When I saw the thumbnail, I had this image of Ian rocking up to a sporting clays range with that thing...
62
Of course, the Marines also went with their own Beretta variant, the M9A1
62
To the eye, it looks like a Chief's Special was caught morphing into a Bodyguard.
61
Maybe it's the era I grew up in, but those old stark, parkerized firearms appeal to me. While watching this, Chap's video popped up; nice to see how your videos complement each other. 😎

The 'galling'; Ian could have gone into a bit more detail, but stainless steel doesn't like to slide against itself under heat and pressure. With all-stainless guns, the slide and frame have to be heat-treated differently to prevent galling. Until this became practical, stainless autos were not practical. For their other issues, Colts got it right; my stainless Combat Commander has been flawless.

This was a different format! Thanks for taking the time to put this together; there's no telling what kind of history a particular object can represent. It sounds like somebody was working hard to protect the captain.
60
It shouldn't be a problem for an experienced reloader.

@brunobegic3841 I remember hearing about the embargo on the news; the explanation was that the UN was 'trying to prevent escalation of violence'. When one side is already well armed, the result is about like telling a rape victim to relax and enjoy it. ☹
59
Another 'Thank You!' for the captioning.
59
Ian does comment on that a few moments later. 😉
55
That 5.45 cartridge acquisition reminds me of Glock finding a .40 S&W round at SHOT Show.
55
Until very recently, 1MOA was the mark of elite shooters and very specialized rifles. Easily free-floated AR pattern rifles and modern materials allowing sophisticated stock design, along with newer optics allowed 1MOA to become something of a standard.
54
When Ian pulled out the bolt carrier group, I immediately thought 'TAVOR!' The gloves answered my question about handguard heating... It's about, what, $2k in the US?
53
Famous Russian proverb: "The Best is the enemy of Good Enough" I imagine State Security would not be very happy with soldiers bringing suppressors home...
52
A true Forgotten Weapon--fascinating! Now, I'd like to hear Chris Bartocci's take on this, since he is a former Colt's employee and possibly even more familiar with the company's internal working.
49
Back in the late '70s, .45 P220s were imported by Browning as the BDA and were considered outstanding SA/DA pistols; actually, pretty much the ONLY DA .45 pistol for a while.
48
Another factor against the claims of M1 carbine ineffectiveness is that the full-auto variant, the M2, was common in Korea and is very difficult to control in Happy Mode,* therefore extremely easy to miss with. If an enemy is still standing after ripping off a long burst, it would be easy to conclude that the round is ineffective. *I've fired one FA, and it jumps around like nobody's business!
48
Must be an open relationship; Karl and Russell Fagan seem to have a thing, too...
47
Ian's frustration was palpable, despite his niceness. I was feeling it too. I didn't realize until now that you can't drive it over with hits on the back of the targets.
46
I once read that one could distinguish between 'collection' and 'accumulation': A collection followed a theme, whereas an accumulation is eclectic, just whatever catches the owner's interest. I would pretty much be an 'accumulater'
45
I wish you had had a box mag, to compare the handling difference.
44
'And THIS, boys and girls, is called 'fun'!'
43
Like a basset hound running in slo-mo... :D
43
Good point; Recognition for heroism and notable accomplishments requires someone seeing and reporting them. Real heroes are quick to point out that many others did as much, if not more, but simply weren't observed doing so.
43
In yesterday's video, I'm pretty sure he mentioned that he does own it.
42
Not quite cursed, though shooting would likely be an exercise in improvisation! The adaptations may well have been done in stages, by different users.
41
WA state was allocated a couple of M60 tanks, permanently sited to clear certain highway passes
39
The content I've been waiting for! I had to keep reminding myself that it WAS actually at night, in more or less pitch blackness--it's really amazing how far night vision has come from 'Starlight, star bright' days.
39
There is an occasional urge to see what one can find at Lowe's or Home Depot...
38
Look at how the 'porcelain' Glock comment from 'Die Hard 2' still persists. The Gun World never forgets...
38
Yes, the shoot house with that old gear would have been awesome! I found myself thinking of Vickers in his prime.
38
Since the M2 fires from a closed bolt, it can be adapted relatively easily to long range precision shooting.
37
I heard 'desert and anvil'...
37
It's always amusing when the actual accuracy of legendary military rifles gets discussed, compared with many peoples' assumptions--burst bubbles, anyone?? Your discussion of the Red Army's thinking regarding a DMR of heavier caliber than the standard weapons back in the '50s immediately made me think of the current US Army M7 rifle.
36
Overall, ammo quality in WWI was abysmal. Othias at C&Rsenal tells of an M1917 being blown up by Winchester factory ammo.
35
As a resident of BirmingHam Alabama, I commend you for properly pronouncing 'Birming'am', England. 🙂 The history that you share along with these rifles makes the videos even more fascinating.
35
My first impression of the charging handle was a hand stop, to keep the support hand from slipping ahead of the muzzle.
35
Probably why bull-pupped Mini-14s were also used in Starship Troopers--look closely at the rear of their weapons and you'll see the Mini-14 receiver.
34
I imagine this makes the .22 Short look hot! Given that Ian keeps a deep reserve of videos and recent conditions, my question is, when did he film this? Just random curiosity.
34
The original AT rocket for the M1 was based on the US AT rifle grenade; hence the odd 2.36 bore diameter.
33
Joel's grin was eloquent and spoke louder than words. I wish you'd been able to include the Kel-Tec PF9. I've put well over a thousand rounds through mine, but it's really snappy.
33
Knowledge bomb shrapnel: I immediately assumed the IWW was associated with the Communist party, but did a quick search and saw their resolution rejecting Communist ideology. ALSO: Finally, evidence of a government program that was terminated when its mission was accomplished!
32
I was struck afresh by the sheer elegance of those old, simple systems.
31
So well-lit and quiet and clean. It's impossible to imagine existing in the dark, noise and stench the soldiers on both sides endured, especially the French defenders as they were forced ever deeper into the bowels of the fort.
31
A whimsical part of me imagines this thing turning out to be an absolute tack driver...😎
31
My first thought when I heard about this rifle!
30
Now go and ice that shoulder... The M14 included a charger clip guide for the same reason; in fact, they were issued with only two mags for riflemen. Early publications stressed reloading the rifle with stripper clips, similar to the Lee Enfields. This was the case when I was issued an M14 at Marine Corps OCS, in 1975. AR-men, who used M14s with the selector switch activated, would carry more magazines.
30
Back then, they were men. 'Manhood' came when they could fend for themselves and raise families--often by mid-teens. Of course, people generally didn't live as long, either. Mid-30s was getting old.
29
A true belly gun. At close to contact range, it could beat begging for mercy.
29
Maybe 'Ignored Weapons'? 😎 Thanks for videos about more modern weapons; your comments are always enlightening--and entertaining! So much fun! 😃 I call a pass for the Hi-Point in the mud test; after all each gun fired once! This may be the nudge to finally get a Hi-point. Just a range toy, in 10 mil no less!
