It's the same reason as Sam Melia getting an obscene sentence for putting up stickers that said "It's ok to be white". It's the state making an example of them.   30. I'm no lawyer but in a sane society the content of your phone would be private property surely. Of course Google or Apple spy on us constantly but we enter into a legal agreement with them when we create an account on our device. So, despite not being an expert in the law, I would fully expect the police to require some kind of court order or warrant before compelling you to allow them into your phone, just the same as if it was your house.
