@SeattlePioneer That's the damned problem with people and their gas cars. It's really hard to control their movement without a massive and overbearing police state.
2
@williammeek4078 Billy, your electric vehicle has an off switch that is controlled by the government. Did you not know this? Bless your heart.
2
@seannewman5391 Not so much. EV sales in the US have plateaued in Q1 2024, and Tesla shares have dropped like a rock as a result The other car makers have simply stopped making EVs and have quickly converted the lines to making cars that people want.
2
@Hapkido82AUS Musk has indicated he agrees the subsidies for EVs should end.
2
No doubt Volvo will be as successful as Saab now.
2
@sdcoinshooter He's not far wrong.
2
@biggils8894 They are about to tax them out of existence Not in the US.
2
@flyingcircus808 You just hit the remote starter button in a gas powered car. No need for making them more complex.
2
11 Reasons? Only 11? you sound like a die-hard EV supporter if you can only think of 11 reasons!
2
@bryanhood9839 You get pulls from a junkyard. These type of engine swaps happen all the time and generally for far less than $5K. Same happens for transmissions. The only time you get a "new" engine is if it fails under warranty and the manufacturer will ship a new engine to the dealer to replace.
2
@redbaron6805 It happens all the time. Welcome to the real world. You can look up engines online from junkyards. These salvage yards don't stay in business long if they sell bad engines, so there is quality control. You're welcome for me teaching you. And you do have a lot to learn about reality.
2
@redbaron6805 Not sodium the salt, sodium the alkali metal.
2
@redbaron6805 You're really out of your depth. You come across as an 18 year old high school who is angry nobody agrees with him. You have no idea of how the real world works .
2
@redbaron6805 Then why do you post like you're 15 years old and are wrong so often? One has to assume that you are a Phoenix University graduate.
2
Just curious if the previous owner had the valve seats replaced so it can use unleaded fuel safely.
2
@MilesCobbett There's lots of of those FE engines around. If the car is in otherwise great shape and you can get it cheap, it would be a great deal.
2
@Luka_3D The reason that it's the only means of transport is because the population density is too low to make any sort of rail transport impractical. You always have the choice to move to a city if you feel that's your jam, but if you ban cars, you are locked into wherever you are now because alternatives will go up in price, and in the US you'll be locked into wherever your bicycle will take you, which isn't very far. We're a big country with a lot of low-density population that needs personal transport. There's no way around this.
2
@marxistilluminati9529 "death of infrastructure". Do you hear yourself? And of course, government works for man, not vice-versa.
2
Any country that has Chinese cars struggles with parts. When things go wrong (say a big recall, which happens frequently) Chinese companies will simply shut down their foreign subsidiary and then reopen in 90 days under a new name. Same thing they do on Amazon. If you buy Chinese anything, assume when it breaks you throw it away.
2
@peteparadis1619 Plus you can keep 5 gallon jerry cans around your garage to power your cars.
2
@mac_mcleod It's actually 22-30%. And EVs have a special kill switch. It's not about the power. Tesla or any EV maker can simply turn make your car inoperable.
2
@Catsrules1 Name a gas car that has a remote kill switch installed from the factory.
2
@Catsrules1 They may have active connections but the cutoff switch is not in them for the reasons I stated earlier.
2
If you get a DeWalt or a Milwaukee, they generally last a long time (5-10 years)
2
@Audioremedy0785 You realize EVs are powered with the same battery technology as EVs, right? As is your cell phone.
2
@danquaylesitsspeltpotatoe8307 less than you imagine, and less than EVs
2
@paulparoma There's no upside to adding more complexity to a gas drive train.
2
@typhoon320i So you live in a salt/rust belt if you're seeing all these problems. Guess what... EVs will have similar problems in salt/rust belt, and worse, since EV makers struggle to get replacement parts which is why insurance companies routinely write off EVs for only minor impact damage. Consumer Reports has pointed out that from a reliability standpoint, EVs are not terribly reliable, being only slightly more reliable than Dodge Ram. Ironically the hybrids produced by Toyota (Lexus/Toyota) have the best reliability of any car and cars from Honda/Subaru/Mazda are all significantly better than any electric car. So you may be a mechanic (certainly not an A tech), but you don't understand what makes cars reliable.
