  10. Thanks for an entertaining, informative video! This was indeed my understanding; a good gun pressed into roles for which it was not intended. A 12rd mag didn't help its popularity either. I'm looking forward to the shooting video tomorrow.

I APPRECIATE guns that show honest wear and use, especially when it's historically significant. While there are no unblemished rack queens from the day, they have no character. Give me the scarred warrior any day!

  20. At first glance and I knew I would not want to fire that beast... I wonder how the round would do at longer ranges? Also, would the angle shot have penetrated if the plate had been solidly fixed to a frame, simulating being part of a tank hull? It seems that the action of being knocked off the wooden frame would absorb a lot of energy that would otherwise have gone to penetration.

  34. Good on you, Ian for bringing up newly available information. I had read that the change to DA only was a safety issue, to help prevent NDs in less-trained hands. Modern revolver shooters, Miculek, et al, confirm that a tuned revolver fired DA is far faster (and as accurate) than firing in SA mode. I have heard, though that the Enfield DA pull was atrocious (again for safety); is this true?

  35. I was partly in jest since Ian and Karl have both stated that they very rarely clean theirs. In the military, weapons cleaning is a primary way to kill time. :p As for resources, having cleaning materials on-hand is, for me, like not having ammo.

  40. My initial thought is tradition. By their simple construction, the sights of earlier long arms were attached directly to the barrel, so it was only natural for magazines to be attached under the barrel, similar to how most first generation semi-auto rifles had operating rod/charging handles in the same location as the bolt handle on bolt-action rifles. Also, not having the top of the receiver open to whatever trash and gunk that might fall in was an additional benefit.

  48. Good video! One thing that tickled me: The 'long' short-stroke piston--I couldn't help but thing of the 'short' long-stroke piston of the Tavor. I do understand that the terms refer to the length of the respective pistons' movement, but it's still amusing to me. 😎

  50. A gorgeous collector. Thankfully, there are kit guns out there to shoot. Fortunately, I have an SOT friend who built one. Even with plastic training ammo, it's a hoot!
