You're assuming that flattards have in their possession "facts". However, when they claim that the Sun does not set, but simply moves away from the observer until it disappears as a dot, you know that they are not only unable to manage simple observation, but also that they are not dealing with a full deck. Wisdom is another topic altogether, and I'm afraid that they don't qualify as starters in that race either.
1
No. And I have encountered lots of these morons online. Never try to educate them - they are ineducable.
1
That near fatal plane crash didn't do your geometry a lot of good.
1
@elizabethmitchell2963 And you believe this shit?
1
As long as we can keep them away from our kids and impressionable adults. We already have enough trouble with Intelligent (sic) Design, antivaxx, and 9/11 and moon landing denial, among other conspiracy driven mindfuck beliefs.
1
@Cardinal RG Their lives must be quite basic as they seem not to have progressed beyond the ordinal level of measurement. Asking them to conduct calculations usually draws a few crabs.
1
@jjohnson4301 Are you afraid to go look for the Big Ice Wall? Your experience of a flat Earth means that your experienced oceans are also flat, which means something is holding them in. Are you up for the experience of your life - finding the mythical ice wall - or do you prefer to keep all this experience of yours within the confines of your armchair? If you do find it, congratulations, you have established that what you experience is definitely flat and motionless. If you don't even want to go look for it, guess what - it makes you no better than all the flattards who sit at home theorizing about crap they were told by their FE priests.
1
How about you try a different chan? None of what you verbalize seems to make sense, or invite serious discussion.
1
I didn't think that Vin was THAT bad...
1
Have you ever tried to engage flattards in logical discussions regarding the shape of the Earth? Doesn't seem like you have.
1
@therealzilch Phar - qui - knel.
1
@therealzilch Oh, all right! "Goodness gracious".
1
@paxmaniac1 The evidence presented in scientific publications is available to all (including flattards), and invites refutation, based on agreed scientific investigation. Flattards appear not to have read any of the publications that demonstrate the globality of Earth, preferring to invoke their universal "nuh-uh" as their considered conclusion. As this is not science based at all, how can we refer to flattards as anything other than fucking stupid?
1
@quinktap I doubt that many here would be interested in asking questions of you as your replies are little better than word salad.
1
@quinktap Not the first time you posed this nonsense, and Scott already told you what he thought of it. Go away.
1
@rajarsi6438 Not as sad as those who believe that to repeat the unsupported claims of others is the way to achieve knowledge.
1
@therealzilch Don't tell me - Brontoburgers. Good enough for Fred and Barney, good enough for us, eh?
1
@therealzilch Hard to believe that we (lots of us) fell for that life threatening shtick, and the ads are so heavy handed they wouldn't survive now, regardless of the product.
1
@efgtest How do you explain the fact that when the Sun sets, it does so from the bottom up, and without reducing in diameter before disappearing? That is an observable fact. If you would like to trot out the flattard crap about the Sun disappearing as a tiny dot as it "moves away" from you, don't bother. Observation does not support that crap - and that is true of everything that flattards claim to exist where there is zip evidence. Wanna have a go? Start with the sunset problem you guys seem unable to manage. Bring photographic evidence.
1
They stand outside the room with their fingers in their ears and humming loudly.
1
Tried that 3 years ago. Still waiting...
1
She clearly never tried to educate a flattard. For one, she simply would not understand the tactic of "nuh uh" - simple denial.
1
Maybe the Dems can do a better job of building internal trust than the sitting president and his merry men. Inciting mob violence in the Capitol after losing an election doesn't sound like the sort of thing a sane leader would do. We can only hope that he disqualifies himself from seeking re-election in 2024. America doesn't really need another dose of Trump initiated embarrassment internationally.
1
@elizabethmitchell2963 And you believe this shit?
1
@AlexandreLollini OK, now try to teach a flattard that he/she is using the incorrect process. Let us know how it works out.
1
Do you also think that we only need to discuss the real world patiently with flat Earthers for them to see the error of their ways? Have you ever tried to do so?
1
Ah, yes, Newcombes Third Law of Emotion.
1
What's the point? We (or most of us) already know the Earth is a sphere. Were you hoping that someone would shout "Hey, guess what - IT'S FLAT!!"?
