@ChadOfAllChads Communism is Russia's brand of socialism
2
I think a lot of the disputes here are a product of hindsight versus foresight. No one back then knew Stalingrad would be encircled.
2
An important thing to remember is they were heavily into Darwinism. Most government departments were made to compete with each other even if it made no sense. For instance, by the end of the war there were effectively two parallel German command structures. This was caused by Hitler placing progressively more units under his direct command, adding more support staff as needed. The SS was also a hodgepodge of units where hardcore Nazis were required that was under Himmler's direct command who was Hitler's personnel frenemy.
2
@МаксимСоколов-д4я ok, now you're slightly contridicting yourself besides another historic mistake because the Brits repelled the "Bolos" but withdrew later due to disinterest in the campaign. Do you even know what sort of government Britain had back then?
2
He also doesn't know a friggin thing about stock markets.
2
Capitalism, by definition, bans monopolies. And when near all business is either owned by party members or the government and directly managed by government employees, it sure ain't a private enterprise.
2
There were many seriously bloody prison riots which showed just how messed up it all was. Although we do throw the term war crime around arbitrarily, though.
2
You could probably get access to those archives if you pull enough strings, TIK. It's been long enough there's nothing that needs to stay secret anymore.
2
@TheImperatorKnight dude, they're dead. Even the US orchestrated coup in Iran was declassified now that the Shah is long dead. The main problem with these old archives are there's whole warehouses of them and they're not particularly well organized.
2
SIDs. Sudden Infancy Deaths. Still a mystery why they occurred, but it's thought they were mostly preventable illnesses.
2
@Robert Alaverdov posted that when 20 minute video hadn't been up 10 minutes, so no
2
Inhumane? In wartime we shoot men in the face for wearing the wrong uniform. I somehow doubt seeking total victory in order to secure permanent peace qualifies as inhuman. And if you watched the video you'd see a lot of competing demands played into this, much of which did not go in the Soviets favor.

Found the Bagholder
2
It's the German acronym for National Socialist Party.

Reddit is the fastest way for a total amateur to get his message in front of a large audience as fast as possible. What kind of behavior do you think it incentivizes? It's like asking why Valve servers are always so toxic.
2
Shut up
2
Part of the problem is that a lot of soldiers in high command actually don't know a thing about military science. They think years in uniform are infallible and every aspect of fighting is an established artisanal practice, and there's generally a lot of ego involved and little study involved. Ergo, you'll get a lot of guys who think they can reduce the outcome of any fight to literal paper-rock-scissors level of simplicity.
2
I'd have to check to see if this disaster effected diplomacy on that. Because I distinctly recall the US INSISTED that POWs return wherever they wanted and NOT be returned geographically. The North Korean Ambassador stormed out.
2
If you're referring to the current situation in the US, the Fed is currently destroying all those bills they printed. I have no idea how successful they will be.
2
Marx's bio is literally history
2
TIK's a Brit. In Britain those are the same. And Syria was more than just anti-Zionist. They straight up genocided their indigenous Jewish population (the Mizrahi) a decade later.
2
Sounds like the "War is a Racket" sort of bullshit.
2
They would have died either way
2
@overdose8329 there were autonomous warlords in the area with ambiguous relationships to Damascus. The Damascan Sultan would get angry if anyone said he wasn't in charge of Lebanon, but that means nothing
2
You place wildly exaggerated values on comments. No one here controls public opinion
2
"Merry Christmas you filthy animals!"
2
@petervote7914 Mussolini coined the term Fascist. From the Latin Fascies, meaning royal scepter. It only came to mean what you're thinking after the war when the new Italian government was full of politicians accusing each other of being secretly Fascist.
2
Most nations don't distinguish between at least two of those
2
I assure you. Every history project is at least 50% longer than you anticipate.
2
Probably an inside joke... I hope.
2
Some of these are actual trolls, who think starting arguments is funny. Some are Holocaust deniers who are largely trolls too but treat it like a full-time job. Some are socialists who never anything nice about TIK because of a few weird things he said years ago. Don't confuse these with the many European watchers of this channel who have a variety of historical perceptions you'd find weird.
2
The misconceptions probably came partially from Hitler's pep talks and attempts to keep up fighting spirits. But it's established elsewhere that Hitler was full of it.
2
Not all of it, but a lot of it.
2
You didn't watch the video, did you?
2
Adam is too angry at the world to trust
2
Mussolini seems to have still been applying Italian mountain fighting tactics at this point...
2
Lewis is a Brit. I doubt he knows anything about Japan
2
Go away
2
@TheImperatorKnight Or more likely it's the one Yiddish word they know, and they're trying to sound like they know the first damn thing about Jews.
2
They anticipated a 1-month campaign and minimal occupation burden. They got an 11-day campaign with geurrilla wars that produced bodies just as fast as the campaign.
2
They were many things, but no one lied for them.
2
@TheImperatorKnight I think he's making too much of offhand comments you said about current events.
2
But let's be realistic and note Germany couldn't possibly sustain a blockade of Britain for long enough for them to starve.
2
A lot of the Germans on D-Day were teenagers and middle aged men with 8 weeks training. And this was after Kursk.
2
He was mocking Nazis
2
To be fair to Manstein's lack of creativity, there wasn't a lot he could do. Get all the gas and food he could and charge in to establish a road to Stalingrad.
2
Wall Street banker is way to vague a term. You mean investment banks or asset managers or both?
2
@shorewall you think he cares? He's trying to convince himself, not you.
2
That didn't happen. Period. During the war not even David Ben Gurion himself knew if there would be any Jewish state in his lifetime. Also... The Yeshuv didn't get along well with the Brits, and Churchill thought Palestine was a waste of time.
2
@moss8448 I wasn't talking to you either
