I can’t recall what class she did this for, but I wound up going with her to a Fashion Institute of Technology event on cars like this as well as car interior’s with fasionable designers, including matching outfits. Because who doesn’t want to match their car’s bench seat?😅

  6. I think going by the percentage of where the parts come from and the location of the factory. Last year’s top 5 based on that were: 1 Tesla Model 3 (Fremont, Calif.) 2 Ford Mustang (Flat Rock, Mich.) 3 Tesla Model Y (Fremont, Calif.) 4 Jeep Cherokee (Belvidere, Ill.) 5 Chevrolet Corvette (Bowling Green, Ky.) Sounds great, 3 iconic cars, and 2 Teslas, the cars of the future. But then the next 5 6 Honda Ridgeline (Lincoln, Ala.) 7 Honda Odyssey (Lincoln, Ala.) 8 Honda Pilot (Lincoln, Ala.) 9 Honda Passport (Lincoln, Ala.) 10 Toyota Tundra (San Antonio, Texas) 4 Hondas and a Toyota, “Japanese” cars made in America.

  7. Congrats Ed, my dad found your channel because he grew up in the Muscle Car era. He and my uncle were gearheads and in the early 1970s my dad owned a ‘67 GTO. Sadly the gas crisis forced him to sell it (GTO= Gas, Tires, Oil), then he had a few Chevy Malibus, the family car when I was a kid was an ‘80 Malibu Classic with a V6, and could I still fix something like that now, probably. He currently owns a 22 year old Chevy Cavalier, so he’s adapted to new engine tech nicely. My uncle is still into older cars, he had an Olds 442 convertible and a ‘34 Ford for a long while.

  10.  @Rob.DB.  She got on A on her paper for it, and it was fun seeing all the cars. Some had a lot of extra things like a picnic kit that didn’t take up a lot of space in the trunk. Others did try to add make up kits like the original La Femme.

  16. Most brands moving to China are doing it to cut the cost of importing and shipping the car overseas, for the Asian markets. That savings is passed on to the customers to entice them to buy that brand. (This is why Tesla built a new factory in Shanghai, and repeated this in Germany for the European market.)

  19. Well it’s an entire rebuild of everything under the truck (battery, traction motors, new suspension because those batteries are heavy and the balance of the truck changes from no longer having that hunk of iron under the hood), vs. just rebuilding the motor.

I might be more USA-centric here… 1960s: you could also say the VW mini-bus, or Pontiac GTO (small car+big engine craze started there) 1980s: Honda Civic (it may have had different names) these things were everywhere, like the Beetle 2000s: sad and unfortunate: Hummer H2, it just made more people want even bigger SUVs. 2010s: that was when more people got into hybrids like the Prius and the Chevy Volt. 2020s: Tesla Model 3, a lower cost Tesla really expanded the market for EVs. Overall though: Volkswagen wins because you did find them everywhere (Beetles or mini-busses)

  24. If you’re familiar with American TV you may have heard of Bob Vila. He started of on the TV series This Old House where they renovate old houses. He moved on to start his own show with a similar concept, but he also talked tools, home repair and espoused his ideas about what works and what doesn’t. He once said something to the effect of: “if a pickup truck bed can’t hold a full size sheet of plywood, it’s not really a pickup truck.” A full size sheet of plywood is 4 feet wide and 8 feet long! That’s not going to fit in most modern pickups! (Even the Cybertruck bed is only 4 feet by 6 feet.)

  27. Chrysler in this decade was pretty reliably… terrible. My girlfriend back then had family members that owned a PT Cruiser and someone with a Plymouth Prowler. Brand new the car interior was already falling apart.

  29. The GTA games play with mashing real cars together to make something else, sometimes it looks great, and sometimes it looks just awful. (Example: the Infernus mashes together at least 2 Lamborghinis up front, and Pagani (specifically the exhust) and a Spyker in the rear.)

My uncle leased a Ford Explorer, and got talked into getting the higher priced “Eddie Bauer Edition” I’m not sure if that included the worst suspension ever or not, but the ride in that thing was terrible (every little defect in the road, and you’d feel like the thing was driving down a staircase!)

  31. Funny enough, when GM decided to reboot the Pontiac GTO, they rebadged a Holden Monaro SS… and it didn’t really sell because it didn’t look like a GTO but more like a giant new Firebird (this was before the retro design era.)

  36. For safety reasons fuzzy dice, or anything that hangs off the rear view mirror or windshield is illegal in most places. The thinking is that stuff blocks your vision while driving.

  37. San Diego auto museum had a mid-50s Cadillac convertible that was 5.94m (19.5 feet) long, and at least 2m wide, water seal the bottom of the car, add an anchor and you just bought yourself a boat.

  38.  @augustneverends  in the 90s I knew someone whose mom had a Plymouth hatchback k-car. That had a few small issues, but died suddenly and violently when the transmission imploded.

  39. I mean, GM had to prop them up by closing down Oldsmobile, which had also tried to shed their “old man car” image with cars like the Alero…. Did not help that they ran ads saying, “It’s not your dad’s Oldsmobile, which turned off a bunch of older fans of the company.

How about an episode on the Fiat 124 and it’s communist cousin (the Vaz-2101, aka a Lada Riva) that were built behind the Iron Curtain (not a re-badge as the designs were modified to better run in harsh conditions and on bad roads. That’s to Vaz the 124 is the second most produced car ever with over 17 million units built (the VW Beetle production figures are over 21 million, nothing will ever touch either them (probably).

  43. Here in the US, Mercedes ran ads where Santa and his 8… Reindeer? All drove fast Mercedes coupes in formation, Santa’s was red, and the other 8 were silver. Honestly, I think Santa would be better off driving one of those heavily modified buses they run in Churchill Canada to take tourists out to the Polar Bears who are waiting for the ice to form on the Hudson Bay so they can go seal hunting before winter really kicks in. That thing needs to withstand a very hungry BEAR, so it must be very rugged.

  47. My father worked with a guy from the USSR in the 2000s. He told stories about USSR car ads for the Victory (Pobeda) where it would race a BMW and win every time. These ads made him want to buy… a BMW!😂 He actually did buy one over here, but it was a lemon.
