And those who chose not to vote.

She correct, however it seems she is indicating letting bird flu spread unchecked is a good idea. If such a policy is adopted the US could be the cause of a pandemic because allowing the disease to spread unchecked increases the chances of bird flu mutating to a point where human to human transmission becomes possible.
16
@heidimueller1039 that's not quite correct, the US had the highest death rate from covid 19 for a high income country. If someone argues about how deaths are reported point out to them that the US has the lowest life expectancy of a high income country, when someone dies is universally reported the same way as in age of death.
15
@1987BillyBob Public health failures in the US are consistent. It's nothing to do with how dead people are counted. You seem to think it's culture but it's not , culture plays a part only. You seem happy that US people are free to kill themselves or each other and the government won't provide a decent level of healthcare. Are you happy your government watches people die because they aren't willing to pay market prices for goods and services in the healthcare industry? By the way not paying market prices means paying up to 10 times the market price, not that they are unwilling to come up with the money. It's insane that your tax dollars are used to subsidise big pharma in particular and watch people die.
14
It doesn't help your cause by either lying or spreading misinformation. He is a US citizen and also an immigrant.
13
Well at least your current allies are doing ok.
8
Actually many of them argue they voted for him because they believe he is a liar and won't do any of the stupid things he promised. This is especially the case with mass deportations and tariffs.
8
Both, what is referred to as stagflation.
7
I think because Trump didn't actually understand the interviewers mannerisms. Also he knew when to pull back rather than constantly attack like some reporters do causing a defensive reaction in Trump. I have a feeling Trump won't want an Australian interviewing him for a while. Maybe , who knows he might be thinking of Rupert Murdoch an ex Australian who Trump is likely fond of.
6
Somewhat of a facade. When you have one person who is the head of government and head of state and can choose the entire unelected cabinet it's a recipe for increased chances of a dictatorship.
6
15% baby, on reduced revenue from corporations as Trump's tariffs tank the economy and any business involved in import, export and retail has reduced revenue.
6
Lucky your neighbour bought the flag and pole before tariffs kicked in.
5
Stock feed and wheat will get cheaper because other countries won't want US produce. So you can eat GM soy with some pasta very cheap.
5
Maybe they should turn the Whitehouse into a nursing home, it doesn't matter who gets elected the facilities might be needed this time round.
5
The US is terrible at quarantine. They still permit sales of raw chicken manure.
5
It's sort of playing the victim. Saying he has to is suggesting he is being forced.
4
Time for a name change i think. CDS (Centre for Disease Spreading)
4
Then it would still be unsustainable. In fact even more so because wealthy people live longer on average, the current system already favours high income people because of this reason.
4
The problem in the US with illegal immigration has built up over decades. It makes much more sense to have an amnesty and path to citizenship for people who have been in the US for a certain period of time and deport anyone with a record of violent crime or signs financial crime. Then properly secure the border from illegal entry and be far more selective about who can get a visa. I don't know why some Americans object to using the military to protect land borders but totally ok to use the military as in the coast guard i think it is in the US to protect sea borders.
4
You are probably right but it isn't really clear to who. Importers exporters and retailers in the US will get poorer if Trump's plans are implemented. Probably the biggest beneficiaries will be tech billionaires with major sales outside the collapsing US.
3
Nobody has ever won a trade war at least in the modern day. Like the vast majority of modern wars both sides lose.
3
That I believe is probably the average cost on the mainland. It'll likely be double that at Guantanamo Bay. All food needs to be shipped in and barracks made for the guards on top of an extra 29,000 beds, probably a new power generator, a desalination plant most likely as not much water available and sewage plant to cope with 35,000 people or so (depending on guard to detainee ratio). Mess facilities and toilet and shower facilities. The other thing of course is maybe they build this facility costing hundreds of millions or even billion plus depending on security levels required and the courts say you can't send people there. Common sense says find out if it's even legal first however that's not how Trump rolls.
3
Well being Australian I wouldn't by a Chinese made Tesla, I would buy a Chinese made and branded vehicle because they are cheaper and just as good for transportation. Seems Musk really wants to kill his own brand for some unknown reason.
3
Cattle farmers will be ok, the US is a net beef importer, have to see if Trump does a blanket tariff on beef imports. At the moment Australia's largest export market for beef by weight is the US. However even if Australia doesn't get hit with tariffs we have a quota which would likely get used up if other countries are tariffed by the US.
3
@candiceberg5232 you're kidding right?
3
@emilogborn4097 I didn't blame obesity on the government in my previous comments. However if the government feeds children junk food for school lunches as has often occurred in the past and probably still does then the government is partly to blame because those children will grow up to be obese. Do you not agree with me? Japan also has school.lunches but they are always healthy with very little junk food and the obesity rate in Japan is very low, there is a cause and effect.

