I mean both the Mayor and the Governor are swearing up and down we won’t have another lockdown… and hopefully we will continue to go back to normal soon (aka, masking on the subway will end… about half the people I’m seeing on the trains aren’t bothering with the masks anyway, and there’s zero enforcement as far as I can tell.)

That slanted wall (next to the door to the private roof) makes laying out the living room a challenge, unless you can find a triangular entertainment center that matches the angle.
1
The service hallways in these buildings always look like that set in the 2nd Matrix film with all the doors that let you skip to other places.
1
There’s a rule against bringing toy weapons on airplanes, so that camera blower could have looked like a toy bomb.
1
@ZachsCooking the mayor keeps telling them to bring their workers back because it leaves midtown mostly dead and that’s killing all the places that support office workers like lunch places, restaurants for workers that get dinner before heading home, etc
1
Last time I passed that cube it was all blocked off with barriers… I’m guessing years of people messing with it, plus rain, snow, ice, just destroyed the bearing that is somewhere under it that let it spin… guess it was cheaper to add that cradle than dismantle it and replace the bearing. Shame, it was fun to spin it.
1
LG actually stopped making cellphones a year or so ago.
1
Teeny sinks in the baths, and no guest bathroom in the common space… those speakers might be for music, like a built in Sonos or something.
1
It’s not “like a swamp” it WAS a swamp that some fool filled in and tried to build on… it didn’t work but these residents have to suffer the consequences.
1
$6 for hotel water… try $8 for a smaller bottle of Voss in Boston, yeah, we went out and bought water instead. Meanwhile in London, UK they had free bottled water, AND sparkling water, kept cold in a mini fridge under the TV, and they happily refilled it every day.
1
Bay Ridge is south of 60th Street-ish. That tiny house on the big set back… I’m pretty sure the owners just rent the whole thing out, but it’s like a loft inside.
1
Prospect Park was designed by the same landscape architects as Central Park. That box in the closet next to the bathroom is a tankless water heater, it’s able to give instant hot water, which is nice on a cold day.
1
All those vending machines and even with the advent of tap to pay, it’s gotta be an army of people collecting the money and restocking the machines.
1
@notbill08 exactly it’s like Europe, but it’s weird seeing that in NYC
1
Old school New York, I’m pretty sure this is converted townhouse and carriage house, but it’s probably been renovated so many times over the years that there’s not much original stuff left.
1
For that much, tack on a 3rd bedroom and put a stand up shower in the 2nd bathroom. I don’t drive so no need for the parking spot. Storage unit could be useful, bit of hike to the train, but this looks like a brand new building, so it should be free of any problems.
1
I want that long roller slide here, it would be fun to go on with my daughter! There’s a conveyor belt sushi place in the food court at the Queens Center Mall.
1
Bad guys don’t carry weapons in bags… they keep them in pockets, or their waistband. So until the cops can somehow convince the Federal courts to make Stop and Frisk okay again, this is just lipstick on a pig.
1
I’m not sure about the layout, the original columns and beams are cool, but they’re also in the middle of the hallway? Would have been nicer if they were integrated into a wall.
1
Would be great… if it wasn’t a walk up. As you know Cash, kids and their stuff is a pain to carry up and down stairs.
1
The blocked windows are a sign that the building next door was replaced by something taller at some point.
1
When I first met my wife she was in a studio with a “kitchen” that had that exact setup of mini-fridge, microwave and toaster oven. The sink was an old bathroom vanity. She did have a decent sized bathroom, and a closet.
1
Really nice… but 1 more bedroom and it would be better.
1
Really nice layout for the space, odd to have doors between the main hallway and the bathroom hallway. Where are all the people? They seemed to be between 52nd and 42nd between 5th and 6th, at least on Friday when I took my daughter to see the tree and the Christmas market in Bryant Park.
1
Second one had a hidden toilet, and the last one had a hidden sink… why all the walls?
1
That price is totally because of the roof and the neighborhood, without in unit laundry, that’s a four floor workout at least once a week.
1
Faster than traffic, but probably still not faster than bike messengers on their non-electric bikes. Those guys just fly around the city.
1
I’m used to sleeping in total darkness, so I couldn’t even figure out how to put blackout drapes in that top bedroom, looks like whomever is up there will need good quality eye masks.
1
Violet is learning about real estate.
1
That old studio that’s now the roof deck… back when it was a studio it looks like you basically had to live outside most of the time if you wanted any space. That’s great on nice days… not so great when it rains… or during winter.
1
That first one got flooded, the waterline was still visible in the basement.
1
Blinds-to-Go will love this place.
1
You can always get a big rolling kitchen cart.
1
That building with the smoke stack was the original power station for the IRT subway going up the west side… I think.
1
$200 more and no laundry? No thanks. Edit: The kitchens are the same size, but in the balcony unit it’s not an open layout with the breakfast bar, so the extra wall makes it feel smaller.
1
Rent to own is good… if the contract is written fairly for the buyer… otherwise you’re paying that rent for a loooooong time… I was curious what space those stairs to the roof in the penthouse ate up compared to the 4th floor unit… guessing it was that laundry room and that penthouse unit probably has the laundry in a bathroom?
1
That balcony door needs to open inwards, otherwise you can’t have much out there since the door would swing into it all the time.
1
“Beverage” coolers seem to be the new thing to tack extra onto the rent, and they’re wedging them into anyplace they can! Last place was interesting, but the staircase up pretty much ate all the living room.
1
2 kitchen sinks but no dishwasher? I have seen houses where the island has a smaller utility sink for like washing veggies before you chop them, then a large sink along the wall for cleaning dishes, or filling up a pot with water for cooking pasta.
1
That home office space could also fit a small pull out couch or futon for guests.
1
Guess you couldn’t say it, but that’s Trump World Tower (there is nothing that tall in that part of town), and in my head I’m thinking this was Derek Jeter’s apartment 😂
1
That top level has been mostly empty forever… used to visit the in-laws using NJT.
1
I mean, there was talk of the city going into a downward spiral with no end in the 1970s, and we came back anyway.
1
The only real Blockbuster Video left is in Bend, Oregon (there were 2 others in Alaska, but they closed down.)
1
Native New Yorker here: I’m with what Mick Jagger said at the concert for 9/11, “You don’t f—k with New York.” I take the subway every day… I took it home Tuesday.. had to detour from the 6 to the 7 at Grand Central to the E at Roosevelt Avenue to get back to Forest Hills because all the other lettered lines were stuck or rerouted, but people were on the trains.
1
It’s awesome, but if I had that kind of money, I’d be looking for a house just to get that little bit extra privacy.
1
2:45, that’s the ventilation tower for the Holland Tunnel.
1
The only thing I can think of for that skylight in the basement is it’s the egress window so it technically can be a bedroom, but how do you get up to it in an emergency?
1
That last one with the weird door to outside, but 10 feet below the stree, what even is the point of that?
1
That office area, an odd use of the space. This is near my daughter’s pediatrician, but it’s only a 1 bedroom.
