  7. I think you may be over atteibuting to the obvious potential fault. Lots of good firearms have been made by people without experience in firearms design. It of course plays a role but its significance is likely smaller. General engineering ineptitude or poor leadership may be the core issue. If you see a problem and your boss says "no it's fine, we've already finished with that", that's kind of the end of the discussion.

  23. I get that having some small degree of access restrictions impedes the ability of picking up a gun impulsively or while in a state of mental instability. Also that by making it inconvenient makes it less likely for criminals (who largely, but not exclusively) operate based on convenience (as most people in general do). But it is also true that if someone is motivated enough (particularly terrorists and criminal organizations) they will find a way however inconvenient, to make or obtain guns. Now, that unfortunately doesn't in itself justify having a gun. But it is a decently strong argument against the rationale for making them illegal.

  25. Yeah, I get the other guy every action hero at the time had a big revolver for a hero gun. But they were a bit antiquated and not as suave or cutting edge as Flemming was making the character. I think he definitely made the right choice heavily favouring automatics. So Bond wasn't just some cowboy with a gun, he was sophisticated.

The dumbest arguments for .g(uh)-if are "do you pronounced it jate", to which one should reply "gel, geoff, ginger" The next is the argument, "the word it's short for is 'graphics' hence a hard G", to which one should reply, "you have abbreviations that are pronounced by the letter, read as an entirely new word, or a weird mix of both. As a result the pronunciation of individual letters often changes from the original terms. 'SWAughT' vs. 'SW@', ROM (as in CD-ROM), 'RawM' not 'ROhM' " When you create a thing you have the right to name it, if you respect entrepreneurship and invention, you should call it the way the inventor intended. In this case a .gif is a "jif".
