but you can force them to have no one able to fix it.
15
They get around that by having things like Apple Authorised Repairers who still can't get the parts to do the repair.
11
@saberruntv Apple = think how do we screw our customers to make more money.
8
Melbourne had 400 cases a day before compulsory masks and lockdown. Now has under 20. It works but it does come at a cost.
7
No more dangerous than changing the batteries in a torch.
7
but the riots were in India weren't they?
7
and companies are busy making the RFID chips for the paper instead of making useful semiconductors.
5
@vulture4117 the law suit in Australia was over them refusing to honour warranty on machines that had been repaired by others. The ruling was that Apple couldn't refuse to fix parts that had not been worked on by the independent repairer - ie if you had a battery issue and then you had a software problem then they can't refuse to do the warranty 'repai' to the software. Our consumer laws are different to those in the USA.
5
which is uncommon!
5
@casualsuede yes it is Name: Apple Pty Ltd ACN: 002510054 which is the Australian company of Apple.
4
Actually someone should tell Mr Trump that having America fix Apple products is better for his economy than them buying a new one which is made in overseas.
3
@tsoliot5913 I'll wear a mask thanks all the same.
3
@tgamer1510 Yes you are right but often legislation in one country then gets taken up by other countries so at least one has put Apple in its place.. Lets hope this is one case where America copies what other countries do, I would expect the EU will eventually.
3
@thesabre8458 They already have. the new batteries are glued to the case and are a non changeable item.
3
@xpusostomos Must be the new ones that are glued in.
2
@kenpachi6979 Thanks for that. Does that apply to country areas or only the cities?
2
@duckersduck3096 Thanks for that. I get sick of people saying you can't live on this amount when they really have no idea of what the cost of living is in the country they are talking to. I am now a lot better informed thanks.
2
@gitawrongtranslation-youtu9701 The only way I find out these things is to enquire which is what I have done here. I know what it cost to live in China a while back so I know it is a lot less than Westerners expect. thanks for your info.
2
@rukisar6312 Won't help with an Indian company I am afraid.
2
Its amazing -they use the excuse of using genuine Apple parts when the repair didn't even need a part - genuine or otherwise.
2
I thought the company having the problem was in India.
2
there are variables to consider like copper content of the pcb acting as a heatsink. You just have try various temps and develop your own style.
2
Some have got the coding for farm machinery from Europe (Ukraine?)
2
@dacman61 i don't have a problem with people thinking that way but I prefer my customers to be alive and healthy so they can be repeat customers. Life is always a risk.
1
@munenex Crap. They aren't manipulating it at all. If it was then someone in the system would be shouting it out to try and bring down the Government! Nearly all of the current infections are within aged care or hospitals. In other States of Australia the most common is returning travellers who are in quarantine (Victoria is not allowing returns at the moment.) T
1
@munenex Gto no idea what kool aid is about but if a few weeks putting up with crap gets a virus under control then I will go with that every time.
1
@munenex Now down to five overnight.
1
the Defence Departments all around the world have the power to deal with this. When i did purchasing in the seventies we did not even ask for warranty. The DoDs can simply say - if we can't fix then we don't buy. market forces. They are being sold out by politicians who allow this bullshit and Loius uses the magic word - GREED.
1
This happens in other industries too. We just got a boat working properly after one engine was failing intermittently. The service agents for the engine couldn't find the problem. We found it and then found out that the replacement part, which was a small pcb with two ICs on it cost AUD11K. We managed to fix it for less.

here in Melbourne Australia we have had a fairly serious lockdown and wearing of masks. Our cases have gone down from 400 per day to under 20. A lot of us don't like it but most of us see the sense in the lockdown.
1
@rossmanngroup Yes if you make a rule you should follow it but I don't have a problem with them taking a mask off for interviews as it allow people to lip read and the people watching should be a lot further than social distance that is talked about. Part of the problem in this case is the way different societies work. Asians like China and Japan are family and community focussed more than western cultrues are so they will accept restrictions for the common good. From Australia it doesn't appear that the USA works like that in a lot of areas. I have been there so i can't be sure but it is my perception from what I see on news and Youtube and various forums and the replies I see on them.

Australia has recently amended legislation on this. I am attaching a link to the passed legislation in case it useful to you guys. https://parlinfo.aph.gov.au/parlInfo/download/legislation/bills/r6695_aspassed/toc_pdf/21041b01.pdf;fileType=application%2Fpdf

Gootwick sounds more German than a Chinese or Japanese attempt at English.
1
I hope everyone who watches this steers well clear of Apple products as i do.
1
Imagine only having to spend 5 of them. I guess that doesn't apply but remember it is not how much you earn that matters it is what you can buy with it. Costs in one country can be far different to others. When i worked in China I could have survived on USD 600 per month and still had a 2bedroom apartment - i wouldn;t have had a fabulous standard of living but would have been Ok.
1
Do you clean up the flux after you repair ICs like that or not bother?
1
@Spectral_Penguin I don't have a problem with paying the GST on imports but I do have a problem with paying Customs $80 for them to process it. Fortunately for me I am importing for busines so I have the ABN recorded and they get cleared prior to receipt as they know I will pay the GST on the sale and have nothing to offset against it. They end up with the same amount of GST in the end.
1
@kate9576 the Apple sub-contractor riots are in India in the Wistron factory - not China at all this time.
1
@Dplusithicus The Wistron factory where the employees destroyed its equipment (or so it reported and i haven't seen photos to show extent)
1
@kate9576 OK I haven't heard anything of that one. Which province was it in?
1
Maybe all broken Apples computers should be sent back to Apple to dispose of. Once they a million units they may think differently.
1
If an Apple employee is sick do they replace them rather than let them get better?
1
There should be a system like with ISO's. When you buy a copy it comes with your name etc on each page of the document so that if you provide it to others it is traceable back to you.
1
people are too quick to update their phone (which really is not a phone any more it is much more).
1
referred business is the best business because it keeps on coming.
1
do you ever use flux and a hot air rework gun to touch up QFNs?
1
can you use an analogy of the auto industry? In Australia as long as your care is repaired by a licenced automotive mechanic then your warranty is still valid. Things like spark plugs are often replaced.
1
lets think about it objectively. Masks stops transmission of the disease from airborn transmission. A gym has people exerting themselves and having heavy breathing. Pilates is less likely to be a problem but even if you are diligent in wiping down equipment you will still have airborn virus.
1
Just as well the auto industry doesn't have the same lawyers as Apple.
1
One thing I learned when working in China was not to trust any company that was Taiwanese owned but operating outside of Taiwan. I don't know what they are like in Taiwan but they are not good employers in China from what I saw.
