  40. "Brian" from Berkeley in his question about speech falls into one of the hypothetical mind traps that most Republicans fall into. We can discuss extreme ideas in order to make a point. For instance, it is your right to believe the Earth is flat if you want. That's the hypothetical. BUT YOU'RE NOT ACTUALLY SUPPOSED TO BELIEVE THE EARTH IS FLAT. We have this idea that you should be able to say whatever you want, but underneath that is some expectation that you're not *actually crazy*.

If you have to work on the national voting holiday, then you get a floating holiday to be used during the early voting period. Most employers already have a notion of floating holidays, so all of this is just using existing implementations.

  48. UndrState: I read his memo, I read his bio, and I read a number of opinion pieces on him. I find there is nothing interesting about him. In much the same way that you guys literally cannot elaborate what is interesting about this person (outside his circumstance, which itself is not that unique or interesting), I just look at the same lack of anything interesting and make a direct conclusion: he's not that interesting. Lots of more interesting people to talk to.

  50. I know this might be hard for you to grasp, but it's called having an informed opinion. The larger picture is much sadder. When was the last time David had an engineer on his show? How come we can't have other engineering folks on? The one time David, or any of you for that matter, show interest in an engineer, and THIS fuckin' guy? Can't we have an engineer that wasn't essentially fired for being a bad engineer?
