@re-vitiligo They are fighting for the US.
23
Germany was forced by US to disassociate from Russia. Germany gave up on its national interest. As for US pushing for reducing emissions, the US blew up Nordstream and huge amounts of methane was released. Germany and Europe have committed economic suicide.
22
No more news about ATACAMS and Storm Shadow missiles, that were going to change the scene. Already forgotten for new diversions.
22
Situation 'indescribably difficult' - means Ukraine is losing although we believe it is winning.
22
When Lithuania eventually gets the beating, it will find the mutual defence team does not want to die for Lithuanians.
21
Russia never said they will take Kiev in 3 days. That was said by some US general and quoted and twisted into a Russian statement. Russia does not announce war plans, time scales etc. The west does that.
20
If you are not ready to send troops to Ukraine and face getting killed, you should not have encouraged Ukraine to fight in the first place. NATO said at the beginning of the offensive that Ukraine had 98% of what it asked for, so where did you get the figure of 1/3.
20
Can you show us pictures of the military targets that were razed ?
19
On the one hand you claim NATO is not at war with Russia; but you want Ukraine to strike Russia. Then why should not Russia strike NATO directly or indirectly ?
19
That is right, the Russians don't speak too much, they just do. The Ukranians - and the western media - choose their words to paint pictures.
19
Zelensky wanted to negotiate and settle it in Turkey, but that famous partner, Biden's errand boy BoJo was sent to Kiev to tell him to continue fighting and the west would back him till victory. Zelensky is angry as he perceives the west let him down and is abandoning Ukraine, but he has to be careful about criticising his 'partners' openly (in 2023, he was told to show gratitude and NATO was not an Amazon service for arms).
18
@h0mo3rectus69 Besides giving up nuclear weapons, there was a second condition attached to Ukraine's independence - it gave a pledge that it would be neutral and not join any anti-Russian alliance. It flouted that by clamouring to bring a nuclear power, the US, into Ukraine, to set up bases. Therefore Ukraine's independence is cancelled.
18
@abba-Flammenfresser Why is Ukraine now blabbering about drone attacks and destruction of power installations ? Why has NATO not sent troops to Ukraine if you or so confident ?
18
So what is the extent of Russian advances ? I did not gain much insight on that. Conolly is blabbering about UK lifting restrictions. Russia has told British targets will be hit and the Russians don't bluff.
18
Sovereignty does not give the right to invite a far off superpower to threaten the neighbouring superpower. If you do that, pay the consequences. The sovereign nation should find its weapons to fight its own wars. Get it ?
17
Once Ukraine sold itself to the US after the 2014 coup, it did not have the freedom to decide what is best for it. The US decided according to what is best for the US.
17
The US defence industry is profit centred, it gouges the US taxpayer and makes its products as expensive as well. They thrive on war as business. Expanding NATO was for that. Russian defence industry is govt. owned and exists to defend Russia. They can ramp up when there is a national need.
17
It is better for you to believe he is a madman, for if you took him seriously and took up the challenge on the Oreshnik, you would lose and become mad. You know that you have nothing to intercept it with.
17
Ukraine has no choice but to trade territories for peace. More than territories, Ukraine has to give a guarantee that there will be no NATO bases in Ukraine. That was Russia's primary aim, not land. The land got acquired as that was the only way to enforce the demand that Ukraine not allow its land to be used by the US to threaten Russia.
16
Ukranian independence was conditional on giving up the nuclear weapons. Then what is your point. Another condition for independence was Ukraine would be neutral. Ukraine tried to flout that. The Budapest Memorandum concludes that in the event of a dispute, all four parties would confer and negotiate. Putin asked for a security guarantee, why did the US not negotiate and give it ? When Russia and Ukraine negotiated in Turkey, why did Boris and Biden sabotage ? So you flouted the Budapest Memorandum. Ukraine will not exist and correctly so.
16
@a0flj0 Thank you for explaining the theory of air defence - and how to over come them. 'Kyiv in particular is a large, widely spread out city - the densely populated part of the city, fully occupied by buildings, is over 100 square kilometers. It's difficult to defend this entire area, when you don't have enough equipment.' When you cannot make the equipment, and your handlers cannot supply enough air defence equipment, and the other side has the capability to find a way through with saturation and overload, or with hypersonics, then why did you choose to fight ? Why was Ukraine and the western media telling all along that Ukraine is shooting down 95% of the missiles and any damage was due to debris ? Ukraine should have stayed neutral and not have believed the US had the equipment in quality and quantity to beat Russia. Forethought is always better than afterthought.
16
Will costly sanctions last as long as the war in Ukraine? The question itself means there is doubt that the west can support Ukraine. Does anyone remember that the cooperation between states was actually broken due to the west expanding NATO to its borders ?Why did NATO not give Russia the security guarantee it asked ?
16
Saying Russia bombed its own pipeline is like saying Russia shelled the nuclear plant in Zaphorizha which it now owns. Sabotage would be Ukraine or Poland.
16
Himars, Atacams, were destroyed by the Russians. Like the Leopards and Challengers. The Germans don't want to give the Taurus because they know the Russians will destroy them.
16
@Jg32234 NATO has nothing to boast about as it is a loser ! It did boast about Finland and Sweden joining, as if two weaklings made it stronger.
16
If you do not have 155 mm shells, why did you encourage Ukraine to fight Russia ?
