It's not that. The type of vehicles popular in the US is vastly different than those in Europe, Japan, or CN. The best selling in the US vehicles are large work trucks, such as Ford F-150, GM Silverado, Dodge Ram, or SUVs whereas in Japan and CN small/compact (and also much cheaper vehicles). The current existing battery techs are ok for small vehicles, but difficult for larger SUVs/trucks (more power, weight, etc). China's LFP batteries for instance are really better optimized for stationary energy storage (ESS) or small vehicles. The small vehicle segment is less than 10% of the US auto market and still shrinking.
