The switch on Harris by the party was not hypocrisy - she truly changed and blew away her reputation (so far.) The fact that they love her now is simply because she's earned it. It's ok to change your mind when the facts change.

Stealing defense secrets is not a game. Many people are spending decades in jail for that. Whether he intends to sell them or not, they're just laying around for anyone to take.
19
@stephenlight647 He wasn't trying to convince science-deniers. But he was very clear about his biggest goal is to get China, Russia, and India to skip oil technology and go straight to renewables rather than invest in old tech. No harm there.
9
@lomotil3370 lol - so you question Harris's accomplishments but don't care about Trump's criminality? What does that say about YOU?
8
Thank you for these interviews with foreign players. Its just such a treat to hear well-articulated and well-thought-out positions so far out of our own little box.
8
Ok, but what IS the republican policy agenda? Is it just catching more busses? (e.g., a national ban on abortions, a clawback of student loan forgiveness? What?)
8
Has appeasement EVER worked???
8
Wow. This interview with Kerry is nothing like the laughable way it's been portrayed on right-wing media.
7
Very well said. How do we get your voice in front of more people?
6
Excellent summary. Thanks!
6
@john1425 Who has actually said they will prosecute their political opponents and even call out the military on them? Not Harris.
5
Thanks! Great content. More metathinking, please.
5
I just love these updates, Ian. Thanks so much for caring enough to do this.
5
Would have been nice to discuss the actual dangers and not just monger fear.
5
Unfortunately I completely agree with Dalio about the change in American culture (I'm 65) and what it portends for our future. I'm afraid our 300 years of ascendancy is over and our decline has already started. Move over Rome and the British Empire, we're on our way to join the great states of yesteryear. Not that we failed so much as just outlived our time. I'm not willing to state the obvious about the ultimate virtues of democracy in a multi-cultural society over benevolent dictatorship, but draw your own conclusions.
5
How long before buyers' remorse sets in? Months? Years? Decades??? Will it happen in time to correct it?
5
Love me some Mayor Pete! He's still the most intellectually, ethically, and motivationally capable person on the scene to be president in the near future. I can't wait until he runs again with his new national accomplishments. My only advice for him would be to stop being so humble and not give all the credit to Biden.
4
I've been working in AI since the 80's, and I think the FUD has been way overplayed. I agree with Ian, the real danger is what people do with AI, not what AI "decides" to do on its own, as if it had a will of its own, which it doesn't.
4
Love me some Mayor Pete. If he's not president some day, there is nothing redeemable about American politics.
4
If it was just anyone but Trump, then Biden would still be in the running.
4
Nothing cold about it.

I never understood how raising unemployment was preferable to lowering the wage gap from the top or lowering corporate profits. Such an inhumane - and unhuman, policy. Don't raise unemployment to quash demand, raise taxes progressively so the pain goes where it can be tolerated or even ignored.
3
The warrant cited 3 laws, none of which required the documents to be classified - just government documents related to US defense. Repeat - the crimes being cited in the warrant did NOT depend on the documents being classified.
3
Totally agree with Jenkins - we are being much too forgiving with Saudi Arabia just to please big oil.
3
But are the new fabs being built in the US going to be next-generation or last-generation? Will Intel, NVidia, and AMD be able to use their chips in their top CPUs and GPUs or will TSMC still be the technology leader? Part of the reason TSMC stole all our 'chips' [so to speak] is simply because they are years ahead of anyone else in their ability to make the smallest, most energy efficient, and fastest circuits.
3
Mayor Pete! Perfect age.
3
@Hexanitrobenzene I get your point on Biden - but I don't think the "sudden" support for Harris is hypocrisy.
3
Like your new haircut. ;)
3
@stephenlight647 "He emits more carbon than an entire farming village in India" how much would that be, and over what time period? And how would you prefer he travel with his security entourage? Why is he "moral?" Has he ever made that claim or is anyone who is trying to help the planet somehow a fraud by your definitions? He specifically talked about focusing on lowering pollution in China and India despite your claims otherwise. Plus, people with hard science degrees are NOT getting the attention they deserve. Kerry is helping with that.
2
@professorakiba434 Uh, he actually said in the video that he already voted for Harris.
2
How can the US power only be military vs China's economic power, when we are the ones funding their growth through trade imbalance?
2
@labanyu China is not lending the US money - they are investing in government treasuries. It's their choice for the safest place to put cash with the best returns. It's a mutually-dependent relationship. Much of the goods we buy from China are actually made by American companies operating factories in China.
2
@ak203 What's scary? The consequences of having stupid electorates on both sides.
2
@valetudo1569 We would have had a tax raise on the richest if one DINO hadn't gotten bought out by wall street at the last minute. At least we got the 15% minimum corporate tax passed for billion-dollar companies. That was pre-negotiated and agreed to, by Biden, with the G7 so that corporations couldn't just relocate to avoid that tax. This is how the latest bill pays for itself and also reduces the deficit a bit.
2
Ian - what country has ever been this polarized and then came back together? Ever?
2
@lomotil3370 I think we never recovered our political unity after the civil war - just papered over it for a bit and now its back.
2
This is the type and quality of content that I subscribed for - thank you.
2
If Ukraine didn't order the car bombing... who did?
2
@TheAdrianFlo and that would just make it worse and give us even more immigrants.
2
What was the point of this video?
2
@hdaviator9181 If they just make chips suitable for IOT (refrigerator controls, dishwasher controls, automobiles, etc.) then that will do nothing to help our national security interests despite being the most widely used chips. If we don't provide actual state-of-the art fabrication plants, then our defense industry, our computer game industry, and our AI industry will still be held hostage to TSMC.
2
I was totally with Summers until the "buy cheap, not American." This attitude increases wealth inequality as the blue collar class is robbed of their chance to actually benefit from raising wages and gets us in a cycle of stagflation, and robs America of a chance to focus on increasing productivity to get prices down rather than trying to compete with low wages internationally.
2
@jeffkutlesa7315 We have different priorities and different interpretations of politics. Cheers.
2
I love the quick truth, no varnish. Thanks!
2
"News in 60 seconds" for a 3 minute video? But the rest must be accurate, right?
2
Come on - Brussel French Fries are great! (They invented them.)
2
Devil's advocate: Why should we trust news just because it's shared? Why shouldn't we see various perspectives and sort it out ourselves?
2
"Rights" are legal constructs about human behavior. They have nothing to do with nature.
1
@josiaaah_m As long as the "it's just a process" argument doesn't extend to scientific facts held by 99.9% of scientists in the same field.
1
Wow - what a bunch of twisted half-truths and deceptions! You should have called her out on the fake-facts about Biden and the border.