1
@flookd5516 Antivaxxers would have us holding back until the vaccine in question has been subjected to exhaustive testing, covering millennia, until there is no longer any active virus against which to vaccinate. I'd like to see a separate environment created for them, separate from the rest of us, where they can manage their own responses to viral attack. And, if it's not too much trouble, perhaps they could take the flat Earthers with them. Mind you, a Venn diagram of the two subpopulations would probably look much like a single circle with a somewhat blurry circumference.
1
@dude8223 Why do people persevere with that crap about telescopes bringing ships back when they have disappeared over the horizon? Can you hear yourself? Have YOU done this? If so, where's your evidence??
1
@dude8223 Short answer - they can't recover the ship that has gone over the horizon. However much they claim to have done so, they can't. Try it.
1
Just try to educate one of these succulents and see how far you get.
1
@manuell3505 I'd much rather he/she addressed the topic of determining the shape of our planet. The rest is appropriate for a different forum.
1
@manuell3505 Flerf? Me? You must be new here.
1
@manuell3505 Denial of all things flat Earth, that's for sure. That should answer both your questions.
1
Every teacher knows that to discover the limits of your knowledge of a topic, try teaching it to someone who does not already know the topic.

"Video has been removed by uploader". Must have been a good one.

@petermeissnitzer1207 You need to appreciate their denial of all scientific explanations provided when they demand answers to questions. If they really want to feel special, there are plenty of religion vids where they can interact with folk of a like mind. Science has no place in their world of feelings, and no amount of invented trash can substitute for what people actually know about the world in which we live. If you're searching for an explanation of why they came to be where they are, maybe you could start with their common belief that they have been lied to all their lives, and watch some of the FE vids (eg, by Dubay) whereby these simple folk are trapped into believing that a flat Earth really exists, and that these poor folk are somehow "woke" if they believe it to be so. A very powerful tool to use on people whose feelings of disenfranchisement and suspicion of education are so strong.
1
@petermeissnitzer1207 "Believes" is a verb, as in "He believes it to be true." "Beliefs" is a noun, the plural of "belief". Hope that helps.
1
@therealzilch Maybe "Pläsierchen"? And certainly, to each his own. Me, I think I'll stay with what science has so patiently provided us for the last couple of thousand years and more.
1
@therealzilch Ach zo! Mi dispiace molto.
1
Having poor reasoning skills is just one of their problems. It seems that many, if not most of them have been captured by charlatans like Dubay and Weiss because they have been led to believe that a number of huge but baseless conspiracies are being perpetrated by a number of perceived authorities, NASA being foremost, to enslave us all. There are other reasons being sold to these simple folk, such as hiding God which, while being senseless and unprovable, act as powerful magnets for the weak and stupid. They are being told not to believe anything produced by these authorities, including footage from space (NASA "CGI"), and if you think it sounds like a religious cult, you are probably right.
1
@mrbrunno Better to let people suspect that you are stupid than to rush into print and broadcast the fact for all to see.
1
@soloauditor Indeed, Einstein observed that knowledge was not to be preferred to imagination. And when it comes to imagination, da Vinci was certainly way up there. So also was Newton, my hero in science, who had to be encouraged to publish some of his stuff (by Edmund Halley, as it happened, without whom we probably wouldn't have the Principia). If he could have been persuaded to stop bickering with Leibnitz, and to avoid alchemy, who knows what else we might have seen from him. Early relativity?
1
@soloauditor Apply some of that immense IQ to an understanding of space-time, and how it relates to gravity. You might be surprised.
1
@soloauditor Enjoy your life knowing that you have a superior "outside the box" knowledge. I won't make any further suggestions. Bye.
1
Neil well understands that his level of understanding of astronomy is well beyond the grasp of many folk, but he does enjoy breaking it down in order to communicate with those willing to learn. However, when he encounters flattard dumbasses who try to convince him and others that the Earth is flat, that there are things like a dome, a big ice wall, and nearby Sun and Moon, he quite rightly refuses to countenance such crap, if only because there is patently no evidence to support any of it. Big difference.
1
@therealzilch The elephants are all pink, chez flattards.
1
@therealzilch And stay both positive and negative, Scott. It must be a major exercise in avoiding infection when you venture outdoors (snow permitting). And I'd recommend avoiding the semi nakedness.
1
I wonder how many flattards feel so charitable towards her?
