  1. perhaps a stupid question but where does the EU fit as an alternative for Russia? i mean i understand NATO and European nations view Russia as an enemy but in terms of geo-politics does Russia not benefit with working with the EU at least economically and willing to ease relations between the west? after all the stronger China becomes the more they will come to dominate Russia's politics, as such the EU and NATO might become a better alternative then China, likewise as China grows stronger European nations and the USA will want to have Russia as a buffer state between them and China.