I have read through the comments and think people are a little confused. Australians and Americans are not homogeneous groups. The diversity in the US might be greater but this has also been demonstrated in Australia recently. The political system in the US is conducive to what is occurring, in Australia if our leader the prime minister stuffs up according to the ruling party they just replace him, he might generally choose the cabinet by conventions within a party not the law which really gives the whole elected party the choice but the ministers (secretary of whatever) are elected officials. The King chooses them in the US and no need that they are elected and he can fire them at will. To remove the King (president) it's a lengthy process of impeachment, in Australia sometimes removing a leader even half the elected representative are unaware until hours before. The cabinet in the US and Australia is the government, one elected and one chosen by a king. We are all just people and largely a product of our environment.

Technically costs are already being accrued. The next store fitout if done after tariffs come in will cost more. This cost needs to be recovered and also sales volumes will reduce when tariffs come in, need to increase margins or spend less on wages just to make the same profit.
2
@wilsonas53 yes lower prices of certain goods due to lower exports will only be temporary.
2
Billionaires and big business not affected by tariffs and retaliatory tariffs will be the financial winners.
2
Likely because of people retiring going to live in a cheaper area. It doesn't mean much.
2
Spying on an opposition party or candidate is actually standard practice in any democracy in the world to differing extents. It's only if that spying extends to hacking or other forms of theft, maybe like the Russians did to The US Democrats that it's a problem. The whole world must be fraudulent including the Republican Party , Trump is the only one we can trust, Blessed are we to have such a great leader of the free world.
2
He is certainly not a fiscal conservative, the gov debt is probably running up faster than with Obama and that's before the virus.
2
Well soon very few Americans will be able to afford Steak or Shrimp and have to stick to eating eggs.
2
Only to a very limited degree regarding a country like China. Chinese wages aren't that low any more by world standards so production of high Labor low cost goods is moving elsewhere. I am Australian and we believe in free trade. So we have access to cheaper goods. Is it really in the interests of the US to effectively ban Chinese made vehicles as an example. I am not in the market for one but if I was I would buy a $20,000 USD BYD electric vehicle over a Tesla.
2
@marlo2853 what are you smoking, Trump got about 33% of the vote from eligible voters. However add in those who didn't care and didn't vote it's a bit below your 70%. Yes they voted for tariffs and an economic downturn hurting lower income individuals disproportionately. That was a silly thing to do.
2
Yeah maybe call them the developing southern territory, calling the US a province would be too polite.
2
As far as more people getting diagnosed with autism it's simply because more people being checked and expanded criteria. As far as Americans not being healthy, that's due to cultural reasons and people eating too much junk food and a poor healthcare system including preventative healthcare. Look at the Japanese school lunch program and compare it to how kids are being fed in the US, very different. You might want to watch a couple of videos on the matter to discover why Japan has one of the highest life expectancies and the US the lowest for a wealthy country and it's got nothing to do with availability of junk food which every high income countries people can afford.
2
Laura probably can't see the display, she just reads from a teleprompter. It's some other staff who made the mistake.
2
Urine is often gold coloured. Welcome to your golden age Americans.
2
As an Aussie it's an interesting concept because Australia was created as a penal colony. It's not entirely a bad idea however it's contradictory to Trump's policy on trade. He doesn't believe in free trade but now wants to use foreign countries to lock up prisoners, in other words extreme free trade for incarceration services. It's really strange.
2
The guy is nuts. He says trade deficits cause government debt. They are completely unrelated. Also and this has already occurred, Canadians are boycotting US products and holidays. The US can't boycott Canada as much, are Americans going to boycott gasoline and Canadian lumber, well of course not. Starting a trade war you are guaranteed to lose is just crazy.
2
The easiest countries for Americans to go to if they're skilled is all the other high income English speaking countries, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia and New Zealand.
2
Actually it's not the only country but the only high income country like that.
2
To be fair it could be very mixed. If there's mass deportations this could lower housing costs. Consumer goods and most food are going to go up.
2
The US debt per capita is much higher than in Canada, Canada would be paying to join the US.
2
That system is common in a traditional village type setting, it shouldn't be in a modern democracy (at least for now).
2
The thing is having universal healthcare doesn't stop anyone from using private healthcare if they are in a rush for an elective procedure. So I have no idea why Americans object to universal healthcare, they actually spend a higher percentage of GDP or at least last time I looked on government funding non universal healthcare than Australia spends on it's universal healthcare system. The only thing we barely cover is dental which is only offered to some on welfare I think.
2
I don't think Canadians will be affected much at all. First of all the tariffs will be targeted mostly against food and Harley Davidson again etc. , in other words discretionary products and products that can easily be purchased elsewhere, think of ketchup or canned soup or chilli sauce, all those things can be purchased from Mexican manufacturers, just ignore the US ones. Canada might decide not to put any tariffs on vehicles because of the interconnected nature of that industry many vehicles are partially manufactured in both countries.
2
That's what the national guard is. However the federal government can also call those troops up.
