Thanks again Lewis! Ordered an RT3S using the link below the video. Decided to get one since it can use the MD-380 accessories. Another one for the collection courtesy of RM video reviews! Good job!

Enjoyed the look at those phones Lewis! I wonder how many calls were actually made using them. Most old phones I come across are pretty heavily abused and beaten up. Used to love scanning the local towers to find all the voice channels and trying to follow conversations as they hopped between sites back in the day (AMPS 800Mhz). And yes, that T-Shirt is some 80's retro goodness!

Excellent presentation Lewis and Rory. Thanks both for taking the time to have the discussion. Unfortunately it does not surprise me that so much misinformation abounds regarding cellular radio systems. I can remember the uproar in the early 90's when the roll out of GSM (2G) was taking place in my local area and towers began to be erected next to playgrounds and schools etc.... Then of course many of the same people who were concerned at that time quickly took up mobile phones only to then complain when the signal was not good enough!

Heard a looped recording in Russian playing on 7060kHz LSB at 18:00z yesterday. The only word I could understand was "Putin" so no idea if it was anti or pro Russia. Eventually the recorded loop gave way to live speech which started a jamming and slurring match between numerous stations. Very good signals as we approached local grey line at sunrise. Frustrated that I need to learn Russian and get to bed earlier!

That was a great video you managed to capture. Especially given recent events, it is not always a good idea to be seen around incidents (you weren't on the actual incident scene) with radios and cameras. Hope you are well soon Lewis!
3
Excellent how you have found the transmitter sites to show in your videos Lewis 😉
3
Interesting how the secret squirrels avoided having to obtain warrants to intercept calls by building their own facility using a pile of taxpayer money. Makes you wonder why they bother with needing warrants in the first place if they can simply circumvent the law like this. Very interesting subject Lewis! Hope you don't get a warrant executed at your place at 3am!

These stories are great! I cannot imagine being stoned out of one's gourd and the Police show up to do a shakedown of a radio 😂 Thankfully we had no such law against listening and the Police had DVP encryption on certain channels when most others were analogue FM. So you could listen to all but the real juicy stuff and not break any interception law.

Hi Lewis! Finally subscribed after being a watcher of your videos for quite some time. You have an excellent channel, with great video quality and interesting content. However, you are directly to blame for my continued and baffling habit of buying more radios and accessories than one person could ever need! Watch a video and soon after, another radio arrives. It's out of control!! :) And also, through your channel, you have introduced me to several other great UK radio Youtube channels. It's not helping with my CRAP (Compulsive Radio Acquisition Problem) either! Please keep up the great work, and enjoy the new house mate, nothing better than coming home to a place that you can call your own! 73's from Adam VK3SWL.

Probably a Bingo caller using a cheap wireless mic down at the RSL.

I have one of those but it is the version with the BNC connector. Bought it around 1996 from the U.S. along with some other items. Used it to listen to 800Mhz trunked radio (phones were mostly GSM 900 by then). Still have it but nothing to listen to up that high anymore, so it is part of the collection of radio curiosities now! I think you would have to be rather brave to go out in public with that on top of a radio!

Putin is going to push the butin!

SDRPlay is a UK based company, so they certainly do!
3
Super interesting stuff Lewis! 1Mhz of spectrum doesn't seem like much until you showed the licenses in that segment. Very crowded and popular!
3
Seems so strange watching you out in 3 degree celsius weather when I am sitting inside sheltering from the 35.8 degrees celsius outside! Can't stand the cold myself, but it is far too hot here to do much outside. Thanks for another good review Lewis! Werneth Low looks like a beautiful spot, both the view and the RF aspect.

ACHTUNG TEJRJWNE TEJRJWNE TEJRJWNE TEJRJWNETEJRJWNETEJRJWNE Sorry to hear you have been unwell Lewis. Pleased you are on the mend! Great video! All the best for 2020! TEJRJWNE TEJRJWNE TEJRJWNE TEJRJWNE TEJRJWNE TEJRJWNE -----------ENDE---------

Nice product & a great idea, but absolutely stupidly overpriced. Would be interesting to see a range test though Lewis!

I know exactly what you mean. Used to use an in building 800Mhz system for work and it was incredible the amount of dead spots throughout the building. Especially annoying since the person you were trying to reach could be less than 50 feet away in another room. But go up on the roof with a 70cm hand held and talk to someone 60 miles away through a repeater around 20 miles away.

@spacewolfjr Two men enter....one man leaves!

