  7. Thank you for a very thought-provoking historical episode! I have lived my whole life in the South; I remember segregation from my early childhood. Thankfully, I was not infected with the bigotry of the time, and always imagined myself going north had I been around during the Civil War. Still, my image of John Brown was rather negative, a violent nutcase who didn't help the abolitionist cause.

  8. Thanks! It was fun to see one of these being fired. All that powder smoke spurting in multiple directions was quite the sight! Louis L'Amour featured revolving rifles in some of his Westerns, so it was nice to see one in action.

  9. First, take the time to do it right...then think about cheap. A perfect example is the simplification of the M1903 for WWII production. On AR, I'd drop the fun switch and stick with semi only. LAST thought...why the barrel cut instead of just making a slightly larger barrel clamp for M203s and eliminate a weak point in the barrel along with reducing cost?

  11. The caliber has me confused. 9.8mm is .385, a true .38, whereas 9mm/traditional .38 are actually .354 (generally rendered as .357). Was there to be a unique cartridge, or is this simply one of those gray areas in firearms nomenclature?

  13. Steel core? Expect range restrictions, even if it's not actually AP. In this case, a hiss is a GOOD thing--it means the ammo has likely not spoiled; unlike Steve's rations... ;) **Could the shorter case be to allow for a longer bullet made of less-dense material (steel v lead) to maintain the same bullet weight and overall cartridge length?

  28. Nice proof of concept! Is anyone trying an external piston with the KE lower? Your Vietnam Advisor gear reminded me that some troops actually went to an M16A1 stock on their XM177/Commandos during the war, because they felt the collapsible stock was too fragile.

  31. Despite the disdain many shooters have for these 'castrated' guns, they are interesting in their own right. It would be an off-beat collection, for sure. I would seriously consider a pump AR upper or one of the British manual actions, as well as a single-stack AK!

  37. He's wearing earplugs, but that seems light, given the size of the gun, the brake and being indoors. Even with pistols, I wear both plugs and muffs when shooting indoors.
