Progressives have these mental buttons which set off righteous indignation.  They're pressed when they sense something like racism or discrimination against the weak, as in the Afleck example.   Sam Harris has had a lot of trouble with them because he likes thought experiments, as a way of weighing ideas.   The thought experiments will push the SJW's buttons, because they're not smart enough to distinguish hypotheticals from reality.

Bill Maher wants much increased government involvement, higher taxes, government health care, more welfare, etc. Granted the hawkish foreign policy is normally not considered libertarian. But his interest seem to be aggressive self-defense, i.e. taking out threats.

And, pre legalization, you wouldn't go to jail for possession; a fine and probation is it's a large quantity. I'm just saying that there are negative effects of the availability of pot. They legalized it in Oregon also. And there are going to be negative consequences, now that every adult has access to 25% thc pot all the time. Legalization is a libertarian argument, not a progressive one. There were much more automobile deaths when car design was much less regulated in the 1960s. Same with tobacco when taxes were much lower and sale to minors was legal.

The interesting part about the is that people attack Sam Harris on foreign policy just because he's not a left wing whack job.  He's not a hawk like Christopher Hitchens, but he's not a deranged ideologue like Noam Chomsky either.   Notice that Chomsky thinks that the only correct view of Clinton is that he is an evil mustache twirling villain who "regards Africans as just ants".    Preferably, and this includes Harris, one could avoid being a Kook and employ Occam's razor, and attribute Clinton's actions to poor government intelligence and political sleaze.   It's not bombastic and self-important, but it's more accurate.

  24. I thought it was strange that on MSNBC they were ridiculing Sen. Cruz's attack on this ad, and Tammy Duckworth kept saying that Cruz was praising a "white supremacist advertisement". Apparently, she thinks that because the Russians are white (due to the norther latitude of Russia) that that makes them "white supremacists". The rhetoric is getting really perverse and goofy.
