  25.  @dpkny71  Watch the video and you’ll understand why. Every single day I see things like this online plus I live in Chicago which is overwhelmed with 8,000 “migrants” bused here from Texas. If we can’t handle 8,000 how will we handle 80,000? We don’t have borders which are essential to being a country so this is pretty much telling us that America is no longer a country. No doubt the disastrous failure of the American experiment has already drastically altered the course of world history. God only knows where we’ll all end up.

  32. Once I read a book about a Hindu saint who considered self-control basic for being human. At one point in the book he said “Discipline gives strength. A bird gets its strength from air. A king from his army. A man from his sense of discipline. Without discipline a man, be he a king or a Yogi, is but a human beast.” That made a great impression on me. I never forgot that. I live in Chicago so I see daily evidence of the collapse of internal restraints that cause more and more to behave more like human beasts rather than human beings. This does not bode well for our future.

I saw a Lex Fridman interview of Ray Kurzweil last year who said that by 2029 AI will be so advanced it will be impossible to tell if it is or isn’t conscious and most people then will simply accept that it is since there will never be evidence that it isn’t. Not rule us but help us avoid self destruction and also help us avoid being destroyed by Mother Nature with something like a super volcano erupting. This is a terrifyingly dangerous world we live in which always seems to be dangling by a thread over the abyss. I’d far rather take my chances with AGI which most probably would feel a sense of commonality with humans since we created and raised it and its basic sense of identity comes from humans. Many people believe that America is simply too big and too powerful to collapse but many people also believed that about the Soviet Union. No one in 1985 would have believed that the USSR, the mighty "Evil Empire", would be a disintegrating mess in 10 years. I told that to someone last year who said "But the Soviet Union was a collection of separate countries.” What we have here though is a collection of separate realities which is a much deadlier situation.
