Charge for what? Shoving someone is hardly a major offence. How many prosecutions are you aware of for such actions? My guess is 0 and thousands of protestors could be charged.

If you outnumber "them" then there is simple answer just vote.

@rickkarsan4491 I love it. So emulating the Chinese leader by increasing term limits. You are right though that Trump certainly is in the race to win presidency for a second term, the polls suggest neck and neck. If more Republican s turn out he will win based on current polling numbers.

That lady is directing them towards where police can get them easy. Go do it on wall street is code for you want to take on the police do it in the open. It's difficult for police to arrest in neighborhoods because upon arrival the vandals will mingle and no way to know who is resident or vandal.
2
Probably not actually. We haven't heard what the police dispatch might have thought or asked. If someone says I am being threatened by someone recording me it sounds sus. If someone is truly threatening they won't have a spare hand to record stuff.
2
It's cultural, the US is high in all crime metrics when compared to other high income countries. Incarceration is as you point out through the roof so that's not working. It should be noted however not all states are high, some states have crime rates in line with high income countries.
2
It's more powerful if it comes from within a race if racism is the issue. Applies to all races.
2
It won't until the left and right side of politics start being reasonable and work on outcomes instead of ideology. But I wish you luck and hope for your sake it's sooner than I think.

Many years ago in Australia there was a referendum to change the government to constitutionally a republic without changing anything other than the Governor General to become the President as chosen by a minimum of 2 thirds of the parliament I think it is. It obviously failed and interestingly the lower socio economic group voted against it. The US system of government has the president akin to a king or queen in an absolute monarchy. At the time when compared to an absolute monarchy it was better but I would suggest a constitutional monarchy where no individual has too much power is a better model. If a referendum was to be held tommorow in Australia for a Republic with a directly elected president I would vote no. I voted in favour last time around with no change in the operation of government. The governor general in Australia has veto power but I don't think it has ever been exercised.

@everyonedeservestogohome2949 it's good they threw the gun away instead of using it at least
2
If what you say is true that's deeply concerning and also what about some poorer and especially older people who might not have a modern smartphone.
2
In reality no reaction it happens somewhere in the US every few years.
2
I searched on internet about the victim and it seems he might be a petty thief. My comment to that is so what? Even the harshest Islamic Sharia court in the world would only cut a hand off and not kill the guy noting in this particular case he might have been casing a joint looking to see if anything worth stealing which is not even a crime.
2
Vlad do you not believe the official death toll numbers of states that have a Republican governor?
2
sunrize601 That's not true about right or left government. The virus doesn't care. Look at Australia, where both left wing and conservative state governments have had both failures and successes and no possible way to identify who is who based on the response if you didn't know.
2
While I agree with your general sentiment, I don't necessarily agree that it could have been stopped, the CDC and Fauci initially didn't take it seriously. But after Fauci basically admitted errors were made when he said if lockdowns were put in place earlier it would have saved lives, which is certainly true in NY because hospitals were overrun. The problem is Trump ignored the changed position of the organizations which caused the original failure just as much as Trump. He has kicked a home goal now with many considering him to be completely responsible when he wasn't really in the beginning, it was a joint effort.

I was told by a person in Macao a little after both handed to China that the plan is by 2050 HK and Macao will be intergrated into China and the borders will open. I don't think it was intended that in 2050 China will become a democracy. China is playing a long game. Just take one freedom or bit of democracy each year. A tried and true method of control is to charge any opposition with unlawful behaviour, not only China does this. China is the most successful propaganda machine ever seen in history. They use non physical violence which gains much less attention. Re education camps with estimated 1,000,000 or 2,000,000 largely comprised of the Muslim minority, but includes anyone who disagrees with the Communist party. The wealthy in China don't care for the others and refer to them as immigrants when they come to work in the cities. They don't receive the same basic services such as healthcare compared to the non immigrants. China won't be changing in my lifetime I think.

