  1. Thanks for putting this series together! Now that I have seen some of the developmental history, the pistol is much more interesting to me. I shot a .45 XD a long time ago, and wasn't too impressed, but since I lean toward service-type firearms, I'm giving it a second look, YouTube gun snobs notwithstanding.

  8. At 11:30, we get to the real purpose of the video...😎 What was frustrating for me has been the lack of M16A1 clone guns and parts. Even before Brownell's retro series, the NoDak Spud parts were hard to come by, then I missed the Brownell's offering due to personal finances. When I finally grab a PSA gun, my AR itch may be well and truly scratched; call me a fudd but the modern AR iterations don't impress me at all. So much sameness...

  10. 2:10...the holster appears to have done its job of protecting the pistol quite well! It's kind of surprising the 9x25 didn't have a resurrection in the '30s, as an option to the .38 Super and .357 Magnum

  12. It looks like a Beretta 92 had relations with a S&W Sigma... It doesn't sound really lousy, just unrefined. That trigger safety and the need to pull the trigger (combined with a mag safety) to take it down are the negatives that I saw in the video.

  18. I also wonder if Ian, due to his knowledge and experience with weird and wacky guns, is the only one allowed to compete with guns like this. In less experienced hands, they could easily be real safety hazards.

  25. I'm one of those who immediately thought of how the gun-control crowd will try to leverage this against all shooters. Regardless of the maker's intentions, they will start trying to foist this upon everyone, not only for 'safety', but to force ownership restrictions. I also wouldn't be surprised if the anti's also tried to mandate a backdoor 'kill' function to disable guns if desired.

  26. The straight-line design of the AR really does seem to help. A question I posted yesterday was answered; the burst drum doesn't seem to affect trigger pull, as with the M16A2

  31. Too much fun! :D It was also very popular with the Germans. Many of the naval mounts were also water-cooled. There are tons of video showing them blazing away in essentially barrage fire; you also see teams of loaders struggling to keep up with the guns' voracious ammo appetite.

  32. Calling the cut-down M16s 'carbines' is a bit funny to me; the M16 itself is pretty much carbine-size compared to M14s or Garands. 😎 Also, the initial buy of AR15s was by the USAF to replace M2 carbines.

Though his perspective differs, I'm always happy to see civility among GunTubers. Pity you couldn't sneak Karl's 'Icarus' Cav Arms receiver into the lineup. It illustrates perfectly just how much punishment a polymer lower can take!

  38. Given that gunners are trained to fire bursts of 20 rd max, the stripper clips are actually pretty practical, and a good A-gunner should be able to feed them quickly enough to give continuous fire when needed.

  40. A Kar98 with ZF-41 is what I though Jeff Cooper had in mind when I first read about his scout rifle concept. When considering accuracy, remember we have been spoiled. Until the '80s, 1 MOA was a grail goal for elite marksmen; the rifles had to be almost hand-built and tuned.

  41. Several sources cite 'poor stopping power' as missing a lot, especially in full-auto. Ken's comments about the M2's controllability gives weight to that point. Hopefully, we will see Ian running an upgraded carbine in some matches!

  42. Slick guns! Kudos to Knight's!! The most telling part is where you are trying to talk while burning through the belt. Usually, your full attention is devoted to controlling the gun. Due to the recording equipment, though, the suppressed and unsuppressed guns sound the same.

  50. You can still stack M14s and later rifles by making a small loop in the sling, and sticking the barrels of two other rifles through it to make the tripod.
