Speaking of internal citizenship, in the most ancient Chinese empires this actually got particularly extreme because we can actually see the breakup of China with strengthening internal citizenships. The governors started issuing orders referring to themselves as "king," but spoke to the King of China referring to themselves as "Duke." This processed continued with the governors getting their own armies and independent wars and by the time the King of China was overthrown to really only ruled the capital city and basically no one cared. When China was reunified they had to coin a word for emperor because everyone was calling themselves king.

It's not like the cartel connection to illegal fishing where by no surprise the same sailors that will smuggle drugs are the sailors that will fish illegally, so the overlap is coincident.

  30. Given all I heard about extreme chinese food and disregard for life I wouldn't be surprised but I haven't heard much about that. There was a scandal many years ago that aborted babies were eaten for TCM, and I heard of a lot of bodies (human and animal) being found casually dumped in the river because no one could be bothered to bury them, and of course there was the matter of criminals being executed for their organs. But I haven't heard of human flesh being mixed in with pork.