Wow!!! It really is submersible and able to withstand -10c! Great torture test! If only the Veasu version I have didn't suck the battery flat just sitting on the shelf, it would make a great survival radio ;). Definitely give it a try with a decent antenna!
2
Great video Lewis! Really enjoying seeing the beautiful countryside you have local to you. And nice weather! It is only 37.6 C here today and there are several large bush fires burning to the north and south east. The first few days of Australian autumn are an absolute scorcher down here in Victoria. 73's!
2
Fire starts in cabinet below and all the built up heat and burning particulates start the feeder cables outer jacket alight, causing the fire to propagate up the mast and into the antennas, much like how a chimney fire starts.
2
Yeah you gotta crank those beats right the heck up at the end of a Ringway video!
2
Wow! No idea that there was gear manufactured for 903Mhz. Great to see the major manufacturers of car audio making some radios back in the day! Pioneer ones looked rather cool.
2
@RingwayManchester Thanks Lewis! Always watching (and listening!)
2
Because they specialise in making the equipment and not the English language unfortunately.
2
Me too! Totally slaps!! 🤘
2
Like the clear case. Nice mood lighting there Lewis! But I will stick with my Icom IC-RX7 thankyou.
2
Yeah because people don't already stare at you in public when you are using a hand held radio! Reminds me of a work colleague who had one of those LED blinky antennas on his Ericsson GH-337 GSM handset in 1999. Made it very easy for a passing Police car to notice him using his phone while driving at night. A nice big fine ensured that the antenna was quickly removed and tossed out!
2
Dickheads. Happens here on the approach to YMML all too often. Mostly green lasers. Thankfully they seem to be more of an annoyance to pilots, but still a damn dangerous and stupid activity. Nice catch with the recording Lewis!
2
Nice beats and antenna installations! Two of my favourite things. No doubt part of a network used for interference tracking and mitigation (among other things). Finding an EPIRB activation or pesky wireless microphone, that sort of thing. Especially necessary with the amount of cheap nasty crud coming into the market and being used by people with no technical knowledge. Those bargain wireless headphones could be jamming open or de-sensing a repeater somewhere. Or people importing and using cellular jammers. Great photos of the install work. Thanks for sharing! Just check for black vans outside and make sure you aren't being tailed in traffic ;) TEJRJWNE

The Ticking Clock is 5x5 and sometimes much stronger here in southern Australia before morning greyline. Have heard it go from siren to ticking and back, then air raid siren to ticking etc.... This signal has no fading whatsoever and would seem to be beyond a pirate effort at this point.
2
Definitely Tejrjwne.
2
@joeds3775 That would be correct Jo! Then those who named the system knew how to name it appropriately!
2
Love those Yupi MVT5000/6000 scanners Lewis! Although you might need to brush up on your spanish to use the cartel buttons 😅 Great stories and awesome photography as always!
2
Thanks Lewis! I prefer, well, both of them. But the IC-705 has a higher price tag in VK than the IC-7300. Excellent comparison video!
2
Another very interesting video Lewis! The four vertical elements on the tower around the radar head. Are they lightning protection or other antennae?
2
You gotta pay to play!
2
Fantastic Lewis! Pleased to have made the final cut! I do wonder if Gerald ever got a visit? Really nice still pictures used throughout too!

Police in my city used Motorola Sabers equipped with DVP (Digital Voice Protection) which were in use by certain squads. Certain channels were DVP only through repeaters to maintain decent range across most of the city. General duties were in the clear on analogue conventional UHF until 2006 when they switched on the P25 trunked network and encrypted ALL Police talkgroups (AES256). With some of the nasty people around these days, I am glad that the radio network is secure.
2
I don't know what is more sad. The yagi with half an element remaining or the shack left trashed like that. It would have been great to have been a part of a station like that back in the heydays. Great series Lewis! Very interesting!
2
Nice work as usual Lewis! Tempted to get one of those Surecom meters for the test equipment box. 73's!
2
Thanks again Lewis! I remember when those Jingtong sets came to market because of the laughter and derision the name created. My collection consisted of early 90's hand held radios from the "Big 3" which I could not afford at the time but had become affordable in later years. The Icom IC-32AT (what a brick!) dual bander and Yaesu FT-530 are two examples I still have, the quality of which remain unsurpassed by any Chinese radio of late. The Wouxun KG-UV8D and Ailunce HD-1 are the current Chinese favourites of mine. The quality of the Chinese gear is definitely getting better. And since the "Big 3" have chosen to ignore the popularity of DMR, they have left that market segment wide open for new players. Great video as always, and please show more equipment reviews as you get new toys to play with! 73!

Really makes you wonder how the Dolphin network engineers could make such a blindingly stupid oversight like having the TX/RX splits reversed like that. How on earth was it not picked up during initial testing and rectified? Any wonder it all resulted in a big pile of (expensive) fail! The pen collection is awesome Lewis! Am a bit of a radio swag collector myself, with the odd pen, badge or coffee mug. Another really interesting video on Dolphin. Thanks Lewis!
2
Those radios are so solid they could be used to keep a plane from rolling along the runway by using one as a wheel chock! Thanks again Lewis, your channel content just keeps getting better!!
2
You can, but without some sort of filtering or pre-selector in line, the counter will be easily swamped on a busy radio site like that. It will tend to lock up on the strongest signal (like the 378 watt FM station up there for example) and you won't get much else if anything at all.
2
Part II has to be filmed at a Skate Park. We need to see Lewis carving up a half pipe, or failing that, an empty swimming pool. Go sick upon it and really show off the capabilities of both man and machine! Oh and you need to add a nice bracket for a radio.
2
Ooohhhhh....spike in chatter from the DPRK!
2
Thanks Lewis! I was hoping to see a review of one of those. Another great video. Thanks! Really like the look of that radio, but my preference would be orange if it is available or even blue. The only issue I can see is that remembering what is programmed into 199 channels without carrying some sort of printed cheat sheet around. If you have that many frequencies to enter and use that is! 73's!
2
Imagine being a field operative awaiting your next vital instruction to proceed or not with an assassination etc.....only to be called up and hear some idiot playing pinball or XP error bonks in place of the message! The intended victim(s) would be pleased to find out that the station is controlled by a Pentium 4 and someone playing Solitaire.
