our diet - rather than an every-meal disposable staple as it is now. Our ancestors had to work damn hard to get a steak for dinner once a week, that is how it should be. It's a cultural thing now people just expect fast cheap plentiful meat.The answer is not to "eat ze bugs", it's to give meat and livestock the respect they deserve.

  32. Yeah there's a problem with female hubris in culture today. Your man is probably perfectly fine to have kids with, probably a solid provider and a good father. But no doubt as a normal functional human being he has failings. My suspicion is that he's just ordinary and without admitting it you feel you deserve better. And you'll go off and compete for "better" with an army of younger, hotter women. All the best.

  36. It's weird to imagine the motivations of an AI. Presumably it will not and can not have the same innate emotions as a human, things that are often to our detriment; fear, greed, anger, existential dread, love... A purely logical thought process which is both refreshing and terrifying.

  37. I will with great delight pay double, triple, quadruple the amount for a steak that has been reared freely on a local farm, slaughtered and butchered in my town. But strangely there seems to be a crusade across Europe at least to drive small and medium farmers off their land. I'm a staunch meat eater but I do think it should be a smaller and more highly appreciated part of our diet. Plenty of indigenous peoples have rituals in which they pay homage and respect to the animal they are about to eat... we have completely forgotten this.

  38. Hmmm.... I think it's a deeper problem than that now. The rot is set in and Western society is dysgenic in general. It looks to me that a large part of the population simply are not fit to bring up children. I'm a former foster carer and an adoptive father so I have first hand knowledge of this.

  39. Exactly. Meat has become like candy, that's the problem. We should not be eating it in the quantity we do and treating it like a disposable, low value food. That is the most unethical part for me and I have lived on a farm all my life. Locally reared and butchered meat is the ideal for me, but of course I don't have much hope that the average consumer will pay double or more to make this the norm. The overwhelming amount of suffering a livestock animal will experience in its life will be during it's transportation to and slaughter in an industrial abertoir.

  42.  @serifini2469  I can respect that decision. I may well have just gone along that path years ago myself, had I not met a woman who really wanted them. Kids are a funny thing. You can take or leave the idea before them, but once you have them it feels like they are literally your reason for living. In a good way. It's not the slavery that some would have you imagine.

  49. The reason a male pill is not popular is it has no benefit to corporations. The argument that women have more cost to bear in the event of pregnancy, in the age of abortion is absurd. That's even despite the fact that a man has no decision making power whatsoever after the point of conception, (while a woman can literally kill his unborn son/daughter if it conveniences her) it seems to me a pregnancy poses exponentially more risk to a man than it does to a woman.

  50. I think they are, technically. But a lot of cosmetic defects can be attractive if you think about girls who have maybe a mole (we even call it a beauty spot) or that small gap between the front teeth that I personally find hot as hell 😅