16
@Hasanaljadid The German container shipping company Hapag Lloyd wanted to avoid sending goods to the Israeli port of Eilat, so the Houthis would not attack them. That was the condition the Houthis laid for transit of Hapag Lloyd's container ships through the Red Sea - boycott Eilat port. Hapag Lloyd was ready to comply as a business decision, but The German govt. threatened them with some anti-semitism law - boycotting Israel is verboten even if it is a business decision. So Hapag Lloyd cannot use the Red Sea and the Suez, their ships have to go round Africa to reach Germany and other EU ports. Meanwhile Chinese ships agreed to boycott Eilat, so the Houthis gave them free passage through the Red Sea. Trade between Germany and China costs much more if shipped with German container ships compared with Chinese ships. Lufthansa was forced to cancel flights to Tel Aviv. Supporting Israel also promotes German decline.
16
@thegreatdane3627 The Russians were lenient, they should have done this in the first week. But it is never too late. Why are the Ukranians crying now ?
15
DW did not shown the pain in Gaza to attract your attention. Why this sentimentality for Ukraine only ?
15
Ukraine does not have right to Russian areas like Donbass, Odessa etc. This was gifted to Ukraine, and since Ukraine started misbehaving against Russia, Russia has right to ask for their return. The Ukranians also do not have right to put US bases in Ukraine to threaten Russia. In that case, Russia has right to eliminate Ukraine completely.
15
Keep hoping. When the Himars came, Zelensky said in Sept. 2022 that he would take Crimea by Dec. 2022. If the west tries too hard, then Ukraine will be hit by a tactical nuclear weapon. Then it will be unconditional surrender.
15
As a Swede, there are plenty of other things to be ashamed about as well ! You can reduce your Swedish shame by sending troops to Ukraine. Show the Russians.
15
Thank you Russia, and Turkey. Let us hope devious Ukraine does not back stab and play games for NATO as it has been doing for years. Russia is allowing Ukraine to make some money when they had the power to strangle Ukraine completely. Turkey has played a much better role than the Europeans to bring the two sides together. The difference is the Europeans have become door mats of the US, and have shown enmity to Russia, so they have no leverage with Russia. Turkey has kept its door open to both Ukraine and Russia and has been far cleverer than the Europeans.
15
As for Europeans complaining now about US bullying, the Europeans were happy to go along and assist the US in invading Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Palestine. Indeed, they felt pride in assisting the US. Let the US take Greenland, and let Russia take some more of Europe. The Europeans were invading countries in the world for 500 years, so let them have a taste of invasions.
15
The interviewer says : you have been singing the same song for some months - more heavy weapons faster. Yet, what is going on ? On reconstruction, it is not possible without Russian permission. Russia will only give permission if Ukraine signs neutrality and keeps NATO out. Russia has taken 20%, they can keep attacking the rest sporadically and no one will come for reconstruction. The reconstruction conference is just vain posturing by the west to show support for Ukraine to cover up the loss of face due to defeat. Incidentally, why did the west not hold similar reconstruction conference for Iraq and Afghanistan ? Oh, I forget, our side vandalised them.
14
There is no evidence of sabotage, but somehow we need to change the narrative and put it on Russia. In 2022, Lithuania tried to blockade Russian trains to Kaliningrad stating EU sanctions - till a Russian politician said Lithuania's independence should be reconsidered.
14
The DW analysis is a bit shallow. Russia has single handedly ended the 'rules based international order' which the west knitted to benefit itself and which it flouted when inconvenient. Russia's steps to cut energy to Europe is de-industrialising Germany and Europe. Russia has triggered de-dollarisation. In the long run, that will reduce the value of the dollar, and with that comes the end of US hegemony. Iraq was invaded because Saddam sold oil in euros instead of dollars. The rest of the world is seeking alternatives to the western banking system. Now Russia is selling oil to India without dollars. Russia is selling oil in yuan to China. So is Iran. Saudis are thinking of selling oil to China in yuan. If two countries are trading and the US is not involved, then there is no need to use dollars. These two key points were not discussed. Thank you Russia for ending the western manipulated world order !
14
Ukraine will be joining Russia, so forget about joining the west.
14
@_Twink 'if countries committed to a little more up front, costing a lot less down the line.' Don't come out with 'if only...' when defeated. You are defeated, you should never have pushed Ukraine to fight Russia. You should have encouraged them to stay neutral.
14
@Alexandrinka You destroy Russia's prosperity by constantly waging war against it.
14
Leyen complains China is not neutral. Germany and EU are not neutral either. Then who is she to complain others should be neutral ?
14
One last ditch effort before facing the reality of unconditional surrender terms.
14
Zelenksy told us 2 months ago that Russia had ammo only for 3 days. Western media was also saying similar. Who is striking Odessa then ? Is NATO arming the Russians ? Or the Ukranians doing it themselves ?
14
I note the change in tone of the DW reporter. We hear less about Ukranian victory. There is still the customary reference to Ukranian resilience, but now there is a question posed about how long the Ukranians can put up with the misery.
14
@carlosr944 Afghanistan. Overthrowing governments including the one in Ukraine in 2014.
14
This is the price for fighting Russia. The EU and UK agreed for US led NATO expansion. No energy leads to high costs and prices = factory closures. Not only VW, but BASF. And they want to fight China for the US.
13
@jensstergard9380 The Ukrainian army has lost, the counter offensive was a flop, western equipment was useless, there were no game changers. The Russians minced the Ukranian army that was trained by the west for the counter offensive. Ukraine is not getting back the oblasts it lost and more will go. The west cannot afford to maintain Ukraine and does not have the guts to go and fight. By now, you should know who is mighty, Russia or NATO.
13
Your solutions are long term. Before that, you must stay alive before the solutions come into play. No one stays alive who fights Russia.
13
Did Zelensky not say this amount is only a 1/4 of his needs ?
13
So you declared Ukranians are Europeans - as if Europeans are special. The Europeans have fought the most barbaric and uncivilised wars.
