  5. Karelia is inhabited not by Russians but by speakers of Finnic language, usually Finnish (what's a language and what's a dialect for 1000). So their objective was not merely to regain lost territories, but also at least those areas occupied by ethnic Finns. Which used to be Leningrad, before Peter I killed all the locals and built a city there then populating said city with Russians splitting Estonia from Finland (those are mutually intelligible languages because they are both Finnic).

  14.  @bludfyre  Yes, that is part of it. Believe it or not the Germans in 1939 didn't want to go to war. Getting the German populace to actuall go all in on the war was a stepwise process, ever larger commitments. Even then there were plenty of war skeptics. It's basically wishful thinking: Germany could only fight a short sharp decisive war so that was what they prepared for and fought, but then biting off more than they could chew led to history in your time line which i am desperately trying to change oh god they have discovered me no No NO NOOOOOO!!!!!!!! ..

  21. The people who take this view generally do so in order to discredit contemporary social democracy. While it is certainly true that NS Was socialism it must also be understood Why. Why have an entire economy organized around expropriation and redistribution to workers? Why, to reward and motivate them to fight and die in the imperialist war of course! Contemporary imperialism also does this, but less consequently, less brutally, and less effectively. Social democratic redistribution of looted third world wealth absolutely is used to motivate workers to fight for the war machine. I think the answer is to rely on private efforts rather than the state to alleviate poverty, which is a dissatisfactory answer but it's all I've got for you.

  30. Logistics problems are complex but can be solved they are not incalculable. The failure of axis supply networks in the East wasn't due to central planning or a command economy, it was simly due to lack of fuel, lack of roads, and the few roads being dirt tracks. A different rail guage didn't help. So... you get it partly right (lack of fuel) but mostly wrong (at least 22 minutes in). Weather and the absence of roads, and btw very few railroads which used a different guage of track than in the rest of Europe requiring trains to be switched at the border.

  35. The Finnish army definitely reached a "stop line" and did not go further. That stop line was farther east but encompassed ethnic Finns in the USSR. Pan Finnic nationalism could have argued for setting up a pan-Finnic state which would be huge in area and include the Mari people as well as the Estonians. Hitler probably wouldn't have had it. btw... ALL of Russia's neighbors HATE Russia. Fact. ...I wonder why?