@coreyn8272 totally agree with you. When I was 13 but probably looked older I was running in a park in the early morning this is back in the 80s in Australia. An unmarked car stopped beside me and 2 big gentleman wearing shirt and ties got out. They stopped me and asked me what I was doing and my name. I guess I would have given them my school id. Then one of them went to call it in on the radio and yes just like the movies I saw a gun in his sock. For me that was a bit scary at the time. There is no possibility I would have started swearing at the police. Arbery wasn't scared he swore at the policeman first and was the aggressor and the policeman got annoyed and a bit scared and swore back initially but didn't swear after that and called for another policeman. I am a white male.

If Chicago and many other US cities were a country they would be in the top 20 for homicide. A homicide rate of about 20 makes it about 10 times Canada's rate and 4 times that of USA. But they want a one party city this is sort of bound to happen. This applies regardless of the political party but just maybe 85 years with a mayor from the same party is an issue. The party has run that city longer than the communists have run China. Who says a one party system doesn't work?

It's not only the US , Australia for example has problems but it's the extent of the problems. With regards to Australia versus USA with policing and our justice systems there is significant differences. The most alarming thing I have seen other than the actual event is the mayor telling the FBI to charge them. In both our country it's accepted (I think) that church(religion) legislature and judiciary are separate. No public official outside of the judicial process should be interfering in this case , the FBI and whatever their judicial process is. The mayor should have just said it's in the capable hands of the FBI and they need time to do their work please ask them any questions you want as it would be inappropriate for us to comment. This action could keep those people out of jail for years whether they are guilty or not because now the case has been prejudiced and to find an appropriate venue for a potential trial will be difficult. Edit: and apparently a shop owner shot someone in the riot so yet more violence and death.
2
@imfunaplaymahgames8880 I hope things get better for you at some point in time.
2
The girl in the video was only referring to her area. She knows in other places black people are doing this, let's not assume the girl is stupid.
2
If the disinfectant works it is poisoning the person or at very least killing the top layers of skin and if breathed in guess what someone following Trump's thought bubble
2
Check the current per capita deaths in Sweden, I think the US might be able to catch up. You only need about 40,000 more deaths give or take to have about the same mortality rate as Sweden.
2
@brendaburns1016 People who planned what are to blame for what?
2
If this officer and other attending officers were trained properly and taught that then it could make a significant difference to the charges.
2
Actually what you just said is what the polls are saying. The likely vote for Biden is far greater than his approval rating.
2
@Foul Gerbil abandon local police because in many cases they are not viable and can't possibly have accountability. 18,000 separate police forces. That's probably more than the rest of the world combined. Maybe Trump can use that, more police forces than the rest of the planet he is strong on law and order and it wouldn't be a lie. Go to a state based system like Australia, I wouldn't trust my local government to have police. In the US maybe big city can but need one rule and by state should work.
2
That is not what was said. Only thing said 79 reviews. Certain incidents would be reviewed automatically I would think but really depends on that police department policy. When there is 0 cases of reviews in a high crime area that's when people should be concerned.
2
@jutau I am dinosaur, but now work out how to slow video down and seems not Asian , at normal speed can't tell
2
@soinmeditation3310 I agree with you
2
Jews , Christians and Muslims all worship the same one true God. Note I am not religious but I know it's the same god.
2
I wouldn't take too much offence. The term first world originally meant opposed the Soviet Union and it's allies which were second world and all other countries 3rd world. It's true the US doesn't look outside their own country for inspiration much. Compared to other 1st world countries they are at the bottom in many respects. You mentioned life expectancy, check the life expectancy in Alabama or Mississippi and compare to your country, you might be surprised. The US is diverse with some states having high standards and others low.
2
@roshelltannen9698 I am not black or American and I agree extremely offensive. To say to any group is extremely offensive and is to coerce in a way. I saw a black Republican congressman, I think he was, talking on the issue. He said he has been called Oreo on occasion I think for being Republican and is the same thing. People should not do this.
2
I think there are enough communist countries in the world. Argument about tax rates etc. fair enough but not talk of revolution it always ends badly.
2
As far as economic and health responses go the US will spend more on both , so looking at headline numbers doing the most. This is not the issue, the issue is about functionality and real results. I have a Thai friend and she said to me Americans not have enough food and Thailand is lucky no problems in that area. Again not actually a food problem but seeing miles of cars lined up waiting for food handouts in a modern day style of soup kitchen does look strange even to many in low and middle income country.
2
Lovely couple and so young. I noticed the showing of looking after bats. They would have had rabies vaccine I expect for Australia Bat Lyssavirus. I wonder if for example if in Australia zoo the Hendra virus another common infection in bats was to mutate to a less deadly disease so that it can spread and outbreak was to occur would reaction be same to current situation. Hendra virus would appear at least as deadly as Ebola based on a small number of known infections but no known cases of human to human spread.
2
There is no indication of violations, only that use of force has been reviewed a number of times. In the context of where he works we know nothing. Maybe that's normal because a high arrest rate in a high crime area.
2
It's not unlikely.
2
It's not about lying, it's the official numbers are tested positive. Every country has many that have not been tested. Indications are about 20% of NY got the virus so the testing only picked up a small percentage actually. This is the same everywhere. There is no way to know accurately. If you want real estimates of cases detected the percentages of tests positive at a point in time will be a good indicator. If that number is above 5% then many cases are being missed I would think.
2
@destinationskyline07 the US contrary to popular belief is fairly socialist. The problem is the US is not good at spending money. ( Or too good) depending on perspective.
2
No they don't. Can't refuse based on race, religion and disability for example if rules say no dogs a seeing eye dog must be accepted.
2
Include Australia and NZ , so Australasia as well. It's not only about human diseases. The successful countries also take agricultural outbreaks , food safety and security seriously also. It's the same thinking and often the same types of control measures.
2
He didn't search for drugs which is what he was talking about , he checked for weapons. That seems pretty straight forward to me.
2
Not really, the US has been pretty constant at about 20,000 cases per day. It's interesting to watch the media in different countries. In Australia an outbreak is 5 people infected, in the US an outbreak in a nursing home is only newsworthy if 50 people dead then it's an outbreak.
2
Unions have a place and it's their job to protect their members, to fund defence in the case of an officer being charged. It's not the unions fault if mayor's want to listen to everything they say. The union is not more powerful than the government. Unions are normally aligned to the left side of politics. Crushing unions for what purpose? So it's easier to prosecute police meanwhile , criminals get the benefits of state funded lawyers.
2
The guy also has a pretty good weapon. Not something that could be done lightly. If the man didn't drop the weapon to arrest would require tasing at least. Then all over news man tased over footpath tile. The police nervous it might be staged to break through the line as well. One was heard saying hold the line.

