@TheImperatorKnight Historically, yes. Contemporarily? There is only One True Socialism and that's Marxism, no? My point is that in policy and attitude the distinctions between a modern Marxist and a so-called Social Democrat is so small that it's a distinction without a difference; most people don't understand their ideology. I've got to the point where unless and until Marxism is purged there can be no meaningful dialogue, because the rest of us will be fighting a constant rearguard action against the insanity of the Marxists. Not a particularly inspiring position, but it is, I believe, the only realistic one.

You're right, some people cannot be saved - this is a Fundamental Truth of Christianity, because it is a fundamental truth of human nature! Altruism is not bad - it is an evolutionary adaptation. You need to broaden your understanding to include Evolutionary Psychology. Altruism within your tribe is a Good Thing. What is "your tribe"? That is where the question really lies. You are using altruism to mean something simultaneously broad and narrow that doesn't encapsulated the thousands of years of distilled wisdom that is the Torah, Bible and the writings and traditions that surround them.

@TheLostArchangel666 Honestly, I'm not sure that distinction exists in reality. Social Democracy is, as far as I can tell, a propaganda term used because Socialism has a (rightfully earned) bad reputation. You have Capitalism or you don't; I'm free to operate in the market or I'm not. You can have Capitalism with a social safety net, but that's not Social Democracy - that's Capitalism with a social safety net. As TIK points out, so much if Socialism/Marxism is obfuscation and lies intended to trick people into handing over power from one group of self-appointed elites to another, just like the pigs in Animal Farm. I'm also leery of anything with a plain meaning which is modified by the word "social". Social Justice - literally a synonym for Mob Rule. Social Care - society abandoning the elderly. Social Credit - state control of individual behaviour. Democracy, definitionally, is already "social", so adding the redundancy doesn't work for me.

I guess his defence team was just shit, because, it being 16 years after the end of the war, the lack of evidence for their existence would have been even more obvious, right? The material world and the immaterial are separate. Agreed. The physical truth has nothing to do with divine truth, almost by definition. How does this "prove" that objective reality doesn't exist? Or that Christians do not believe in objective reality? I think you are confusing the view of now with the view of the hereafter. Everything after death is unknowable; it is as delusional to say with certainty that there is nothing, as it is to say there is eternal life in heaven or hell. Saying "you believe in heaven therefore, you do not believe in objective reality", is a complete non sequitur.

Do you want to finish the Stalingrad series? If so, you need stop and do an honest assessment of what it will take to get it done. If "do something completely different for 12 months and not think about it" is the answer, then that's what you need to do. As others have said: You ARE in control. YOU, no one else. I want you to finish because I want to be able to watch the complete series. I want you to finish for your sense of pride and personal achievement, but I don't want that to come at the cost of your health/sanity.

I'm missing context. Is this discussing Operations Research or something different? You seem to be talking about modelling/abstraction. We can't predict individual actions, but we can make generalisations based on past experience. Indeed, the "ability to predict the future", is core to being successful. We can't say "this unit will attack and suffer exactly 3 casualties and use precisely 1294 rounds of ammunition." But we can say "we know the enemy has x equipment and y experience, so, based on past experience, z amount of force probably will/won't be able to overcome them." I think one thing you're missing is the "modeller's axiom": all models are wrong, but some are useful.
