Why not?

I think the US did the right thing, but I don't know anyone who thinks it's funny. I'm not quite sure what you mean by people who speak of repeating this.
1
@NikolayBelyh "Back then, it was not " And if it had been a crime the people who bombed cities like Warsaw, London, and Rotterdam would have been prosecuted for it.
1
Did her grandmother witness these things herself?
1
@robert8764 "USA committed war crimes against Japan" Please name the crimes you allege. " and owes Japan huge reparations" Not sure if serious.
1
@juno4255 Do you think it was incumbent on the US to know that Japan might have surrendered in a few days? How could the US have known this in advance?
1
@juno4255 Russia still occupies parts of Japan and a treaty between them ending WW2 has not been signed. When do you think the US knew that Japan negotiated with the Soviet Union? When do you think the US knew that the Soviet Union was going to occupy Japan? In what way do you think this should have influenced the decision to drop the bombs?

How so?

@krashme997 "The A bombs were considered a scientific test rather than a possible method of achieving victory back in the day." Citation? I mean can you find something that says the bombings primary purpose was as a scientific test rather than a means to win the war? "That's a crime in my book." But not in the law of the time. As far as I can tell from a quick search Stimson wanted Kyoto spared because of its cultural significance.
1
@krashme997 Can you tell me where I can read about Stimson's trip with his wife? " there's no such citation," " You've got to read between the lines" "The fact that they spared relatively important cities just to have accurate datas says a lot in itself." I don't see how your premise supports your conclusion here. "Also, we both know the "law of the time" was decided by the winners," Then I would expect that the winners would have found some neat exception that would let them try the people that bombed cities like Warsaw, Rotterdam, and London. Yet they did not. So I would like to know what law was violated. "The US decided they wanted to use the research for themselves so they deemed it not a "warcrime" (quotation marks in original document) " I haven't seen that they deemed it not a war crime, but from what I found online they granted the perpetrators immunity and kept it from the courts that were investigating it. This is shameful. The Soviet Union did prosecute some of the members of 731.

@Arcessitor What are you talking about? What German laws? What international hegemons? What wrongs? What slanderous lies?
1
@tsob474 Specifically what is omitted?
1
@spyder_33 Please explain. " I was once proud of my German ancestry." Why aren't you now?
1
How did Japan end up defending themselves against communists?
1
"those responsible for the massacre" What massacre are you referring to?

@ericiriarte6111 " there were other reasons why the U.S. wanted to use the bomb." There may have been other reasons, but that doesn't mean that the main reason was invalid. "in fact they did just that in the early days of the Japanese occupation when they were overwhelmed by the invading Japanese" Sorry, but I don't understand this. Can you please clarify? " I am thankful that I am a U.S. Citizen" Me too. "have a good one." You too.
1
@ericiriarte6111 What do you think the main reason to use the bomb was? Did the US leave the Guam natives behind because they wanted to, or was that a question of limited resources? "What are we working towards in having this exchange? I’m busy, do you have something you’d like to add on or prove?" I'm not sure that we're working toward anything. I'm curious to know what people think.
1
@ericiriarte6111 What do I think was the main reason for the bomb? To end the war as quickly as possible. What do you think?
1
Very interesting. Thanks. I hesitate to ask, but are you using a wide angle lens?
1
"I can relate to this feeling being russian now." Save yourself if you can.
1
No. The US and Japan have a treaty and IIRC it can be dissolved with a year's notice. Both countries continue with this treaty because they have economic ties and Japan has a large imperialist neighbor that neither country wants to see gain control of Japan. However uncomfortable the current alliance is, both sides feel it is the better alternative.