@Palesaist with the crime issue I am implying that the government has other ongoing things of great concern so more difficult to deal with and decisions need to be made. No different to resource allocation in New York and northern Italy. Decisions at the peak of the problem are made to let older people die in favour of younger people. I don't know SA current situation but when it comes down to it if doing a certain thing for example a hard lockdown causes greater harm because if an already fragile situation then maybe better not to do it. It's up to each country what they do. It's also possible that certain actions in one country don't work in another. The amount a less well off country can spend is lower. I am fortunate I am in Australia and so far looking good. A good example is some Asian countries decided to tell everyone to wear mask and Australia we haven't . Our case numbers and deaths are almost exactly the same as South Korea on a per capita basis. The key is the initial response. I just had a quick look at a news article and it says there was or is a tobacco and alcohol ban. Very bad idea. I consume both of them and if you did that to me I would probably protest too.
2
@Palesaist and the other point about people following the instructions is to do with a higher level of fear. They know if they don't have money they don't get the best healthcare. A quick search indicates the wealthiest 10% in your country can afford private healthcare. Also if you are wealthy you can protect yourself easier living in a big house a distance from others. A person knows if they are vulnerable and usually will make greater efforts to lower risk.
2
@itsdatez9661 maybe so , but they do have a higher life expectancy than say someone from Mississippi. Maybe they have better healthcare who knows.
