There is no export subsidy issue because of the free trade agreement between US-M-CA. You are still trying to argue based on your uninformed and expansive definition of "subsidies" that all subsidies are fungible and therefore there is no difference between export / local subsidies, in spite of the specific examples I provided above.

  10. No Western country can build affordable EVS yet because China cornered the EV battery supply-chain as a result China's anticompetitive, discriminatory NEV practices past 10 years. We are going to need at least a couple of additional years to develop our own.

  22. ​ @lagrangewei  Neither Japan or Korea has much to gain from China at this point, China's mercantilist policies are simply incompatible with peaceful trade relationship pursued under the WTO. China has weaponized their market position to coerce both countries -- eg, China's rare earth metal ban against Japan in 2010 or various economic coersion and sanction against South Korea after THAAD in 2017. China is tolerated; America's policy of engagement and bringing China under the international insitutions/umbrella is over. If nobody hasn't told you yet, the de-coupling trend is real and the train has already left. Everyone is just trying to make it least disruptive as possible.

Take for instance, China's space program which was started by a US-educated scientist in the 60's, it pretty much stagnated until China was able to steal key space/satellite tech from Loral/Boeing back in the 90's. China had little or no chip industry to speak of until fairly recently.

  34.  @andrewlim7751  : Do you know why China can't just forced Apple out like China did with Samsung's smartphone busines back in 2015 (years before the Note 7 fire)? Tesla open sourced their IP in preparation of entering China's EV market and China invited Tesla in as a marketing prop, to showcase and prove China's EV legitimacy. Without Tesla, LFP wouldn't have been nearly as succuess at all.

  38. Europe is not "following" -- the EU already initiated a WTO complaint against China back in 2018. Their recent anti-subsidy probe is a follow-up to that, though I must say that the EU/US should coordinate their countermeasures against China.

  39. The EU OEMs were the main victims of the Chinese gov't economic coercion to push local battery industry. I'm not surprised that the EU is working on Anti-Coercion Instrument to deal with China's future abuses.

  42. US has offered to mediate the situation there. It's important for the US to resolve this matter, as the political conflict between the two could end up benefiting China, which is a greater threat to the US.
