This is a sound argument, I have tried lugging my Celestron 8 in a bergen up a hill. it is hit and miss. The stellina gives a higher degree of portability even at 25lb and you can see how on target you are in the middle of nowhere and still bring raw data back for further processing
3
and you can still take the raw data for furtehr processing such as affinity
3
Not at all, it gives you some advanatge and easier accessibility but if you want quality final output you can still take the raw data and do further processing, Affinity is what I use,.
3
@Scoffslaphead72 Only if you enjoy the porcess, seems a bit of a narrow view of the world, but pay attention, you can take the Stellina raw data and still go through the process. Unless you area flat earther
3
exactly, i have been looking for a travel soloution nad this could be it, I have lumped my celestreon 8 up a hill and it is hit and miss, whereas this looks a solution giving bith immediacy and raw data for further processing later
2
luckily there is a choice
2
another flat earther then
1
what you see as fun may not apply to all, pretty arrogant assumption you are making
1
You can still do this with Stellina raw output
1
It gives both accessibility, and portablity, even at 25lb. and you can still bring back raw data for further processing, I use affinity.
1
@bustedrav too many cables? Power? Physical size?by portability I mean carry it cross country, my fave so far is the Meade 80. The elephant in the room though is the post processing, dont want to do it, dont have any desire to do it, however when I want to I can as an option
1
what about those of who want a portable more predictable platform? especially for travel
1
wrong, you can still take the raw data and process it, and yes, it is disrespectful to state that only your view of the world is the right view, get a life mate.

As a newbie to this I have no baggage but this seems to be about new technology. When I took up playing the guitar the negativity I came across from old school was often melodramatic. I even had a comment that a particular guitar (Gibson J45) could only be a particular colour or it isnt authentic. The Stellina seems to be attracting the same negativity and it seems there will always be people who do not like change. The Stellina seems to be a another version of a GoTo function, just a little more slick. The advatage seems to be you get both worlds: you get immediate photo output as well as raw data that you can take away and still go thorugh the long hand chore of further processing. The main hook from me, and I have ordered one, is it gives me more travel opportunites depsite its weight!! I can go ot the middle of nowhere, take shots, and still bring back data for further processing. I do not see the need for some of the negativity here.

utter bollocks
1
missing the point, it offers a degree of flexibility the buscuit muncher hasnt
1
missding the point and you need to show some imagination
1
but not protable, more prone to error, and some people see post processing as a barrier, maybe they shouldnt have any fun at all then? If you were paying attention you can stll take raw data and process as normal, if hours staring at a laptop is normal though
1
grow up
1
you are missing the point
1
you need to pay attention, its a slicker goto, but you still have to take the raw data for firther processing beyond its standard output.
1
missingthe point
1
yes it does, you are not paying attention.
1
You are missing the point, it has pros and cons, but to suggest this is utter bollocks
1
its not aimed at you then is it, think about, your definition of fun is not everybodys
1
you are not comparing like with like then
1
yet another flat earther then..........
1
missing the point pay attention
1
your insults are duly noted
1
which you can still do, pay attention.
1
You should set up a camp then and send thiose that disagree to them for re-education
1
you can still take the raw data and process, no difference, and what you call heart and soul is seen by others as a chore and a barrier.
1
You need to broaden your hoizons and get out more
1
no you can still pull off the raw data and process, pay attention
1
But if you take the raw data from Stellina and process it..............
1
@mycarolinaskies wrong, you need to be more honest and pay attention to detail
1
You are missing the point, pay attention
1
you are clearly not paying attention, it offers access to all raw data for further processing if wanted
1
missing the point
1
Its not, pay attention
1
@christoph4977 Are we comparing like for like here? I dont think so. The Stellina is a different proposition, I do not think it is competing with the traditional set up. Both solutions can use post processing to enhance the shot, no difference. There are a number of us who see nofun in hours of laptop post processing anyway. But the way this rig is set up, used to identify and then track an object seems identical. From a straight observing perspective I think the Stellina wins hands down. For a lot of people this is what they are into astronomy for.
1
missing the point
1
Why? I do not think the Stellina is offering this function only. Are we missing the point here? The impression I have is the Stellina offers a flexible approach hence the costs. Not everybody wants to sit on a laptop for hours post process.
1
@Astrobiscuit look at the trouble you have caused :) Not only have i spent hours on a laptop defending the Stellina, I have probably reduced the number of xmas party invitations post pandemic. Can I suggest you do more to look at the post processing you can do with Stellina? My reason for buying this, thanks to you by the way, is flexibility, accessibility, and portability. Upon reflection I wouldnt see the vid as comparing like for like.
1
pay attention you are missing the point
1
for gawds sake indeed, you are missingf the point and doing the biscuit muncher and injustice
1
And you still can with the Stellina
1
@Astrobiscuit this is true but doesnt have to be the only game in town. Its like saying if you do not enjoy sitting in front of a laptop for hours you wiull not enjoy astrophotography !!
1
@salicyl3350 you caan still take and process the raw data
1
I think the only drawback that needs looking at is the operating temperature range (0-40)
