First Ferrari makes an SUV now Lotus make a saloon and an SUV... this world is doomed.
319
That has been a fact since the early 2000s, cars became fat and heavy with big pillars, terrible shapes and lines...
137
because it's mad light, and that's how cars should be light with a good amount of horsepower, rather than heavy with tons of horsepower.
71
Yes cars have been getting too big and heavy since the early 2000s. A hatchback should weigh 900-1100kg A roadster should weigh 900-1200kg A mid-size sedan should weigh 1200-1400kg A wagon should weigh 1300-1600kg A CUV should weigh 1300-1600kg A SUV should NOT exist. And the size should be what the E46 is for mid-size sedans MAXIMUM, or 5th-6th gen Honda Civic for hatchbacks.
49
@sandrapickl915 My point is that if you need to add ballast to a car to give the other ones a chance to win, you've already won. And the point is that all cars are too heavy, even the BMW M340i. Anything over 1400kg for luxury sports sedan is too much.
46
The gtr has a slow and outdated gearbox.
44
All cars are.
31
not the point of the car if you ask me, I think it's got economy in mind.
29
I'm not old and I think that the color scheme is matching well... Only wish they'd use better wood if it's real at all in the first place.
27
that's bad.
26
@TheProboscisNose All of them should be lighter, they should be 1300-1400kg.
24
the sad reality we live in... and it likely weighs less too.
21
It doesn't matter if it's small if it weighs 1745kg.
19
The M2/M240i is the spiritual successor to to the M3 E46 CSL, I mean the M4 and new M3 are much bigger cars aren't they?
19
I'd say Mk6 is the best looking, then the Mk7
15
The overwhelming majority of people view driving as a chore and even more people don't know how to driver a rear-wheel driver car properly.
13
They have to pay environmental fees and taxes and all that other crap while putting stupid crap in their cars and manufacturing them in stupid ways to be environmental...
12
Imagine if they made a modern engine that is overengineered like the 2JZ, it'd be epic. But planned obsolescence it is.
11
88-03 is when cars looked the best, outside of their tail and headlights, those have improved.
11
The secret is strong, durable metal and not just metal, but a lot more metal than needed along with long term refinement of the same platform, design and architecture
10
@Mr Sir 0-100 is a pretty pointless metric though.
10
@jackbrian7083 it's not interesting when it costs a lot more, everybody can make fast expensive cars.
9
nothing is going to happen from 12V. It can't lower the resistance of the skin and body almost all, so current can't really pass through you.
9
@sandrapickl915 They should indeed make sedans be 1200-1300kg in general and more luxurious ones like these about 1300-1400kg, so BMW needs to lose weight too.
9
Cars have gotten too heavy... A sedan shouldn't exceed 1500kg, let alone 2000kg...
8
Well the supra engine is 35 years old, has 2.67 times fewer cylinders and less than half the engine displacement.
8
@dr.science_0177 Modern SUVs are worthless trucks. Super Useless Vehicles(SUV) as I say. They have no ground clearance(the only positive of old-school SUVs), while having all the down-sides: Weight, worse fuel economy, worse acceleration, worse cornering, and event though they have these big bodies, due to modern regulations they don't even have more space than a sedan inside...
8
@BeefIngot egh... significantly is a big exaggeration. Also as the old car enthusiast saying goes, if you don't want to die don't crash, if you are about to crash, crash hard.
8
@footballcoreano look at any other Lexus sedan and they are low 5 second to sub 5 second 0-60mph/0-100kmph cars.
7
@baysidelad1 The original Toyota Supras didn't have a Toyota Engine either. What now?
7
Oh no way, no way is break by wire reliable, especially with my history of electronic e-brakes. XD
6
@AnteFuerst it is a Peugeot. On the same platform as the 308.
6
@Mr Sir you never go 0-100... it's usually 0-50, or 50-90, or 90 to 140(or whatever you highway speed limit is), or 50-140. or 30-40 to 90-140 whem joining the lane Not once do you have to go 0 to 100. Maybe 0 to 140 if you are on a gas station on the highway.
6
I kinda want a simple cheap, A-B car that is cheap and you don't care if you thrash it.
6
Germans and their safety... Big respect to the Mustang for not being safe and fun. If I have a 850HP car, I'm ready to die in it, thank you very much.
5
SUV is a Super Useless Vehicle regardless.
5
@Titoygts Well why aren't they lighter too? Lightness is more important than horse power.
5
@_shreyash_anand Do they really? :O The highest I've seen(read about) is 820HP with stock engine parts.
4
Pegout and Citroen own them and they don't do sports cars as far as I'm aware.
4
@martinsvensson6884 have you seen the honda prelude from 1988, with 4-wheel/rear-wheel steering. The Nissan ZX300 and Mitsubishi GTO 3000 both decked out with a lot of tech, Acura/Honda NSX, Nissan Skyline R32-34 GTR, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo or Subaru Impreza WRX. The Mazda RX7. The Integra Type-R, Toyota MR2. All these cars were high-tech and affordable compared to many cars the managed to compete with that were outside their class and price range. And keep in mind the price and class of those cars, don't compare them to cars that costed 2-10x times more, compare them to cars of equal price. Though in Europe japanese cars were never very popular and have always been overpriced for some reason, but still.
4
No the Stinger is Kia's greatest Hit.
4
@Sandile4 No the flagship models matter the least. The cars that matter the most are the ones that are most likely to be bought by... well not average, but closer to average people.
4
A tie between the MK4 supra, Celica and GT86 IMO.
4
@carlosandleon nobody is talking about he 1970s, we are talking late 90s to early 2000s.
4
@Slotisfaction Indeed it is an amazing supra.
4
@sandrapickl915 no, making it heavier means it will look like blob, not badass.
4
10 000$ too expensive.
3
It's a sad world we live in. A world where Lotus and Ferrari make SUVs... what's next, McLaren?
3
Nope, I've always have and will be against touch screens.
3
@lemcakes32422 American and Japanese cars have gotten much more expensive too, way beyond inflation. IDK about Korean.
