@a.b.6233 if NATO Turkey attacks Greece than this alliance between France means France will defend Greece and attack Turkey which is a NATO ally, basically instead of allowing the USA to decide who gets to stay in NATO, France has basically made that choice for them, it's France or the Turks in favor of the Greeks. in another way this is a sign that France as well as the EU want to become more involved and influence the region, more so than the US has done or will do, it's a pretty big move.

@jeffhask367 the difference is the Germans admitted it and have tried to make up for their actions, meanwhile Turkey still denies there even was a genocide, so....

@derinden15 that sounds a lot like what some holocaust deniers say about the holocaust, im not saying your wrong but that's what you sound like.

@a.b.6233 well yes and no, if Turkey attacked Greece the EU countries would most likely back Greece, however the EU is mostly a political and trade based union with no real documented military agreements for protection, that roll is mostly done by NATO, however if a NATO member goes to war with another NATO member it becomes tricky and the US being the main force within NATO would make a choice on who to back, Greece or Turkey, we all assume they would pick Greece over Turkey but if they picked Turkey there would be very little the EU nations could do directly against it, though if this happened NATO would likely cease to exist but there is the potential that EU nations would be unable to do anything against it or face internal issues as a result. so in short, it's tricky but now with this treaty with France and Greece the sign points to some EU members giving direct military support if attacked, this could be the stepping stones for a more formal military alliance.

@sktt1488 I don't think that would work very well, they could try but if a nation wants to go to war the war often times happens, sanctions would be a reason not to go to war but most often people go to war when they think they can win and no one can stop them, if the USA is weakened or does not seem able or interested to engage then it's opinion does not matter, looking at the USA, I doubt they would act between Turkey and Greece, they did nothing when Russia annexed Ukraine.

@derinden15 sounds like denialism to me and it makes sense, why harm your national pride and pay reparations? That's what's holding Germany back so much these days. Also you forget the greeks that were killed as well.

@a.b.6233 it's more of a sign that France wants to signal to the rest of the EU that if they don't form some kind of united front the US and other players in the world are going to walk all over them, Macron and Merkel (as well as her replacement) will be very pro EU and might wish to push for EU federalization, stating this as well as the covid hysteria as reasons and motivations to do so. It's uncertain if it will work but simply having the language and situation around it could push for such an agenda.
