  1. If the Ukranian casualties are correct, it is condemnable that the west urged Ukraine to mount this Kherson offensive to make them more eligible for continuing western aid. The westerner leaders are having the Ukranians massacred instead of negotiating a settlement, just out of false pride. It is sick and horrible.

  2.  @michaeloravez2066  Don't twist things. Putin asked for a security guarantee and a peace treaty. The US declined. Then Russia said it will go ahead with a technical military operation to ensure US bases were not placed in Ukraine in the eventuality it joined NATO. Ukraine had the opportunity to remain neutral. It declined and sought NATO membership and indulged in Russophobia, thinking the US and NATO would protect it. Ukraine sent 5000 troops to support US and NATO in Afghanistan. Why ? It hoped that would help entrance into NATO. Then NATO should have reciprocated and sent troops to Ukraine to fight Russia. Instead, Biden and NATO announced they will not send ground troops. It is sick and horrible that the US and NATO after encouraging Ukraine with the possibility of joining NATO, left them in the lurch and did not send troops to Ukraine. Instead, the west is cynically sending weapons and asking the Ukrainians to get massacred indefinitely. Why has the west not negotiated an end to end Ukraine's misery ?

  3. You have been reporting on Bakhmut for weeks. It was not in the usual media channels. However, two days ago, in the BBC, there was a report on attack on Bakhmut. The reporter, Orla Guerin, looked and sounded very glum and despondent. From her tone, I could see loss of Bakhmut was anticipated. The BBC is preparing its viewers for the news on the possiblity of loss of Bakhmut. All this time, they had their viewers elated by stories of Ukraine getting back Crimea.

  4. The Ukranians announced they are raising a 1 million army to recapture the southern lands and Kherson. It could be a tactic to influence the Kherson referendum as Alex says. It could also be a tactic to keep western donors interested in continuing their aid. The moment donors start feeling it is a losing business, they may cut their losses and abandon Ukraine.

Italy can make shoes, some fashion, luxury cars, cheese and agricultural products. Russia can launch space vehicles, hypersonic missiles, planes, ships, metals and alloys including titanium, and gold, it is the country with the complete nuclear fuel supply chain, it has oil and gas, it makes fertiliser, and is the largest producer of wheat. Italy and nobody in Europe can do that. Russia is self sufficient which Italy and Europe are not.

Russia has destroyed the power grid, reducing Ukraine's ability to fight. Ukraine's shipping lanes are closed. It can export some grain because Putin gave permission (the President of the African Union appealed to Putin). Further, Russia's offensive has re-started, they are after Bakhmut. Ukraine's counter offensive has petered out. Russia withdrew from Kherson and then shelled it from the other bank and made Kherson unlivable. Some weeks back they said Ukraine's war damages are $ 700 billion and this will keep going up and cross 1 trillion. No one has the that sort of money to rebuild Ukraine. Besides, Ukraine cannot be rebuilt without Russian permission. Russia is an essential part of Ukraine's fate.

It is common for westerners to say 'we overestimated Russia's power thinking it is like the Soviet Union, but their conduct of the war has shown feeble they are'. I tell them, alright, if Russia is so feeble, why are Finland and Sweden clamouring to join NATO ? Disband NATO if Russia is feeble.

  21. I read somewhere in the western media that Ukraine had entered Crimea for their independence day. That seemed odd and very dramatic considering I read the Ukranians were unable to reach even the first line of the Russian defence. It seems the entry into Crimea was a one day symbolic media invasion for their independence day. It is not in the media anymore.

  22.  @110Bradford  In business, often people pour money into a company that has been losing. But the losses continue but eventually someone takes the action to close the company. Likewise in such situations. It takes longer in political issues because of false pride and the inability to admit defeat. But eventually, the business factor acts here also. In the Afghan war, the US decided they could not afford the war - after 20 years. Someone took the action based on purely business terms - it was a waste of money when America has ageing infrastructure. Someone will realise that Ukraine cannot win, it is a waste of money, and the west cannot afford the energy crunch and the economic fallout. The false pride factor is because the west encouraged Ukraine with promise of NATO induction, and pronounced at the outset Putin cannot be allowed to stop it. Either Germany will stand up or if Americans feel the economic pinch, they might tone down their Ukraine support.

  27. Kiev did not decide on Kursk, its handlers in the US and UK decided and advised them to do it, and gave all the support. As they saw that Ukraine could not hold on to Donbass, they told them to create this diversion to uphold western support and money flow. Just like they pressured them to do the 2023 counter offensive. The attack on Kursk is senseless militarily, as the Ukranian forces are thinned down even more and it is not sustainable.

  29. When the US withdrew from Kabul, it did not consult UK or EU NATO members, as it saw no need to inform these vassals. The US scooted and took the first flights out. There was some criticism in the UK with MP Tobias Elwood (currently an enthusiast for fighting Russia) lamenting the US was undermining western credibility.

  44. The two Anglo Saxon powers have inflicted tragedies on Muslim nations (Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya). Now they have inflicted the same on the Russians - and the Ukranians. The US organised the Ukranian coup in 2014 which ushered Ukro Nazis to take power. The Russians and Ukranians have the same religion and culture, but the Anglo Saxon powers are experts at sowing discord. They find some discontented elements and incite them - as they did in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Americans did not like the British who always tried to show they were ahead of everyone in sending weapons. The British were proudly boasting how they were the first to send tanks, and how they forced America to agree to Abrams. The sort of clients the US wants is Poland, Baltics and Ukraine.

Don't speak on behalf of the world. China, India, Turkey, Arabs, African nations and South America have business as usual, or even better business with Russia. Ukraine violated international law by reneging on the commitment to neutrality given in its independence declaration. Russia would not have given it independence otherwise. Hence, Russia has taken corrective action to preserve its security by cancelling Ukraine's independence. The same will apply to Lithuania. Its independence was conditional and there was a treaty to allow transit to Kaliningrad. That Lithuania is part of EU and is following some EU agreement does not annul its agreement with Russia. If Lithuania violates that, then it will get a beating at some time in the future. Article 5 is not going to stop Russia. NATO is US and the US does not want WW 3 for Lithuania. The US does not its cities wiped out. You talk like a weak European trying to act as if you are a power.

It is the Anglo Saxons to maintain the morale of the western public who has been led to believe the Russian army is useless and Ukraine will defeat them due to western weapons. Western politicians need to do maintain optical illusions for their public and their own credibility.
