Having grown up in a Western country where a male like me lives a full ten years longer on average than a Russian male, I'd say that the past was pretty depressing in Russia, as well. The Russians don't seem to have the first clue how to look out for each other and that is painfully obvious on the battlefield. No wonder they have no regard for life. It's not in their culture at all.

Since the Russian "annexation" a "Russian" city has fallen for the first time since WWII and there are a whole lot more "Russian" towns and cities that are going to fall like dominos. Yay Russia! You're unbeatable, now!

He can never go back to Russia now. He will be executed for surrendering if he does.

According the the Russian trolls, the Ruble is now the primo currency on Earth and the American dollar is in a free-fall. Of course, if those same trolls were paid in US dollars instead of bum wipe Rubles, they'd all be like Homer Simpson with a winning lottery ticket.
50
Put them to work at de-mining and filling in the trenches.
48
The Russians wanted to join Transnistria up with a conquered southern Ukraine but that plan went bust along with the annexation of Ukraine plan.
44
Life is cheap in Russia.

@usatrooper5045 What's wrong in Russia goes back way before socialism and Communism. It was a shytehole before the Communists took over and you'd have to go back to Ivan the Terrible. Your comment fits the American dialectic, though ... nice and simple ... emphasis on the "simple".

This is hopefully how the Russian Federation will break up into pieces ... Muscovite boys stay home and enjoy their relatively higher prosperity and the ethnic minorities fight in a European war for the rich Muscovite. Moscow and St. Petersburg are nowhere near the gas and oil fields and imagine how prosperous the people from oil country would be if they had their own country?
16
Are they scooping up Muscovite kids or just those from the countryside?
15
Life is cheap, there. Does a Russian family get a loaf of bread instead of an antibiotic? Is the family happy about it?
14
Widespread Fetal Alcohol Syndrome would do that exact thing.
13
The UN stopped working decades ago.
12
What country wants them?
11
Except that they are not paying their soldiers and they hope they'll die before they revolt and demand their pay.
10
It doesn't stop Russian trolls from flooding the Internet, though.
10
@inge-9280 Made him the man he is today .... oh, that and coke.
10
@michaelagbayani4961 At the rate that Ukraine is losing territory, Russia will win sometime in the mid 22nd century.
10
Do they still require that you have four working limbs?
9
"re-arranging the deckchairs on the Titanic..."

The Chinese want that back, and soon. Putin obsesses about an imagined threat from NATO but the real existential threat to Russia is a powerful China that wants Asia back (and that has nothing but disdain for Caucasians).
8
You are spoiled rotten in Canada. I didn't know that they made whine there.
8
... except that didn't happen. Europe didn't freeze, is still rich and it was the poor Russians that froze this winter because of their incompetence.
8
Let's hope the FSB doesn't punish him when he is returned.
8
NATO Nazi cows from OOSA!
8
Yup. You want to turn the clock back 80 years you've got it, Vlad.
7
@PatternResearch A "European recession" is equal to fat imes in piss-poor Russia.
7
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome leaves its victims without empathy. It's a symptom, actually.
7
@loupgarou-dj3tm Vodka is cheap and freely available there for a reason.
7
Let's get them down to zero so that the Russians can no longer blackmail other countries, again. Massive economic calamity in Russia will end this monstrous threat to the World for once and for all.
6
@-kabepugs3009 If the Russians just leave their dead soldiers rotting in the fields, they don't even have to shell out for those. If the families ask them what happened, just tell them: "The Polish NATO Nazis ate them because they are all starving in the West. Ask no more questions, Comrade."
6
What aggressive moves? Transiting international waters is not an "aggressive move". Harassing them when they do is an aggressive move ... piracy, in fact.
6
Ha ha ha we finally see how weak Russia really is.
6
The delusional Russians believe that they are offering negotiations from a position of strength....
6
This one doesn't appear to suffer from the same Fetal Alcohol Syndrome as so many of the other Russian soldiers appear to. Perhaps he is Muslim and his mother didn't drink when she was pregnant.
6
The big, brave tougher-than tough Russian are all victims. VICTIMS!!! ... ...... ..[snicker]
6
Russia managed to keep it afloat by doing things like dumping gold but that won't go on forever. One of the unforeseen consequences of this war is that Russia just alienated their best customers and are left selling dibbles of oil and gas to China, India at bargain basement prices to keep the oil patches going. The pipelines led to Germany, not Asia. Ruble will be rubble for decades.
6
"25 to 30 % percent annually describes our inflation rate pretty accurately lately." I am born, raised in Canada and have lived here for 67. years. The current inflation rate here is 3% to 4% and you are full of nonsense. Don't make a fuss when you leave here.
5
@dylanvogler2165 Offer Belarus EU membership with the stipulation that they dump their dictator and his Russian stooges.
5
It's like "Fox" Russia.
5
I guess that South Africa has just left the World Court treaty. That will eventually catch up with South Africa knowing the sort of political leaders they produce.
5
Ukraine: "With a powerful, well planned, well coordinated special forces raid, we can get hold of a nuclear warhead or two now that they're closer and easier to steal."
5
It's tough when you face an adversary that can shoot back.
5
@1midnightfish Probably the sort of excuse that the Angles, Saxons used when they goose-stepped ashore in 460.
5
It gives the tank a nice 'BOIING!" sound (like a rubber band) as it's going "lollipop".
5
How many countries still allow Russian aircraft in their airspace?
5
@OrbitalTrails That's not what we all saw.
5
@OrbitalTrails Get out of Russia and see what reality really looks like.
5
They could be back in the bosom of Moscow, again! Remember how happy they were, there?
5
@pintiliecatalin Greece joined the NATO alliance in 1952 and they are therefore not reliant on the newcomers that you've listed. Sweden (a major designer/manufacturer of advanced weaponry) controls the Baltic, which is the only safe route into Russia by sea. Sweden is as geographically important as Turkey in containing the Russians. Bulgaria and Romania ... not so much.
