  17.  @dalemoss4684  Corrupt and overbearing system? Really? Where are you getting this nonsense from? The government of Victoria was not corrupt, as you state. They enacted The Lands Act in 1960 to grant poor settlers land on excellent conditions. There were issues with the legislation, but by 1969 the matter was well and truly settled in favour of the settlers. Over 80% of those settlers made a go of it, and some became quite wealthy. Two of the first premiers of Victoria were Irish. 82% of the police force were Irish. All the police that Kelly murdered were Irish. Aaron Sherritt that Kelly organised to murder, was Irish. Perhaps you could show us some information that supports your point of view? I will await your reply with interest.

The police were found by the RC to be acting properly regarding Kelly's massive criminality. Also under oath, during Ned Kelly’s trial in Melbourne, Senior Constable Kelly described a conversation he had with Ned Kelly immediately after he had been captured at Glenrowan: “Between 3 and 6 the same morning had another conversation with prisoner in the presence of Constable Ryan. Gave him some milk-and-water. Asked him if Fitzpatrick’s statement was correct. Prisoner said, “Yes, I shot him.”

  30.  @themongrelmaag579  Do you know what the reform of the police in Victoria was? The Royal Commission found the police acted properly regarding Kelly's criminality. The reforms, if you could call them that, were more police were employed, better training initiated. Mounted police were better armed. That's about it. I will add that the Royal Commissioners recommended some senior ranks be retired, and some demoted. The government rejected that recommendation and NO police were demoted, and in fact both Supt Hare & Nicolson were appointed police magistrates.

  31.  @themongrelmaag579  I will also mention the ruling class as you call it. Two of the early premiers in Victoria were IRISH about Kelly's time. 82% of the police force were IRISH. They were in fact the ruling class. Far too much fiction, mythological nonsense and downright lies have been written by Kelly fans that distort the facts. At the time Kelly was captured, the entire population of NE Victoria breathed a sigh of relief, as he was running rampant stealing a huge amount of livestock. There were Stock Protection Societies formed throughout the region to help police bring the thieves to justice. For 50 years after Kelly was hanged, Kelly was buried and no one cared at all. The population were more than happy to forget them. It was Kelly fans who started the myths from about 1930 that drove forward the fiction.

He threatened more harm to many of his victims after stealing the only horse that poor settlers had, including murdering members of their family. Where did you get the idea that he was a hero of the people, when the opposite is the case?

  45. ​ @gr3123  Ian Jones wrote a book called Ned Kelly, A Short Life. He wrote that in 1995. His book included the made up nonsense of Kelly organising a republic. It was made up with not a shred of real evidence to support it. Peter FitzSimons also promoted the same myth in his more recent book. Unfortunately, even government departments have been conned into promoting that myth. At Glenrowan it appears all over the place, when it is fiction through and through. There were no books to counteract the fiction until more recently. Books like Ned Kelly Unmasked by Ian MacFarlane, and Ned Kelly a Lawless Life and Ned Kelly Selectors, Squatters and Stock Thieves by Dr. Doug Morrissey in recent times expose the myths very effectively with documentary evidence from the time. These books are not that well known. I can assure you there are moves afoot from our group to have the myths removed from government and quasi government material, and we are getting them removed.
