Something to remember about Chinese politics is the government is highly hierarchical and competitive. Ergo, getting promoted because you successfully hid all Covid cases or getting fired for some random dude testing positive is not unheard of.
197
It's worse than the numbers imply. China's local government widely double count residents to get larger allotments of state resources, leading to exaggerated population figures.

It's hard to define what's a monopoly in games because due to user preference and limited user funds some genres and platforms are sectors to themselves. For instance, many players exclusively play shooting games on Xbox, others only play free games on Steam.

You bozo, I WANTED TO SAY THAT! +1

Just another case of the inmates running the asylum
44
@mdom0277 dude, near the entire Taliban is addicted to locally grown opium and have their own civil wars, and you think they're sincere with their thin religious BS?
35
It happens in many countries, but in most of them locals will attack you just for mentioning that it's a thing.
31
The local Taliban commander's reversal of the decision points to infighting over this matter.
29
Dude, Germany cut much of their business ties to Russia. The problem is Germany doesn't want getting actually involved in the fighting.
26
Dude, much of the entire planet is farmland. And this is a forest fire. You're well into conspiritard territory for assuming someone is targeting farmers.
25
He's definitely a populist, I don't know if he has good intentions though.
25
Yeah, they've depended on loans and charity for decades.
25
The engineers behind the Webb think it would be easier to assemble the next telescope in space.
24
A lot of Afghans will attack you just for being foreign or for asking the wrong questions about their love lives, of course it's a battle royal for power in that country.
23
It's dubious this will make a difference given Brazil's black market and the weapons already in circulation, but either way it highlights the coup threat is very real.
22
Germany considers people innocent until proven guilty.

Best in class for Africa
19
They'd all rather brawl over turf than investigate an accident. Priorities, man...
18
Generator mafias they call them. Private persons will rent out generators for inflated prices
18
That map is NOT the Russian controlled area, that is where Russian forces were reported to be. The reason is there is no front line and units are scattered thinly and are constantly on the move.
18
Other reports say there was a spike in searches/applications to leave China, causing panic in certain parts of government. Passports are being arbitrarily denied or withheld as we speak
17
The BBC obsesses over how this effects "indigenous" towns but that has nothing to do with why it's illegal.
16
This report isn't actually about Sprska, it's a rehash of the breakup of Yugoslavia.
16
There's a wire tapped phone call between two PIJ soldiers where they say it was a misfire. Wouldn't be the first time the IDF was credited with an accidental blast.
16
Because LGBT wasn't much of a thing anywhere until the last century
15
@timeless1922 if it works as anticipated. There's always big caveats with biotech and none seem discussed here.
15
Is he guilty? Yes. Are the charges themselves abuse of power? Also yes.
14
Last time the Bantus revolted it was over foreign Africans "stealing jobs." There are many similar incidents, most of which were smaller scale. So NO, this was NOT and one-off event.
14
@lawbringer9857 that's a joke, right?
13
For smear campaigns?
13
Everything makes sense. "We're all homeless, let's throw things at cops"
13
I hope he ignores the order, so he's jailed for contempt while his assets are liquidated.
13
@gallie3543 no, the miners mostly poison themselves. These are generally ma and pa ventures with limited education and equipment and often they don't understand how much they're hurting themselves.
12
Dude, murder has always been a thing
12
It's all for show, anyway. They want to prove to their bosses they're doing all they can.
12
Don't abuse the young lady's death for your silly political shenanigans, fools.
12
Lots of people have power. They buy it from "generator mafias," people that own private generators and will hook up your house if you pay them. Given the simultaneous fuel shortage, though...
12
First world poverty is laughable compared to this... And yet, far more worthwhile in solving.
12
A lot of prisons in Latin America have no rules and are just a place to put offenders. Many don't even provide food and inmates get that from family, many have entire economies where inmates make goods. In many the guards just count the inmates and keep them on the premises. This is especially true when a major mafia lord is present as he can bribe/threaten anyone.
11
Dude, the trouble is there's 2,000 unique armed groups all vying for power in Libya. General fighting ended some years back but they still hate each other
11
Everyone else has two words: Shut up
11
That's not fair. A lot of NATO states pitched in.
11
Arabs?
11
The wages of sin.
11
In politics, you can never simply do something, you must be SEEN doing it to gain reputation.
11
This probably has nothing to do with religion. Women often get harassed on the streets for not wearing a hijab. In fact, often women get sexually assaulted and the furst question everyone asks is "what was she wearing?"
10
Those are first tier cities. Their excuse is that's where the most people are so that's a priority. In reality, these are display cities they show to foreigners to make the country look better than it is.
10
That's like asking plantation owners to pay their slaves.
10
You know the investigation is politically motivated when a random genocide charge is thrown in.
