  2.  @theylied1776  Yeah it's pretty common for countries who loose wars to have national myths about how good they fought, it salvages some pride. Same as the South in the US Civil War. The problem is when this myth making gets out of control to the point where the Finns start smack talking their bigger tougher, battle hardened super power neighbour which could crush them easily if it wouldn't start WWIII then it becomes pretty ridiculous

  3.  @theylied1776  Warum sollten Sie das annehmen? What different would it make if I'm British? The thing is almost everyone thinks his own country/unit etc are great fighters. Sure the Finns fought well in the Winter War but that wasn't what was important. What was important was the huge mistakes by the Red Army. After the Ukraine war the Ukrainians will have lots of nice myths about how well they fought. It won't save them from a catastrophic defeat will it? It won't matter that the Russians made bad mistakes early on because they learn from their mistakes and get their shit together. The countries which win wars don't need these myths as much. The reality of war is most guys are killed by artillery strikes and similar, your martial skills and individual merit don't count for that much in the scheme of things. Not in a real war like Ukraine. You can be the best sniper in the world and you get buried under hundreds of tons of rubble as a FAB500 hits your position.

Ukraine's deliberate antagonisation of Russia (i.e. pursuing NATO membership, talking about acquiring nuclear weapons and shelling Donetsk despite Minsk II) caused the Russian invasion in 2022. And the decision to continue the war after Russia made its point and offered generous peace terms a month into the war resulted in the catastrophe for Ukraine now. There was a better alternative which was ignore what Biden wanted and settle with Russia. Likewise after Britain went to war on behalf of the unrealistic and belligerent Polish dictatorship of 1939 (unrealistic because Poland was too weak to stand up to both Germany and the Soviet Union simultaneously when it could have negotiated with either) even after throwing Czechoslovakia under the bus, Britain decided to fight a war against the strongest military power in the world. It was just a dumb thing to do. Yes the final outcome was being on the winning side but it left the country weak, broke and the empire collapsed. Ukraine's not even going to have the consolation of being on the winning side when the peace treaty is finally signed. They already know this now, even Zelensky but it's too late to do anything about it. Bit like Churchill realised in the Yalta conference he was being thrown under the bus.

  25.  @calc1657  Course there is. Millions of people borrow huge money to spend years studying totally useless subjects then when they graduate they can't get the kind of job they want. Yes they can get a minimum wage job doing something unskilled. It's a different kind of unemployment issue from Greece or China. In addition millions of young people don't find it attractive to work even if work is there. They just don't bother.

But not all Chinese study engineering :) They seem to have a similar problem to the US (actually most Western countries) in that most young people just can't make a decent living any more. Cost of living just outstrips wages. It's probably even worse in China than in most Western countries because the cost of housing in the cities where there are jobs is even more unaffordable than San Francisco or New York or London.

He keeps making ridiculous claims over and over about Russia like human wave tactics, where's the footage? If half of what Zeihan said was true, Russia would be losing this war instead of grinding forward all over the front.

As for Russian losses, yes most people believe this but take a look into why you believe this. The Oryx blog for example has been shown to be full of errors e.g. inventing and exaggerating Russian losses and classifying Ukrainian losses and Russian. Auditing a random sample found plenty of errors. Hard to know whether deliberate or not. As for personnel losses, we hear about hundreds of thousand of Russians killed but mediazona can only identity just over 40,000 of them. There's a hell of a lot of wishful thinking going on here.

  34.  @giuseppeanoardi3973  Eliminating the loose cannon Prigozhin actually makes Putin's regime more secure. The few disloyal people who sided with him identified themselves and can no longer be a threat. Surovikhin who was a bit too close to Prigozhin has been sent to Africa apparently. As for the weaker rouble, this is helpful more than anything. Russian energy exports are priced in foreign currencies whereas armaments and other government costs are paid for in roubles. Obviously if inflation got out of control that would be a problem but it hasn't happened so far. Russians are complaining about inflation and higher costs but are they complaining more than the Europeans or Americans? Not so far.

Iran and Russia are now pretty tight and Saudi Arabia has made its peace with Russia. Pretty soon Iran's going to be strong enough to stand up to the USA. Look at how North Korea now has advanced Russian missiles which can hit the mainland USA. Russia's not going to let the US or Israel get away with anything in the future.

Except that Ukraine will be partitioned. Failing that then yes, the Russians will conquer it eventually perhaps not Galicia but the rest of it. They're building a huge army and the Ukrainians are running out of men. They're at the January 1945 stage.

Russia explained over and over Ukraine joining NATO was a red line for them. American insisted on publicly backing Ukraine joining NATO and put Ukraine on a MEP. So now we have a war with Russia. The claim that Russia wants to expand the war out of Ukraine has zero evidence. It's just a Zeihan propaganda talking point. If you want to find a country at war who wants to expand the war you should look to Israel - attacked an Iranian embassy FFS to force Iran into a response and drag America in.

Actually, about most things but Russia especially. As for fission technology, it's pretty simple to get right. 80 year old tech. Even North Korea can do it. If you think Russia, a country that trains more engineers and scientists than the USA can't manage what North Korea can then you need to try thinking.
