I understand that most mistakes that have been happening lately skate by just because the team couldn't do a proper review these past couple of months.   12. The accurate word you are looking for is Great Power. And, yes, I believe Poland is becoming a major European Great Power. It'd be great for 'power' to be spread more evenly across Europe. It would be even greater if it was used to build cooperation, instead of creating tension (looking at you, Hungary).

  13. Speaking of Liquified Natural Gas, the United States actually sent nearly 75% of all its liquified natural gas to Europe in the first four months of 2022, up from one-third last year. Countries that have the infrastructure to still benefit from these LNG imports are the UK, France, Belgium, Poland, Lithuania, Malta, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, & Turkey. Tragically, Germany and other European nations that chose to integrate energy economies with Russia are now being threatened using that leverage. Fortunately, the tedious work can be started now to build new infrastructure and redirect their energy sectors away from Russian gas.

  17. So they chose the Zophorizhia front! If this is really their main objective, they might be able to make it to Melitopol by the end of the offensive. By then, the US M1 Abrams will be ready, but the Rasputitsa would stop any further heavy assaults. Opening a second route down Kherson Oblast from Kherson City would have been ideal, but the Russians went and blew up the Dam. I'm sure the UA expected that this was a possibility and so adapted accordingly.

  19.  @wtyuuh  1) Her government safeguarded Finland's national security in these unprecedented times by joining NATO. 2) Her government managed to lead the nation through the pandemic. 3) At a time when economic hardship swept the world and the cost of living rose, her government did its part to help the people impacted. 4) It's downright misguided to blame a global economic crisis and the impacts of a war in Europe on Marin. Nor can she be blamed for the state of Finland before she came to office.

  22. Yeah. It was incredibly unobjective to mention the border with Belarus in this. Clearly, the crisis on the Polish-Belarussian border was a clear national security threat orchestrated by Lukashenko. Belarus literally trafficked countless desperate refugees from the Middle East and lied to them about an "open border" with Poland. Instead of condemning Poland for a crisis that's not of its own making, Lukashenko should be hauled to the ICC for crimes against humanity.

But to be fair a part of the reason the cost of living crisis is hitting Germany so hard is because the CDU spearheaded a policy of energy dependence on Russia instead of spending that time looking for alternatives. Then again, the Green Party calls themselves "green" but they lobby for nuclear power to be exempt from the EU's green subsidies; being picky about renewable energy despite going through a cost of living crisis.

  42. There's nothing problematic with EU strategic autonomy. What's problematic is Macron's rhetoric that is meant to put him as the big leader of Europe. He constantly implies that (his version of) strategic autonomy can only be achieved by distancing Canada, the US, & core NATO allies. As if his political ideology is the only path forward for European security. The part that especially bothers me is Macron's willingness to achieve this by flirting with autocrats.

  43. Macron's defense plan is uneconomical. It would also take way too long and be far too difficult to reform all European military industrial complexes. I am more receptive to Brussels' energy plan as smaller nations also deserve a bit of equity, even if it is unprecedented.

  47. Yeah, that's why de Gaulle withdrew French forces from NATO's integrated command. Strategic autonomy is a great idea, but, post-war, no French President has actually pulled it off at a European level. His dream of collective European Defense w/o the US is often labeled as "Europeanist" by the French Right, and Le Pen is a nationalist first, so Germany might get their way on the issue of defense. And honestly, the Right does have a point w/ that label. Before 2022, Macron was trying to get both Ukraine AND Russia into the EU to create a true European Superpower. Even w/o hindsight, that's insanity.
