  15. Here's the thing people don't understand, Guns are expensive to manufacture so most of the firearms used by individuals for hunting were originally designed for A millitary at some point (not even necessarily in the same format). Similarly, when a country goes to war it tends to source firearms from wherever it can, so even guns that were built entirely for hunting/sport have been used by a military or police force at one point or another. You don't Even have to look internationally for that. In WW1 Canada bought locally made 'Ross' sporting rifles for their military. It is unfortunate reality that there are legitimate necessities for firearms in Canada. Ours is a country filled with dangers and remote land owners who cannot rely on police for their personal safety. The world is not some Utopia, we cannot burry our heads in the sand and pretend bad things don't happen. There is a war in Ukraine right now between two large 1st world countries. We cannot rely on someone else to save us from a bear, you can't even guarantee the Canadian government won't jail you for defending yourself against a r@¶!$+. I don't like people dying, I know it is most often avoidable, but this law isn't even talking about that. We are talking about firearms that aren't generally used by criminals, making a show of banning them and ignoring the hard problem of actually reducing crime, and preventing would be criminals from accessing the guns that are already illegal. Plus they aren't interested in deliberately excluding airsoft which fires plastic pellets as a competitive international sport. A sport that is even legal in countries that outright ban all guns.
