@jet4415 Great advice but make sure you invest INSIDE an IRA or 401k to drop your taxes. At least get a stock index fund because they offer LOW expense ratios and built in diversification. Bonds alone might keep up with inflation but they don't offer much real growth.

You could care less if a baby old enough to have developed a nervous system and feel pain has its arms and legs cut off and it's skull opened up, suctioned out and crushed. So when you boo-hoo about some teen helping their family pay the bills by working, it just shows how hypocritical and morally bankrupt you are.

@ChefBuckeye Hey, I'm not saying a normal circumcision under sterile hospital conditions is necessarily a good thing, or that there are no negative consequences. I'm saying it's so much less drastic than "digging a hole" (and then turning the former penis inside out and suturing it into that incision to create a "vagina"), that there's not much of a comparison.

@elevatedaspirations Ok, I get that you're a fanatic "activist'" type, which gives you high "natural immunity" to facts and logic, but I'll break it down for you. If someone has healthy, unbroken skin, that acts as a BARRIER to germs. If someone has non-healing wounds (a diabetic, with poor circulation,for instance), that extremity might need to be removed to a point further up the limb where circulation is better and the limb can heal, especially if gangrene has set in. Limb amputation is not a good comparison to circumcision. If someone is not circumcised and does not clean themselves adequately, dead skin cells collect under the foreskin which provides an ideal environment for bacteria. This can lead to your wife getting a UTI, which can turn into a kidney infection. If not treated, this could lead to death. Antibiotics for treatment were not available in the olden days, which is partly why circumcision is traditional. For the FOURTH time, I'm not saying circumcision is a good idea for everybody, I said it is not a big deal when you compare it to a non-medically necessary, much more extreme procedure, like a s€x change operation.

Most of these teens are living with Mom and Dad, so provided that they're not having to chip in for rent, their living expenses should be pretty low. Second, before finishing High School, apply for as many grants, scholarships, etc.as you can. See if there are any AP courses you can take while in High School that will earn you college credit for free. Also, see how many required courses you can test out of , just for the price of the exam fee. If you're applying for a scholarship based on need, it might be to your advantage to keep your savings outside of a bank so that it doesn't count against you. Then, once you're in college you may qualify for a work study job where you're doing next to nothing ( checking supplies in and out, for example) so you can study on the clock. Record your classes and listen to them during your commute.

Exactly what type of autonomy are we talking about here, and shouldn't the age of autonomous decision be related to the risk? A person old enough to consent to $€x should be old enough to consent to marriage. $€x has the potential to be more detrimental than drinking alcohol, yet the drinking age is 21, because " kids can't handle the peer pressure and make good decisions". Tattoos can be lasered off, bad jobs can be quit and bad spouses can be divorced, but the effects of artificial hormones during puberty, let alone ca$trati0n/ hysterectomy are irreversible.

@argleblargle8083 There should be ONE age of majority at which the child becomes an adult and can then drink, smoke, mate, join the armed forces, etc. Since s€x results in offspring, I would favor the age of majority/ consent to be at least 18 so that the person would have the mental capacity and the earning potential to care for their children. S€xual activity has the potential to be more detrimental than alcohol but the drinking age is 21. I would have no problem with a ban on minors working in bars, especially $exually oriented bars and in "breastaurants" such as hooters. I don't think waiting tables in a family restaurant where beer and wine are on the menu is that much of a problem.

If you're old enough to consent to $€x, you should be old enough to consent to marriage, which traditionally came BEFORE $€x. Also, since $€x produces offspring and relationships often don't last, a person over the age of consent should be able to work full time so that the offspring are provided for. Random hookups, no marriage and reduced work hours is a recipe for a multi-generatiinal welfare state!

Then, make the list PUBLIC and let the public be the ones to use discretion! This is about RESPONSIBILITY for your actions. Taking it back to the subject of "child" labor, could you have provided for a kid at 16? While going to school? What about a second kid at 17? Sounds like you think the "mommy state" should pay your bills for life (and provide for your offspring) while you sit around doing what you want with your junk? There's nothing wrong with a "safety net" for the injured, aged, insane, etc. But if that system becomes a "hammock" for the able bodied, the whole welfare Ponzi scheme falls apart because there aren't enough WORKERS that can be taxed to support the non-workers.