2
@vandamonium1731 Oh my.
2
All of the climate hysteria is driven by pure emotion ( The earth is dying we need to DO SOMETHING NOW !), you cannot use logic to convince someone that they're being ridiculous.
2
@Dratchev241 Diesel fuel has much more energy per gallon in it than gasoline, that's the primary reason they get better mileage.
2
@woolychewbakker5277 Presumably you mean in another 20 years that's what you see as the future.
2
What happened to the UK? At least in the US we care about our freedom, and understand the government works for us, and not vice-versa. And with a little luck we'll be getting rid of a terrible government in a few days.
2
Serious question. When an EV burns, how much pollution is created, and how does it compare to the lifetime pollution caused by a real car?
2
@jamescollins3647 In California all EVs have to be fitted with a noise maker So is it the voice of Gavin Gruesome saying Please don't nuke the whales! Please don't nuke the whales!
2
The Washington Post (WaPo) is the purveyor of every wacky far left idea ranging from allowing children to cut off parts of their body to EVs can replace actual cars by 2035.
2
@seannewman5391 You misunderstand _god given right[s} _ In the US everything is a god given right unless it it prohibited by the constitution.
2
@seannewman5391 Given the massive issues with EV batteries, it seems we'll have gas cars for the next 50 years.
2
@seannewman5391 Any bizarre anti science, anti democratic narrative can become a popular belief Whenever someone claims to be protecting democracy, they're always lying. What do you believe is bizarre or anti-science? Can you even define science without looking it up online?
2
@ Maybe oil and gas is taxed Maybe? Funny stuff. Okay, here's a chance to redeem yourself. I asked you above what special tax breaks the oil companies get that every other corporation doesn't get.
2
How can people save the planet if they don't have EVs? For every mile you drive in an EV, a tree starts to grow in the desert.
2
@johanncover1988 Well, but it's also the lithium mining and the fact batteries degrade over time. So you're never getting ahead of the capital and maintenance costs associated with an EV. If you trade your car every 3 years, you probably don't care, but in reality, the depreciation affects the viability of new cars.
2
@johanncover1988 I will own my own power plant They may choose to tax on you on it. They may raise taxes on your car and house until you can't afford it. This is already happening in some states in the US.
2
@leisuresuitlaz1710 Even stalwart and desirable German cars like the 911 tend to drop in value pretty quick, particularly if you drive them more than 5K miles a year. You might see a 50% drop in price after 3 years, unless it's one of the high-end Porsches.
2
We'll never actually reach carbon neutrality unless we're willing to go back with an 1850's way of life, but without firewood or coal. Carbon Credits (a promise not to cut down the rainforest) are a junk.
2
@jevgeniardassov I predicted EVs will have at most 7% of the total "population" of cars and will not go higher than that due to it's limited appeal and usefulness compared with gas/diesel cars.
2
@lordlee6473 Toyota made the bet on Hybrids, which is paying off.
2
@justsomeguy934 Oh, absolutely true. You just have no knowledge of automotive history. Detroit Electric was the favorite of wealthy women, because they weren't strong enough to crank the engine. Once Cadillac invented the electric starter Detroit Electric failed because of range issues, and battery issues. So stop pretending you know what you're talking about and accept that the electric car had already failed over 100 years ago and it on the verge of failing again today for precisely the same reason. As long as electrics are going to drag around that heavy battery, they'll never succeed.
2
@derekr1113 Electric Viking is hardly an expert on the history of battery powered cars.
2
@bmw803 It's not just that EVs catch on fire, the real issue is that they burn so hot they can't be put out at all . Dunking them in water makes the fire burn hotter.
